A chemical reaction is a “chemical change that occur when chemical bonds between atoms are formed or broken.” The substance that goes into a chemical reaction is the reactant, and the substances produced produced at the end of the reaction are known as products. Chemical reactions are all around us constantly occurring, anything from a candle burning to the rusting on a fence are examples of a chemical reaction. Chemical reactions can be noticed by Chemical Change some example of chemical change are change in temperature, change in color, bubbles, precipitate, light, and odor.

To more easily predict the outcome of chemical reactions a basic system of classification was put in place for chemical reactions. The system categorized the reactions into five different groups Synthesis, Decomposition, Single-Replacement Reaction, Double-Replacement, and Combustion reactions.

Your body lives and grows because of chemical reactions, whether by taking medicine or even a breath. A chemical reaction is defined as the process that involves rearrangement of the ionic structure of a substance. A reaction rate is how fast or slow a reaction takes place. Chemicals that proceed quickly have a fast reaction rate, whereas slowly proceeding chemicals have a slow reaction rate. There are many ways to increase the reaction rate of chemicals, for example temperature. If the temperature of the substance is increased, the particles would have higher kinetic energy resulting in more & more collisions. A greater proportion of collisions results in a reaction. Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid are the two chemicals investigated throughout. Magnesium is an important supplement in the human body as well as its uses in many lightweight products such as car seats, luggage as well as fireworks and sparklers. Hydrochloric Acid can be found in the human body as a digestive acid.

3. The “new” substances that were formed as a result of chemical change were many. When I took the candle and lit it, it burnt and formed smoke. When I took the wooden split and lit the paper on fire, the color around the green paper changed to be brown, burnt and changed into ashes. Also, I poured Hydrochloric acid and magnesium ribbon in a test tube and it started bubbling and it heated up in the bottom.

In science a few days ago we made chemical rockets. That reacted with vinegar and baking soda. The chemical property that we invested was the chemical property of reactivity. We put 10mL of vinegar in the 30mL film canister. It made a couple of changes it fizzled, it raised, and made a pop sound when it exploded. Both single and double displacement reactions can be broken down into more specific reactions. Single displacement reactions can be classified as metal displacement, which is cation; and halogen displacement, which is anion. Double displacement reactions will break into three different situations: formation of a gas, formation of a solid (precipitate), and neutralization.
