TASK 9 REPORT ON BEHAVIOUR –policies and assessment explation Behaviour can often be linked to age and stage as well as environment. Other factors that can influence behaviour are overall development, self-image, changes in personal life, new school, media and peer groups. For instance , with a young baby you might get signs of ‘separation anxiety’ . With a two year old, their might be ‘toddler frustration’ and with school aged children , strong attitudes and opinions. • I will help children maintain their self-esteem by showing I disapprove of their bad behaviour not the child themselves. If I have concerns about a child’s behaviour which are not being resolved, I will ask for permission from the parents to talk it through with another childcare professional. I may contact the National Childminding Association, the NSPCC, health visitor or the local early years team (or other relevant advice service) for confidential advice. Concerns that could identify a particular child are kept confidential and only shared with people who need to know this information. I encourage appropriate behaviour by: • Setting a good example, I aim to be a positive role model as children copy what they see. Children learn values and behaviour from adults. • I readily praise, approve and reward wanted behaviour, such as sharing, to encourage it to be repeated. Using praise helps to show that I value the child and it helps to build their self-esteem. • I praise children to their parents and other people when they have behaved as expected. • I try to be consistent when saying “no” and explain reasons why it is not appropriate and considered unwanted behaviour. • My expectations are flexible and realistic and are adjusted to the age, level of understanding, maturity and stage of development of the child. • I try to involving children in setting and agreeing house rules.
If individuals insist on doing something that you disagree with, you can only advise and encourage them. You cannot force them to do anything.
❖ Praise versus Criticism. Using praise over negative language is more effective because it models what constitutes good behaviour. For example if a pupils actions are inappropriate – try to highlight good behaviour by praising their neighbours.
I have to create a positive relationship with children and young people by encouraging two -way conversations -both listening and responding to build their confidence.
Having a good role models presented to them in childhood will help them understand how to be effective communicators in their future lives and build positive relationships of their own. Building on good communication will strengthen your relationship with them resulting in better trust and confidence to participate in learning activities
Child care professionals have a moral and legal obligation to ensure that care environment created for children is safe and free from harm. In the case of suspected abuse of a child you will need to provide evidence to support your claim so you will need to gather observations on the child's behaviour at different times throughout the day, record and provide detailed conversations you have had with the child on possible abuse claims. I would also take photos of any signs of physical abuse and provide details on the family background/situation if known, this will ensure that when making a claim I have the necessary facts to support the case. Developing a child protection policy aids in identifying a uniform code of conduct for all stakeholders,
Q1 Child abuse would be one of many possible explanations at this point. In addition to the indicators mentioned above, describe at least four physical signs and four behavioural signs that you might look for if you still thought that child abuse was a possibility. (P1)
I show them that they are safe and free to express themselves. We praise one another for effort. We give chances until success is achieved.
What are the patterns and characteristics you would look for while screening a potential abused or neglected child?
An adult needs to: Praise and encourage the child between ages five and eight. This is required so children do not look for other ways of gaining attention. Praise is needed as children become more aware of others and compare themselves critically.
Go missing from home, involved in abusive relationships, associate with others in sexual exploitation, involved in gangs, have older partners, involved in petty crimes, change in physical appearance
I have collated evidence which describes the role of the practitioner in meeting the children’s care needs. The evidence can be found in my appendix. It’s reasonable, as parental figures, to want the best for your children. You’re trying to keep your child from pain and struggle, and you think being raised in a world of happiness and smiles will keep them happy and smiling. Everyone wants the best for their child: happiness, companionship, success, etc. And for you, praise and reward might be part of the package.
Answer: That one is easy too…………...it’s when people outside of our family come up to me and compliment me on what respectful, personable and good kids I have.
It is a guiding children’s behavior in positive ways. All the things you do and say to help children learn and demonstrate acceptable behavior. In a child care center staffs use appropriate techniques to guide children to perceive, manage and think about their practices and express their feelings in positive, non-threatening and gainful ways. All children will be upheld to learn and create in a safe and enabling environment and significance of appreciation and respect for the child, recognizing and tolerating youngsters' emotions and encouraging these feelings to be
Such as, if you are talking down about someone then the child will also have the same attitude and will most likely repeat what you say. One way to set a good example by modeling is simply by having an optimistic outlook and not saying or doing negative things such as, talking in an inappropriate manner, ignoring the children, and, acting like the children don’t matter. Some things that I have done while modeling my actions is thinking to myself “Would I be happy if one of my kids acted this way?” if the answer is no then I find a different way to handle the situation or way of acting. Also, It’s good to make the child feel like they matter, with that said, I do a lot of praises such as high fives and stickers. Also, I always get down to the child’s level when we are talking. Not only does this make the child feel like you care but also allows you to connect with the child and talk things over, or problem solve. In addition, I learned the importance of observing. For example, in order to understand how the child is developing it is extremely important to
