The law states that if someone is accused for the murder of another, that person is still innocent until proven guilty. In Adnan Syed's case, there is not enough hard sufficient evidence that could prove that he is guilty for the murder of Hai. The court has just gone off of word of mouth from what the people they put on the stand said in the trials,000000000 but they do not actually have any evidence that proves Adnan truly committed the crime. This is why I believe that he is innocent. First of all, Adnan had an alibi and a witness to confirm this alibi, Asia. There were letters found, written by Asia, that said she had seen Adnan in the library at the time of Hai's murder. However, this evidence was not used during the trial to help Adnan's case. Later on when Sarah Koenig contacted Asia she was informed that Asia and Adnan had actually had a brief conversation the day she saw him in the library. Secondly, the evidence that the court is going off of is merely the story that Jay told the police. For all they know Jay could be lying …show more content…
Sure he was the ex-boyfriend but Hai probably talked to a lot of people, of different races, and all of sudden Adnan is the guilty one? I did some research and in an article I read about the Image result for gavelcase being reopened the reporter stated: "What do we know about the crime? - Syed was convicted of strangling Lee and burying her in a shallow grave" (Allen 1). Yet, that is not actually known, that is just the story that the police have come up with. They cannot say that we all know that that's what happened. They need actual proof to make a statement like that and I feel that they may be targeting him because of his racial background. Overall, these are reasons why I feel that Adnan is innocent. He has not yet actually been proved guilty yet so therefore he is innocent because as the law states, you are innocent until proven
Firstly, the Nisha call placed Adnan with Jay after the murder. This call could have been a butt-dial that rang for 2 minutes. The call could have been from Adnan, who wanted to make Jay talk with Nisha. The Nisha call does not prove Adnan killed Hae, as it simply just puts him with Jay at the time. Also, the prosecution stated that Adnan was constantly doing bad things. Everyone does bad things, but it does not make them murderers. Finally, Jay knew the location of Hae’s car. The fact that Jay knew the location of Hae’s car should arouse suspicion on him. The evidence utilized by the prosecution is circumstantial and can be disproved, and the lack of strong evidence proves Adnan’s
Adnan never forcefully stood up for himself, which proves that he isn’t innocent. For example,
There was a witness named Asia Chapman who said she was with Adnan at the library at the same time that he was supposedly killing Hae. This seems pretty important, right? Well, Asia was never called to the stand to testify for Adnan, even though this seems like an important story. This claim by Asia was a big reason as to why they granted Adnan a retrial. Asia has been waiting over 15 years to speak about what she knows about the case. This will finally give Adnan a fair trial and a chance to be released from prison. There were things that look bad on Adnan’s part like cell tower records, but those were determined to be inaccurate. As I do believe Adnan did not commit the crime, I don’t think he is a fully innocent
The podcast Serial was based off of Adnan who was convicted in 2000 and sentenced to life in prison for the killing his ex-girlfriend and High School classmate Hae Min Lee. The host of Serial was Sarah Koenig. She explained Adnan case in detail and tried to solve the case. She gives her opinion and other peoples opinion on Adnan and whether he did it or not. He was only 17 years old when sentenced. Record state he had murdered her in the beginning of 1999 in Baltimore. Remember he was only 17 at this time. This puts him in senior year of high school. Do you think he is capable of doing something like this?
As previously stated Adnan is clearly making himself guilty by his actions post-trial but what was not mentioned are his actions pre-murder. One very important thing is that was used for Adnan was the fact that many people believed him for a good person.”He was like the community's golden child.”(1) says Rabia. All of Adnan’s buddies praise him aside from Jay, they all talk about how they thought he was a good person and that he would never do any of this stuff yet the evidence is against him. According to his friends he is a good person and that they never would have taken him as a killer yet there is evidence of him doing drugs and passing murderous notes. The biggest issue is that Adnan is playing the good guy even though he is known to bad things and people are enforcing a fake fact. “His family didn't know that he actually drank, he smoked, he was having sex.”(1) says Saad. He’s stolen money, he does drugs, goes to clubs, and yet people take him for some sort of charity worker. The biggest evidence of a liar is when he has other people lie for him. Once he was called by the police and acted very nervously which is strange in a way. Sure it is okay to be curious, but if Adnan were innocent he would not have acted nervous if he had a clear conscience. Even if they were not calling about a murder it proves that Adnan has even more secrets to be hidden. During the Serial podcast Sarah Koenig frequently
They said his motive was that she broke is heart so he killed her and hid her body in leakin park. “Adnan’s friends and teachers say that he took the break up like anyone would.” anyone would act weird if they were planning on killing anyone, He was a normal guy that was going through a breakup, breakups are normally full of sadness and anger but people normally just get over it like adnan was trying to do but then her gets accused of a murder of his ex girlfriend. “The level of frustration he must have felt if he killed her, doesn’t register with me.”. Second He was in love with her even when she broke his heart he still loved her. When you’re in love with someone you wouldn’t kill them he is a normal guy that is sad about a breakup and to kill someone if you love them or not you will be frustrated with yourself and feel guilty. Most people after a breakup dont kill them they move on just like he was doing before she was killed. Yes it’s sad that she was killed but adnan really doesn’t look like the killer there is reasons for people believing he is guilty but why cant they ever have a final conclusion, a
I think that it wasn’t Adnan that killed Hae but Jay did it. I think that he did it because he knew where Hae’s car was parked. I feel like Jay should have gotten some punishment when they convicted Adnan because he was an accessory to murder . I feel like he did it because he seems to tell a lot of people about it to point the finger at Adnan.
