In the story and film “To Build a Fire” written by Jack London and directed by David Cobham the man and dog have very different thoughts throughout the story but they both need each other to survive. For example in the film when the man tries to kill the dog, the dog thinks the man wants to play. Also the man is very cold and his imagination is getting the best of him and he is feeling that it is colder than it really is, but the dog knows what to do in this weather condition. The film and the story have very different parts on how the man and the dog thought.

The main theme of both the poem and movie is never give up.so the reason I say never give up is because in the poem invictus it started off by saying out of the night that covers me which means like its dark outside and then it said beyond my wrath and tears so what it is saying is really never give up on life. And in the movie evolution of a criminal it started off my showing him going to jail, and threw out life he was sorry for what he had did.

Some similarities in the book are, Mason had to sell his horse and also tex’s horse because they needed the money for groceries. Tex had to go to the hospital because he got shot when he went to Lem’s friends house. Lem’s friend shot Tex in the hand because Tex was trying to leave. One more similarity was that Mason and Tex were on t.v. They were on t.v because they picked up a hitchhiker, and the hitchhiker had a gun and was trying to shoot mason. If Tex did not take the hitchhiker where he wanted to go then he was going to shoot Mason.

This book represents her sense of loss from an outsider’s perspective. If you look at a couple of books later, The Shoulder Shrug, this book represents Liesel taking a stand against Hitler no matter how small, this is shown in this quote where Liesel is starting to piece things together “The word communist + a large bonfire + a collection of dead letters + the suffering of her mother + the death of her brother = the Führer” (Zusak 115). She is taking back from Hitler, in the only way she knows how, stealing books, and standing up for what she believes in.

Although the book had a very mature storyline and theme, the movie, on the other hand made it seem like it was a children’s movie with all the unnecessary cute and funny scenes of the baby farm animals even though it was far from being a children’s story - it contained adult themes, alcohol abuse, executions, and violent battles. It was more than your average cartoon. Plus, most of the dialogue in the book was replaced by narration in the movie which reduced immensely the depth of personality of the animals. Not enough to ruin the movie, the endings between the novel and the film had quite a contrast. In the book, the story ended with a classic scene and a chilling line which grabbed the readers until the end.
