Odysseus, a hero? The mighty Odysseus is many, many things but he is no hero in my eyes. To homer and the other people of early Greece he probably was a hero. All the little kids probably looked up to him but now kids don't even know his name. A hero to me is supposed to save lives. The only life Odysseus saved was his own. In addition to saving lives a hero should be humble, Odysseus does not fit that description, his hubris is as big as the moon. Also if you ask me, yes a hero can commit crimes. Although they shouldn't commit them often only when it is absolutely necessary. Odysseus has stolen from people, raped women, and murdered people when it all could have been avoided. Then to top it all off Odysseus if unfaithful, untrustworthy, disrespectful, and greedy. Right after the Trojan War Odysseus and his fleet do not go straight home instead they take a detour and the get lost etc. Their first stop was the Cicones. At the Cicones Odysseus’ men got super comfortable and started to steal things and find women to have sex with. Odysseus didn't stop them. Then some of the girls got free of the men and went to tell the men of their island. So the men of the island came to fight and ultimately lost but not before slaughtering a ton of Odysseus’ men. After that Zeus becomes undoubtedly upset because Odysseus and his crew went against Greek culture, which was disrespecting the gods. Another time Odysseus has stolen for no reason and disrespected the gods, was with the cyclops
As a final point, being brave, strong, and making a quick decisions was many kinds of being a hero and that’s what Odysseus had that make him a hero. Odysseus with his men going through a lot of challenges but in the end he is the only one survived and alive. With this in mind, the epic poem showed us how big the difference between the people 3,000 years ago and people in this generation. The author shows in the epic poem how whimsical the world 3,000 years ago and how powerful the gods in their maturity.
In Greek literature of mythology, we have examined Odysseus. Students and scholars alike have held debates about Odysseus. The discussion is whether Odysseus was a true hero, as read in The Odyssey. There is abundant supportive evidence to verify all sides of the debate and opinions held about Odysseus. Odysseus had encompassed many qualities that I believe make him a hero. The qualities he embodied were mental strength, physical strength, and spiritual strength. I would like to advocate for why Odysseus was a hero.
In the Greek literature of mythology, we have examined Odysseus. Students and scholars alike debate whether Odysseus was a true hero, as read in The Odyssey. There is much supporting evidence to prove all sides of the debate and opinions held of Odysseus. It is of my opinion that Odysseus is a hero in his homeland, his family, the Greek people, and for us to learn from to this day. Odysseus had encompassed three many qualities that I believe made him a hero. He embodied, mental strength, physical strength, and spiritual strength. Ten years after the fall of Troy, Odysseus a great hero has yet to return to his home in Ithaca. It begins with Athena and Poseidon who helped the Greeks during the Trojan War. Athena turned against the Greeks and convinces Poseidon to do the same. The Greeks are hit by storms on the way home and many ships are destroyed and the fleet is scattered. The war and his distress at sea keep Odysseus away from Ithaca for twenty years.
In the story The Odyssey the main character Odysseus is not a true hero. A man with so much hatred and anger should not be someone to hold to a high prestige, or want to be. The needless killing and disrespect to other people 's wishes is not part of what a hero should be, or is to endanger the people that he is in charge of. This is why odysseus is not a true hero.
Some say in a way Odysseus is a hero, Because he stays faithful to his wife Penelope and children, he also tries to keep them safe. Odysseus has been travelling away from home to complete his missions and journies for almost twenty years, He keeps himself safe by thinking about wife and children at home waiting for him to reach home. Odysseus has the chance to live forever and live an eternal life and runs into it
across a nymph called Circe. Circe and Odysseus start to argue because Circe turns his men
Odysseus is a king of Ithaca who ruled the Kephallenians. Odysseus’ name usually means “to cause pain” or “to bear a grudge against.” Odysseus was the son of Laertes and Anticlea. Odysseus is also married to Penelope and has a son named Telemachus.
What makes a hero is determination, perseverance, and bravery to accomplish a goal. Odysseus embodied all of these traits in the epic The Odyssey written by Homer. Odysseus was the king of Ithaca and he left for the 10 year long Trojan war, leaving his whole kingdom behind to defeat the Trojans. After about 20 years he makes it home and takes back his kingdom.Throughout his journey he faced many perilous encounters. Odysseus is considered a hero worldwide.
Is Odysseus a hero? Well Odysseus can be a hero in some aspects but is not. Here are some reasons why the great Odysseus is not a hero. A hero does the best for all his people, when he did not thank the Greek God Poseidon. That was not a heroic, he should of thought of his crew and said thank you, even though the crew did not say thank you. His cockiness led to several deaths. If Odysseus would have been a real hero he would have put aside his cockiness and said thank you to the Greek God. A hero also never leaves anyone behind. Odysseus left his soldiers to die and fend for themselves in some situations he put himself first when he should of put his crew before himself.
A hero is someone who is always truthful, especially to people who are willing to risk their life for them. Additionally, heroes do their best to be faithful to loved ones. Because he was disloyal to his crew, and unfaithful to his wife on many occasions, Odysseus is not a hero.
Most people might consider Odysseus as a hero who saves the worlds and makes it a better place just like spiderman, batman or even superman but no in my opinion I don't think of him as any superhero. He's just a regular person like the rest of us and i'm going to tell you why I think this.
When you think of a hero do you think of someone that can fly or that can lift a bus full of people? That is not the answer to all cases of heros. Some heros are just normal people that go throughout their day working or cooking. Other heroes are written in Greek Mythology, or even more specific, the Odyssey. Odysseus is the main character in the Odyssey, and he is labeled as a “hero”. But is that true? Would a hero tie his men to the mass of a ship just because they did not follow the certain task they were given? I would think a hero would give graciousness to any and all of his men. I believe that this act that Odysseus put forth was a minor act of heroicness. This deed was not an act of all things heroic.
Another reason why Odysseus was a hero is because he tried to protect his men as much as possible. The men that he had would not listen all the time so he tried to do what was best for them. Sometimes, both the men and Odysseus would get in trouble for doing something they were not supposed to do but Odysseus tried to get them out of the place as fast as he could. Odysseus is a very protective person and he does not want anyone with him to get hurt. If they do, he tries to help them so they will get better as soon as possible. You can tell he is caring about his men and his wife the most throughout the whole story.
During the time Ancient Greece there was a author named Homer, he created a popular epic poem called the odyssey. In this poem the main character odysseus is considered a hero, but is he really? If he was real and in today's world would he be considered a hero? To do this we must use another fictional character, DC’s scarlet speedster Barry Allen, A.K.A The Flash. We’ll compare their greatest feats, motives, and ways to control certain situations to see if odysseus really is a hero homer made him to be.
