Getting the Wrong Message Across Today in the United States of America, there are many different people from many different ethnic backgrounds. The Black Lives Matters movement is stirring up racial separation, rather than promoting reasonable solutions. Their dishonest anti-police views are causing police everywhere to second guess themselves. While in dangerous tactical situations, officers are now taking into consideration, the race of the offender, and what might be implied or taken out of context, if the offender is African American. “Most of the people who now live in terror because local police are too intimidated to do their jobs are black” (Martin, Jonathan). Furthermore, it also causes a danger to society by slowing officer’s reaction time. It puts law enforcement officers in a very tough spot, if they act to quickly they could be labeled a racist and face lawsuits, or even loss of job. However, if they don’t act, they could be harmed or even civilians around them. Also, The Black Lives Matter Movement is causing discrimination, hate, violence, and riots. Which are similar to the ones we have seen in the past with Ferguson and Baltimore, destruction took over the entire town. “Baltimore has had over 200 murders this year and almost all young black men” (K., D). Assata Shakur, who’s also known as …show more content…
Also, a desire to be seen equally by police officers who they feel do not look at them the same as white people. Although, the Black Lives Matter movement has every right to stand up against brutal treatment from police officers, who have abused their powers and may be racist, but not all police officers are bad and abuse their powers. Many officers don’t care what color the skin is they are there to do their jobs, to serve and protect. “Criticizing institutions such as the police, the courts and the prison system is one thing; turning them into the enemy is quite another” (K.,
One of the the most controversial topics of discussion in our nation is the Black Lives Matter movement. This movement has sparked up immensely because of the President in office right now, Donald Trump, and many events transpiring around the nation. The country is at separation between the people who think that Black Lives Matter is a real issue and the people who think it is not. Without a doubt, people need to be considered equally, no matter what is said at the end of the day. America was founded on the idea that every man that walks on the soil will have just as equal opportunities as the next, no matter the race. Three essential reasons people are determined to fight for this cause is to end job discrimination, stop police brutality, and gain equal rights within society.
Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi created a movement centered towards black Americans which later turned into Black Live Matter. Those three leaders came together in 2013 after the Trayvon Martin case that devastated the black community. Black Live Matter, also known as BLM, became an organization that has a mission to give power and a voice to violence inflicted on Black communities. So many black injustices went unnoticed and ignored, but this group will not stand to let that happen again. Injustice to the black community is what causes so many protests and movements that make the Black Lives Matter organization stronger than ever. .
Subsequent police shootings of unarmed black locals in New York, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles propelled the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
Suspicion that a black person will always have the wrong intention and have a malicious plan when walking around a neighborhood, or whatever the case might be, is unjust and based on prejudice. As more of our black sisters and black brother’s lives are being taken away, the public begins to take this issue more seriously attemting to prevent from any more lives to be taken away by the police force, which is meant to keep us out of harm’s way and make us feel safe. Black lives matter is no longer maintained as a popular hashtag in the media, but it comes to live as a movement. Police brutality creates a black lives matter movement where our society unites to protest, regardless of economic status, religion, race, or sex.
Black Lives Matter is a rather recent movement that has developed in the United States as a result of the African American community claiming that police officers target and shoot African Americans due to their race. Their aim is to raise awareness of claimed police brutality against African Americans and hopefully increase restrictions on the police forces by taking away the right to defend themselves if they, the policemen, feel endangered.
In recent years, America has experienced a surge of a new movement which encapsulates the concerns of its minority groups and youth. A prominent issue in American society is the treatment of African-Americans, and how they have become increasingly criminalized and targeted. The Black Lives Matter Movement sprung from the increasing mistreatment of black people by police, i.e. the homicides of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Michael Brown. Black activists have created the movement and offered their own perspectives of what the movement means to them and the implications it has on American society.
