What is the general function of ATP in
Metabolism is the sum of every single reaction carried out by enzymes in multi step pathways, that occurs in the body to maintain homeostasis. Metabolism can be broken down into two subdivisions - Catabolism and Anabolism. Whenever a chemical reaction occurs in the body, bonds are being broken or added to change one thing into another substance/structure.
Catabolism is the breakdown of substances to generate smaller molecules releasing energy. Example : synthesis of glycogen from glucose. Anabolism is synthesizing a molecule from smaller individual units as a building block requiring some form of energy (Biosynthetic pathways). Example : Glycolysis (breakdown to glucose to give pyruvate in aerobic respiration and lactate in anaerobic respiration).
