Academic integrity constitutes of an overall honesty in one’s work when presenting information to another person or, in this case, a professor for a written assignment. Dishonesty, especially in education, is not new. Nowadays it is easier for students to copy and paste their work off others on the web. However, technology has improved to identify when one is cheating with sites such as Turnitin or other online plagiarism checkers. These online checkers are available for free for students to copy and paste their work into the provided text box in order to check the authenticity of their writing. There are several types of plagiarism; non-cited sources, cited sources, intentional and self-plagiarism. In non-cited sources, one takes another’s work and turns it in exactly how it is, paraphrases different sources and puts them on one paper, paraphrases one source entirely or turns in an exact copy of their own work from a different class (Hamdan, 2012). In cited sources, one may cite correctly, but not include them in references, cited sources are not given with enough information to be a legitimate source or all writing is straight paraphrasing without original works incorporated (Hamdan, 2012). Plagiarism hurts us all, first, by hurting the original author, then by hurting the one that plagiarized. It is unfair to steal from the original author, who has spent a large amount of time writing the paper, book or article that someone else claims as their own. Plagiarism is not just limited to taking information from resources without citations. According to Theresa Ireton, an assistant professor of writing in Centralia College, Washington, there are also subcategories of plagiarism in writing, such as plagiarism of structure, authorship, and plagiarism of self [4]. It is considered a plagiarism of structure when an imitator is paraphrasing by having different word choices than the original content. Plagiarism of authorship constitutes buying and turning in duplicate copy of another person’s work without any modifications whatsoever. Plagiarism of self is when an individual tries to utilize previously completed work as a resubmission for a different assignment. Even though the previous assignment is fully original content from an individual, it still constitutes as cheating due to an unfair advantage.

Academic dishonesty is a current problem in our society. It occurs at each level of education. It summarizes all types of cheating in education system all over the world. Students, faculty, and staff of HBU are responsible to keep the Academic Integrity Policy. Its goal is to develop a moral attitude and to grow in Christian ideals. We should do all individual work alone, use our own knowledge when we do homework, follow all university rules. According to HBU Academic Integrity Policy, these acts of behavior are considered as a cheating: submitting the work or record of someone else as his own, copying another’s quiz, exam answers, or homework, cooperating with another student during an assessment, when a student uses, buys, sells, or otherwise shares for example parts of the exam. Students are breaking an academic integrity because they want to achieve higher scores without much effort. Unfortunately, breaking these rules may cause a lot of unpleasant consequences.
Generally, the term “plagiarism” refers to the academically dishonest practice of using another’s words or ideas as one’s own. It is also regarded as a serious offense. For example, someone commits the offense by copying and pasting materials or work, in whole or in part, written by another person without quoting appropriate reference credit.
