Service Request SR-rm-022, Part 1 Riordan Manufacturing Key Stakeholders There are several stakeholders at Riordan Manufacturing to gather requirements from to provide a clear picture of the final project. The first stakeholder to gain input would come from the Chief Operations Officer, he was the requestor of the system upgrade, is responsible for the budget, which includes payroll. The Chief Legal Officer oversees the legal aspects of the human resources programs. The individual human resources managers within the individual facilities are the stakeholders who recruit and handle benefits for employees. Each facility has an accountant that oversees payroll and bonuses as well as the payroll specialist (Apollo, 2011). …show more content…
Another option managers have to improve interaction is the care in assignment of members to the project team. The selection of stakeholders and IT personnel with personal interest in the new system improves the chances for success (Havelka and Lee, April 25, 2002). Another factor to ensure success is to train the IT personnel on the system’s applications and processes. How well the IT personnel understand the systems is extremely relevant to the success of system implementation. The involvement of IT personnel, who have knowledge regarding the application requirements, increases the ability of the team to correctly and quickly specify the requirements. Experienced IT personnel on a team help ensure others understand terminology and have more of an understanding of the stakeholders needs (Havelka and Lee, April 25, 2002). Project scope and Why it is Important Project scope defines the goals of the project and the budget of both time and money that has been allocated to achieve the objectives. For the best results to be achieved, both the definition and the allocated budget must be precise and detailed. A good process scope document will define specifically the tasks to be completed or the delivered results. The project scope is important because it will define the specific date for which the deliverables
The concept of project scope may be one of the most ample in project management. It involves objectives, limits and intentions. Every requirement in a project as well as its characteristics must be dealt with when planning the scope. Even though it 's reasonable to say that every project is unique, the causes for which it fails are generally the same. And if you already know what these causes are, you can minimize the likelihood of problems being repeated and thus increase the chance of success.

Another way of successfully gathering information is by building a prototype or model of the system, so that users can test or get an idea of what the finished product will be like. With this they can determine issues, problems, or inconsistency with the system. Another important part of gathering information is organizing it so that it can be understood and put to proper use. I propose categorizing the requirements into functional requirements, operational requirements, technical requirements, and transitional requirements. The functional requirements define how the user thinks the system is functioning overall, the operational requirements define what background processes need to be executed in order for the system to work optimally over a period of time, the technical requirements define what technical issues that must be addressed in order to successfully implement the system, and the transitional requirements define the processes or steps needed to implement the system smoothly and successfully. ("Mind Tools", 2012).
When the PM is developing the project scope, he/she be aware that the project’s scope come from many sources; stakeholders, the entire team contributing ideas, SME’s giving their concepts, among others. It’s not the PM entire responsibility and he/she must involve all the players when is appropriate. When every single person directly related with the project collaborate to build the project scope, the PM could frame an accurate scope statement describing items that will be included and those that won’t be included in the project.
Scope is nothing but which refers to project boundaries where it determines what work will be completed during the project lifecycle. This even includes identifying the work which would not be included in the current round of product or service development. A scope in a project is nothing but the proper planning which is made for the project which involves in determining and even documenting a list of specific project goals, deliverables, tasks and deadlines. The documentation which is made for the scope of the project clearly explains the boundaries of a project and also establishes the responsibilities for each team member and sets up procedures for how much the completed work will be verified and approved. The scope of the project which is made helps the project team remained focused on the given task. The scope statement also provides the project team leader or the facilitator with guidelines for making decisions about the change of request which are being made during the implementation of the project. it would be better if the project has a proper scope at the beginning or initial stages itself as it is quite natural for large projects to their parts along the way. when documenting the scope of a project the stake holders should be very specific regarding their work as one or more parts of a project ends up requiring more work, time, effort because of poor planning or miscommunication Effective scope management requires good communication in order to
Defining the project scope sets the stage for developing a plan and its primary purpose is to define as clearly as possible the deliverables and to focus project plans (Gray & Larson, 2006). The team has

Prior to the onset of modern project management, the success criteria of a project lay solely on the technical success, or scope of the resulting product or service. Today, adherence to budget and schedule form a triangle of success factors alongside scope, with client satisfaction also developing as a key determinant of project success (Kerzner, 2004). However, the delivery of project scope will always take precedence over all other project factors, because if a project fails to deliver on its original intention, need or functionality, the project will always be considered as a failure. This essay will analyse the adequacy of the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge’s (PMBOK) definition of Project Scope Management in relation
A comprehensive project scope analysis serves several benefits that permit a company to guide the dream of a project to a successful completion. One benefit is transforming the idea of the project into a working concept. Once the concept is developed, project details can be mapped out. Scope analysis outlines each step of the project in a detailed manner. The primary benefit to this is it aligns the project so that the final product will be consisted with the original goals/objectives. By outlining each step, scope analysis increases the likelihood that the project will stay within budget and time constraints as well as meet predetermined specifications and quality parameters.
In house IT personnel, with an established understanding of the company’s culture, can better analyze the company’s needs and ensure that key business functions are not overlooked in the planning and analysis phases of a new system design. Also, for troubleshooting and helpdesk functions, long term employees will likely have an historical perspective of the systems and knowledge of previous issues making them more knowledgeable and better able to respond.
