Brandy Donaldson IHP 330 Module 8 October 22, 2023
This course was a breath of fresh air! I enjoyed reviewing interesting topics that I thought had no relevance. Going over the differed disparities and their factors was very interesting to me. Learning how to calculate the ratio odds, incidence, mortality rate and prevalence of measuring disease. By being able to measure the disease of salmonella, it helped me understand the patterns and trends of epidemiology. There was a more particular module that caught my attention, and that was the different levels of prevention, I feel like that was most relevant to my everyday life situations that I may come across. I honestly think that more should be taught on the levels of prevention so that individuals are able to recognize the types of prevention that can be taken to lessen the chance of catching different diseases. Learning how diseases could be controlled by either primary or secondary level prevention was an eye opener as well. And that these diseases could be prevented without reaching the last level of tertiary prevention. The final project was a breeze for me, gaining the knowledge throughout the course, helped me in navigating my way through levels of prevention by researching, combining the data, and also analyzing it. I believe now that I understand the concept of epidemiology, I can use the expertise of the course and apply it to my everyday life professionally and personally. I believe that in the near future as a healthcare administrator, I will pertain my familiarity on measuring disease to support many different facilities and organizations on how to decrease disease, managing the impacts of an epidemic or pandemic outbreak.
