The Hero’s Journey What is the true definition of a hero? Well it’s definitely not always as great as stopping a bomb, or stopping a psychotic villain, it can simply be finishing chores.. I myself can be described as a hero, because I moved, overcame my shyness, and now got many great friends and I don’t live in a sketchy area anymore. See, the story doesn’t necessarily need to be as great as Batman stopping the Joker, it simply has to be defeating a conflict. My (Great Great) Aunt Ferol has always stayed fairly social with my family, and unlike my Great Grandma she actually accepted my family. She was diagnosed with cancer when she was around 65 years old. She and the family was upset, but knew she was probably going to survive. Aunt Ferol …show more content…
However when my Grandma was 15 her parents divorced and her mother got full custody of her. My great grandmother eventually grew depressed, this affected my grandmother’s attitude and all her siblings attitudes too, so the fighting grew worse. Soon my grandmother was noticed by a few girls and they let her hang out with them. Her attitude grew more positive and she knew this is the effect she wanted to rub off on other people growing up with the same problems. My grandmother is now the most successful sibling (she tried helping her siblings but being as she was the youngest, they didn’t want to listen to her), and unfortunately due to my great grandmother being so depressed she stopped taking care of herself and grow deathly sick as a result, she died when I was eight years old. My grandmother’s siblings still are vain and quite rude to my grandma. A hero is a person who went through conflict. There are many parts of the hero’s journey and they are all shown in nearly every hero story. Not all heroes are the same but they all have something in common, that is the Hero’s Journey. One thing you can learn from all these heroes is don’t ever give up, because even if you fail in the end you can at least say you gave it your
The definition of a hero is someone that has distinct qualities like courage. Someone that is admired for his or her brave actions and sacrifices. Someone who puts the wants and needs of others before his or her own. The definition of a hero for me is my father, Charles Edward Johnson Jr. He often has much on his plate, but still finds a way to be a true father to my brother and me. My dad demonstrates all the qualities of a hero and then some.
My great-grandmother was the matriarch of my family. When I was in seventh grade, around thirteen years old, she passed away due to breast cancer. This misfortune created an extremely difficult time for me because, not only was I adjusting to the environment of junior high, but many other issues were occurring in my life; this was the third death that I was having to deal with. Unfortunately, one of the previous deaths (that I was still trying to hurdle through and come to terms with), had occurred almost exactly a year before the passing of my great-grandmother. The second death that I had gone through occurred only one or two months before my great-grandma has passed. All of this turmoil created numerous internal conflicts for me, but also taught me a key lesson to keep note of, for the rest of my life.
Watching a film, one can easily recognize plot, theme, characterization, etc., but not many realize what basic principle lies behind nearly every story conceived: the hero’s journey. This concept allows for a comprehensive, logical flow throughout a movie. Once the hero’s journey is thoroughly understood, anyone can pick out the elements in nearly every piece. The hero’s journey follows a simple outline. First the hero in question must have a disadvantaged childhood. Next the hero will find a mentor who wisely lays out his/her prophecy. Third the hero will go on a journey, either literal or figurative, to find him/herself. On this journey the hero will be discouraged and nearly quit his/her quest. Finally, the
Hunger Games, Star Wars, and A Wrinkle In Time have many similarities, and differences when they go through the Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey is what the main character goes through in a book or movie. For example, Harry Potter, The Hobbit, Ender's Game, and much more.
The Hunger Games, Star Wars, and A Wrinkle in Time all relate to the Hero’s Journey in different ways, but there are also similarities in the approach of Hero’s Journey. The refusal in Hunger Games and Star Wars are alike in the fact that Katniss and Luke’s choice of refusal is for the best of their family. Meg, however, has no choice and regrets going until she realizes that she will get her dad back. Crossing the threshold is different because Katniss has time to soak up the information and Luke just has to leave right away. During the point of the Test/ Allies/ Enemies, the stories are different by the intensity of the events; but they are also alike. The Hero’s Journey throughout the Hunger Games, Star Wars, and A Wrinkle in Time all have many differences and similarities in the approach of the Hero’s Journey.

I got to go and tend to him for a little while, see you

When I was younger, I grew up with four grandparents who I could spend time with. As I started to grow older, my grandparents started to deteriorate. My grandmother developed Alzheimer’s, and more specifically dementia. I remember one day at my beach house when I was talking to her, she asked me who I was because she couldn’t remember. She didn’t remember her own grandson. She started to lose all her memory and she had difficulty hearing and speaking. It got to a point where there was no way of communicating with her, and we wondered if she even knew who her own family was. She went through this deterioration for upwards of 5 years, and I it got to a point where I forgot what she was like before she developed the mental disease. I would watch
women on the couch. “The aging process is apparent to us in the first days of life. Those of us that are cursed age slower and stop at 30.”
The sound of metal crushing as the collision head-on destroyed my thinking path. I felt as if the night was fading into complete darkness. All I could think about as we collided against the mound at the north side of the hill down the gloomy stretch of road was death. The car rolled over continuously till every engine part flew from under the hood. After the car finished rolling I checked to my left to see if Sam was still alive, he was bleeding from his mouth and unresponsive. The right front passenger door was crushed, I couldn't seem to free my right arm, I was trapped. I use my left arm to tug at my right arm free it, I screamed in pain as I pulled and pulled to notice my arm was broken. I managed to pull my right arm away from the crushed door after 10 minutes of agonizing pain shooting through my nerves.
Shadow and James took over and helped by speaking soft words of encouragement to them. Shadow found that if he sang their favorite chant Rae seemed to calm down. James noticed and started in with Shadow.
Well, Mark was with a few of his friends, and decided to walk his girlfriend to his bus stop as they were all going home. They all began to cut through the park to save time, as it was getting dark. They had only just entered the park and they heard some moving about in the large bush to the side of them, but thought nothing of it. Then suddenly, around eight, ten year olds came from out of the bush, claiming that they would knife them'. They followed behind there group of friends, and proceeded to throw stones at them. For a few minutes they endured the stones getting thrown at the,, but then one of the children threw a stone which hit his girlfriend, this angered Mark, so he walked over to the child who threw the stone and grabbed him by his shoulders and began to shout at him. Then, from what seemed like out of no where, two older boys around the age of 17 approached him, this made Mark slightly intimidated as they were a few years older than
My grandma had survived a hard life, and yet managed to raise four responsible, well-educated, and successful children. All this she did while working as a respected psychiatric nurse and a state mental health board member. Although she had had and was still overcoming trials in life, I always knew she would be there and cared about me and my life. As my brother and I grew older and were unable to visit my grandparents as often as we
I lived with my grandmother for the first half of my life. She practically raised me. Everyone in our village would talk about how much she spoiled me. She would go out of her way to get what I needed. One day I was playing with my friends, there was food in the house but I just wanted to eat snacks. I complained and whined about it until I got what I wanted she made my uncle go all the way into the city to buy me some snacks even though I could’ve just eaten what was in the house. She was a part of me. We had so much in common. My mom wasn't unable to raise me because she was living in America.
