After taking the Values in Action (VIA) Inventory of Strengths, I realized that some of what I thought were my character strengths actually proved otherwise based on the survey taken. Although I am not surprised that my top character strength is honesty, it was interesting to learn my other top strengths. Taking the Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Leadership Self-Assessment introduced me to my social and self-intelligence. Using the KAB model, I was able to identify knowledge, attitude and behavior strengths for both self and social intelligence. The Values in Action Inventory of Strengths was designed to classify one’s character strengths and assess the strengths identified utilizing a self-reporting survey, Peterson and Seligman …show more content…
2000). After taking the EQ self-assessment, I was able to identify what my character strengths while also noticing areas that I can improve on to become a more effective teammate and/or leader. The assessment focused on the areas of self-awareness, empathy, self-confidence, motivation, self-control and social competency. Being aware of this is important for self-improvement. A leader should always look for ways to enhance their productivity and relationship with his or her employees and peers alike. The EQ assessment allows for this. The results of my strengths were not surprising. The assessment gave me the understanding that I am very self-aware, empathetic and motivated. It also determined that I could improve on my self-control and social competency. It is necessary for me to focus on this shortfall as it can cause conflict in a team environment. Being that an employer should lead by example, bettering this will become a priority. Working on self-improvement is a strength and is appreciated in any team. It shows knowledge of self and that you hold yourself accountable achieve the team’s goal. Leadership is a process which a person influences and inspires the thoughts, attitudes and behaviors of others by providing purpose, direction and motivation. Now that I have identified areas of
The two dimensions from my big five personality profile that were revealed to be strengths were Openness to Experience score and my Agreeableness Score. The personality dimension of Openness to experience includes “intellectual, imaginative, curiosity, and being broad-minded” as positive characteristics (Kinicki & Fugate, p.81). Additionally, creative thinking, and being independent, as well as not being a fan of routines would be included in the definition of this dimension. The personality dimension of Agreeableness definition includes characteristics such as being “trusting, good-natured, cooperative, as well as being softhearted” (Kinicki & Fugate, p.81). I would add caring and work well in a group as other strengths in this personality dimension.
The StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment was rather detailed; however, it was still surprising to see in just a few questions, an in-depth analysis of my personality could be created. Reading the result was rather interesting for the descriptive passages resonated with my view of my abilities and perception of myself. Each of the decided top five themes that were associated with the presence of my leadership skills held significant meaning to my understanding of the talents I possess. Seeing many of the topics and assets I felt were strong determinants of my successes throughout my school and professional life articulated into descriptive paragraphs, was rather enlightening.
For this project you will be completing the StrengthsQuest exercise and then compiling the information and findings comparing your personal strengths with your current job.
After completing the VIA online inventory and reviewing my results I was not very surprised by the outcome. Some of the strengths that were displayed through this inventory are traits I really pride myself on having. The three traits that are considered my biggest strengths are; 1. Fairness, 2. Judgment, and 3. Prudence. All three of these traits are very closely related and are things I see in myself. I am a very careful person (prudence), since I never want to get in trouble or do something I would regret, I believe that everyone should be treated the same no matter some discriminating factors they have (fairness), and I am always very strategic about examining situation and being sure to see all sides (judgment).
I have taken a number of personality tests and surveys throughout the years for one class or another. I’m usually not very impressed by the results because I rarely feel that they truly capture who I am. When I took the Strengths Finder 2.0 quiz I wasn’t expecting very much. I ended up being pleasantly surprised. I have never had a more accurate synopsis of how I operate and communicate as a person and a leader. My top five strengths according to Strengths Finder 2.0 include: Adaptability, Relator, Intellection, input, and restorative.
My core value from the strengths assessment was courage, as it reiterated in the face of opposition exercising perseverance, honesty and bravery (all in my top 5) will allow me to accomplish goals internally and externally within the company I choose to work for.
Research surrounding character strengths at work has expanded dramatically in the last decade. High profile employers and high ranking professionals such as managers, CEO’s and consultants are adapting the use of character strengths and character strength exercises to build on the skills of their staff within their companies. This improves the likelihood of meeting the ever increasing demand of their consumers in todays market. In addition, ensuring employees know how to adapt their best skills and character strengths into their work environment.
A – Character Strengths-Undertake the Values-in Action (VIA) Character Strengths survey and review your top five signature strengths. Write a brief narrative on each of the strengths which include the activities, actions and behaviours which demonstrates the application of these strengths. Mention the classification of each character strength according to the virtue classification (using the virtues sheet).
My 5 strengths are as followed: Integrity, Loving, Appreciation, Hope, Forgiveness. After completely the survey, I applied these five strengths to my daily life. I realized that being conscious of my strengths and using them for a good cause not only helped myself but I helped others as well. My integrity shined this past week when I was placed in a situation where I was placed in a position where I had to be brutally honest with a dear friend, regardless of the pain that it may have endured her. As in individual, I like to be spoken to with the truth and nothing less than that, as I will speak to someone with nothing but pure honesty. If I was in the wrong doing or if I was in the right mindset, I will be honest of my actions and sayings. I believe there is no reason to lie, a lie told is an ongoing fairytale that will never end. One lie told leads to a thousand others in order to justify one lie, when it could have all been prevented if you had just told the truth. That lesson, is what I learned recently, and I couldn’t be more grateful
Strengths. My high rating on question 1 of the assessment indicates that I am willing and interested in providing leadership to groups of people. Effective leaders influence followers and their followers influence them. The
The list of my top strengths identified by the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths includes Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence, which refers to one's ability to notice and appreciate beauty and excellence in every area of life, Creativity as a means of thinking in an innovative and productive way, Curiosity for the sake of exploring and discovering, and Gratitude for the good things that happen (Lopez, Pedrotti, & Snyder, 2015).
This are allowed me to reassess and identify strengths and weaknesses that I may or may not have. The strengths listed under INFJ-T are Creative, Insightful, Inspiring and Convincing, Decisive, Determined and Passionate, and Altruistic (AnonymousAdvocate). Of these strengths, I can personally identify with two at most. Knowing these strengths allows me to utilize them more thoroughly. For example, I have always been decisive, but I never considered it a strength.
They examined the results of the VIA questionnaires (Values In Action, an online survey that individuals can take to a ranking of their character strengths) filled by college students (n = 237). They found positive correlations between all character strengths and student success, defined by students’ satisfaction and grade point average (GPA). Particularly, the strengths of persistence, judgement, love of learning and prudence scored higher in relation to the GPA. Moreover, the classroom-based strengths program, Awesome Us, demonstrated positive correlations between strengths and wellbeing (Quinlan et al. 2015).
My character strengths were gained through what I felt was always right. I’ve always felt that giving someone a second chance was a big thing and that everyone deserved that. I try my best to make others happy over my own feelings because my own feelings never outweighed theirs.
The results of my VIA character survey were somewhat surprising to me. My top strength according to the survey was Humor, meaning that bringing a smile to other people is important to me. Being socially intelligent and my kindness followed this trait and came with little surprise. Having a top strength in social intelligence means that I am aware of the motives and feelings of others. While being kind is basically the act of caring for people and wanting to help individuals.