As a result, other organizations such as Blue Lives Matters, and All Lives Matters erupted too. The Blue Lives Matters Movement was created to protect police officers and their families. The All Lives Matters Movement was established to ensure that all lives matter and not just black lives. The argument between Black Lives Matter or All Lives Matter has been a heated discussion on social media for some time now. Indeed, all lives do matter, but the number of blacks killed from in the past five years says otherwise. Black Americans have a different experience than other races in the United States. Even though today, everyone in American are “supposedly” given the same opportunity to prosper, some hurdles are put into place for black Americans than any other race in the United States. Black Americans are more likely to get stopped by police than white Americans. Such acts as buying a house, car, or applying for a job position may be more difficult for an African American with the same credentials as a white American. People who do not understand how the Black Lives Matter Movement is an establishment to help aid the oppression of blacks without belittling other races are like that because they do not experience the “black experience” in America. Not to say that white people aren’t killed by policemen, but white Americans aren’t targeted by policemen. During the mass shooting of the church in Charleston, South Carolina committed by Dylann Roof, for example, he was labeled as “mentally ill”. When the shooting of the Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut happened, the shooter was also labeled as “mentally ill”. When blacks are killed wrongfully, usually a picture of an old mugshot appears as the cover face. Surveillances and voice recordings of murders of unarmed blacks on national television are displayed. Officers involved in such cases received little
Aside from the history concerning the development of the Black Lives Matter Movement, this issue impacts people of varying identities differently. The first group of people I would like to examine is black women. Black women often believe the Black Lives Matter Movement is very male-centered. A number of women such as Yvette Smith, Tyisha Miller, Miriam Carey, and many others have been victims of police brutality. When these women were brutalized or even killed, their names weren’t raised, and they didn’t garner much attention. This conveys the idea that black males’ lives are more important than black females’ lives. This brings about the issue of solidarity; feminism and black lives matter both are matters at hand here. Women are battling to achieve equal social, economic, and personal rights as men. Black women are fighting for the both their feminine rights and human rights. In light of the added burden, black women have had a huge influence on the Black Lives Matter Movement. In fact, three black women created the Black Lives Matter Movement; Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi, and Patrisse Cullors are the creators of the movement. They started it on twitter with the #BLM, which catapulted it into a nationwide movement. They created this rallying cry to connect and inspire people to make change. They brought attention to the issue at hand through this rallying cry. On top of the aforementioned, black women are often on the front line in support of their brothers, husbands, and
When you turn on the news and are on social media you have probably seen noble things about Black Lives Matter and may have also seen corrupt things about Black Lives Matter, but the real question is who are they, what do they stand for, and are they as violent as the media portrays them to be? What started as a hashtag to end the oppression and killing of African-Americans has now turned into a vast movement that has activist all over the world calling to stop the problem of African-Americans being killed by police. Black Lives Matter is nothing more than a movement that wants to end the social injustices that African-Americans endure and to do that they go out and protest to try and get their point across but because of the news, social media, and people shouting, “Black Lives Matter” but violently protesting and starting riots, Black Lives Matter gets a debauched reputation for that and it isn’t their fault.
Black Lives Matter is formed by people who think the African-American are treated unfairly. The founders of Black Lives Matter are Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullers. Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement which originated in the United States. This activist movement is happening because the blacks are treated so poorly by the Caucasian polices in many different types of situations. A situation such as, if a Caucasian person robs something, they will be arrested calmly or slight harm. In comparison to a black person they would possibly be surrounded by a group of police or physically harmed. There are many people who are protesting fo those who were not served justice. Killers (mostly
There is a problem stirring about in America right now: discrimination against black people. Even though the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s was long ago, racism still seems to seep into American culture. Recently, many black people who were unarmed, have been slain by police officers all throughout the country. Some were either committing petty crimes such as Eric Garner, and some did not even commit any crimes whatsoever, like Freddie Gray. From these tragedies, rises a movement that has started protesting against the events that have been unfolding recently, and that movement is known by Black Lives Matter. The movement has since then become infamous for their ethics and the way they handle

Everywhere on the media, African Americans are losing their lives seemingly due to the complexion of their skin. And each time, it seems unjust verdicts are placed on the police officers responsible for the turmoil. In response to these killings and verdicts, the Black Lives Matter movement rallies in opposition. Though they opt for justice, the Black Lives Matter movement is ineffective because its approach is too aggressive. (Barbara Reynolds, “I Was a Civil Rights Activist in the 1960’s, but it’s Hard for Me to get Behind Black Lives Matter.”)
Everyone across the globe has heard of the Black Lives Matter Movement. This movement wasn’t created to put down any other races. It was to show the government that Blacks will not stay silent while the police are gunning down innocent people. This movement has gained allies and enemies. The allies have done so much to keep this going. The enemies has done nothing but become the very thing we are taking a stand against. People must understand that this movement is too bring notice to what's been going on on and off camera. “See, “Black Lives Matter“ is trying to highlight that there is demonstrable evidence that black lives matter less than white lives to the criminal justice system (and the American government
The Black Lives Matter movement has swept across America. It 's branched out with chapters in over 31 cities and held rallies and boycotts across the United States(Sidner). The Black Lives Matter movement started with the outrage of the death of a young man. It continues to take over headlines and raise awareness on police brutality and inequality. However, the movement has met resistance from the All Lives Matter group. This group thinks that Black Lives Matter is a movement to express hatred towards other races. However, statistics, the views of fellow citizens, and the overall purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement, can prove that the movement wasn 't meant to express hate on other races and that we need to support the movement instead of going against it.
