Do you consider yourself a leader or a great leader? Some leaders lack the ability to delegate responsibilities to subordinates, resulting in the leader becoming overwhelmed and inefficient. A great leader recognizes their limitations and values the skills possessed by his or her team. When making decisions the final outcome will rely heavily on the leader’s willingness to consider outside concerns and suggestions. An exemplary leader effective, efficient, and focused. Leaders who are effective are able to accomplish the task at hand; however, some leaders lack this skill and rarely are able to solve problems. An effective leader will evaluate the task and come up with a solution that is satisfactory to both parties. For example, an effective military leader will not rush into enemy territory lacking reconnaissance. Before leading soldiers into harm’s way they are going to determine if their mission is attainable. Once this determination is made they will then assemble the appropriate troops and weaponry to …show more content…
A lead surgeon can not be distracted while performing a craniotomy. A procedure of this magnitude requires full attention to detail. The slightest distraction could result in decreased quality of life. A lead airline technician must possess the ability to stay focused and on task. His or her leadership abilities must remain on track in order to prevent catastrophic damage by one of his crew members. The effectiveness of his crew reflects his or her ability to stay focused. A financial leader must remain focused on what is going on in the variable markets. The value of stocks are ever changing and a lack of focus could prove costly for one of his or her clientele. His ability to focus on funds will allow him to make the appropriate changes to a client’s portfolio based upon their needs analysis. Inability to focus could be costly, both monetarily and
Leadership comes in different forms and an effective leader will use their power conservatively and strive to share their power with other group members. Leaders should strive to enhance work ethic and abilities of those around them. They should have high expectations and set challenging goals for those on their teams. It is crucial for a leader to create a positive
Great leaders generally have to lead more than one person. They have a group or team that needs to collaborate and cooperate in order to get the work done, and this means that the leader needs to be adept at
An effective leader is one who inspires many to not only accept change but to cause change themselves, furthermore, though leaders can be effective it doesn’t always mean they are responsible with their power.
Good Leaders play an important role in our society, and it is a quality than needs to be developed thorough an entire life. There are many different leadership styles, as well as there are many good leader examples. A successful leader knows exactly how to effectively manage the group , in order to work towards the realization of a common goal.
Being a significant leader is additional than just leading a group. An effective leader is brave, honest, smart, wise, mature, and caring. A worthy leader must step forward when guidance is needed. They must think logically and perform what’s best for them and their people. Leaders should be open minded to fresh ideas. Superiors also need to listen to their people and understand the issues that need to be addressed.
Leaders tend to think about” Why.” and not “How.” this is an important lesson I learned from reading the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Good leaders are focused, they care for the total well-being of their group, and make decisions based on the group. As well as, taking charge when no one else wants too or can. The novel shows these qualities throughout its chapters with one of its main characters, Ralph.
Throughout my short life, I have come to realize that a leader does not necessarily, although they may, maintain a defined position of leadership. A leader is one who will rise to the challenge even when the odds in opposition. A leader will tackle any barrier that stands in the way of the goal. A leader is willing to be hated and face criticism for doing what is right. Leaders come in all different forms, but a leader is the one who is always willing to make the difficult decisions.
A great man once said, “success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts,” Winston Churchill. Great leaders have existed since the begin of time. A leader is someone who takes charge and looks for the better of everyone.
When I think of a successful leader, I think of one who has faced certain adversities throughout his/her life and through the application of what they have learned and the skills that they were taught, were able to conquer those misfortunes and proceed.
Leadership is defined as the process in which an individual influences the group of individuals to attain a common goal. The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and cohesive behavior. A leader infuses a sense of positivity and directs others to reach the specified goal. Some would say military leaders are made, or just got well trained to be a leader. I feel there are born leaders and some who are given the position to be a leader. Their qualities I think you should posses to be a great leader, such as: Ability to learn on the job, share credit for success, can control emotions, has ability to communicate goal and vision, and most important integrity. With these skills you have the keys to become a great leader like Abraham Lincoln, John
It is important that leaders exhibit traits that will not hinder our military’s ability to combat irregular threats on the battlefield. Battlefields of today do not consist of two or more armies massing their forces against one another in an attempt to destroy the opposition. In today’s battlefield, leaders must exhibit three prominent leadership traits: judgement, integrity, and knowledge to combat irregular threats. Incidents in past conflicts such as the Abu Ghraib incident in Iraq and the My Lai massacre in Vietnam; have shown a lack of leaders judgement, integrity, and knowledge and have led to an increased insurgency against allied forces.
Anyone has the potential to be a leader, but it takes a strong and willing person to be a great leader. First and foremost a leader must be willing to take responsibility, for he’s own action and the action of others, and be willing to step up to the plate at all times. He must be willing to listen at time, for advice from those who he leads.
History shows us that there has been good leaders, and that there has been bad leaders. However, each type of leader has kept things together whether for the good of the people or just for themselves. What sets a leader a part is how well they lead their people. Leading by example is always the best way to go. If a leader shows integrity, honesty, and ethics it makes their followers want to display the same behavior. There are several different types of leadership theories to use when leading, but I have chosen three to focus on. The three I have chosen to focus on are: Contingency Theories, Situational Theories, and The Great Man Theories.
Many people are born “natural” leaders, but no one starts out as a great leader. One must sharpen and develop the skills needed to be a quality leader. One skill a leader must have is the ability to learn new things quickly. If someone can adapt to a changing situation and catch on to new tasks in a short amount of time, that person will be able to react more quickly and learn more in a short amount of time. Another quality a leader must have is empathy. A good leader needs to be able to put themselves in their subordinate’s shoes and understand what that person might be going through. If a leader cannot relate to those below him or her, they will never gain trust and will not be able to effectively lead. Another major skill a leader must have to be effective is communication. If an officer cannot effectively relay information from his commander down to his soldiers, then the mission will fail and lives could be lost. One last skill that I believe is necessary to be an effective leader is the ability to be aware of one’s strengths and weaknesses. If an officer can recognize a soldier’s weak points and strong points, then together, they can develop a plan to increase the weak points and strive to maintain the areas where the soldier is stronger. While there are many more skills and qualities to being an effective leader, I believe that the ones listed above are some of the more important ones. The style of leadership portrayed by a leader is directly correlated to the morale and behavior of his or her
I can relate to your experience with an ineffective military leader in a field where there is little margin for error. However, I cannot offer any insight from my experience on how to approach your senior leader as when I was in the military that was not something that I attempted. I would like to offer that there may be some coping methods for you to consider in the meantime, or if this meeting with your senior leader does not lead you to your desired outcome.