However, there is someone else who should be serving more time, Jay. Jay tells the police that he was associated with the murder except that he was doing it unwillingly. When interviewing Jay about the burial of Hae the detective said, “‘You helped him dig the hole,’ Jay says, ‘Yes’’’(8). In this, Jay admits that he helped Jay bury the body. Then, why is Adnan the only one serving time? The police did not put him in jail because Jay helped provide information. Before this, Jay knew that he was going to be let off the hook as long as he helped the police, and this was all part of his plan. Not only did Jay help bury the body, but as mentioned before, Jay brutally strangled a girl to her death. Yet, he is out testifying against someone who not only did not commit the crime but he was supposed to work together with. Adnan was so furious about this that at court this was said by the judge, “I was just informed by my Sheriff that the Defendant made a comment to the witness approached the stand indicating that he was pathetic”(45). Adnan was so filled with anger about Jay was supposed to be his partner, and how on top of that he did not even kill Hae. Adnan shows his true colors here. Even though Jay murdered Hae, Adnan was the one to come up with the idea and plan to kill her. Just because he did not kill Hae that should not mean that he should be walking free. They should serve around equal
I personally believe that there is a third person that committed this murder. I don't think there is enough evidence to convict adnan. I also don't believe jay is telling the truth. I think that jay worked for somebody that killed Hae. I think there was an ulterior motive for this killing, somebody wanted to convict adnan. I think jay plotted all of this out
Perjury is evident throughout the case and Jay Wild’s testimony, which ultimately changed the state’s case and the course of the trial. If the same quality and quantity of evidence were provided in any other murder trial, it should still be unlikely that someone could be convicted of a crime that serious. Adnan’s first crime is an example of how our justice system is still flawed. Multiple physical and substantial pieces of evidence are needed to prove that Adnan is guilty. In Adnan’s first case, evidence was ineffectively used and a large amount of evidence was left out. Looking at the case as a whole, the state’s case was largely based off of whether or not Adnan is capable of murder and the words of one man. Adnan was poorly represented and his defense seemed unorganized and insignificant. Finding Adnan guilty of Hae’s murder based off of one man’s testimony, who admitted to repeatedly lying, and cell phone records that have been proven to be inaccurate is illogical. Analysis of new evidence in comparison to previous evidence used to convict Adnan will show that he is, in fact, innocent. If Adnan’s second trial focusses more on relevant, new information rather than two pieces of questionable evidence and Adnan’s character, capability, or emotional connection to Hae, the jury should find
First Question) I believe that Adnan is innocent and that there is not enough evidence that could convict him of premeditated murder. Although Adnan isn't able to remember what he did the day Hae was killed, Jay’s story didn't add up. his story not only stated that Hae was murdered by Adnan, but also that Hae’s body was buried at Leakin Park. On the day of the murder, Jay had left Jenn’s house at 3.40pm with Adnan's car. She was stashed in his trunk before the burial. At the same time, he had Adnan’s phone with him. As investigators interviewed Jay, the more his story started to change. The inconsistencies usually involved the time certain things took place. For example, the time they buried Hae wasn't consistent and neither was the time they
In 1999 Adnan Syed was 17 years old and senior in high school, on January 13th 1999 Hae Min Lee, a girl that he had been close with, disappeared and 6 weeks later found dead; Adnan syed was charged with her murder and has been in prison ever since then. Adnan is a muslim-american who was on the track team had good grades and was homecoming prince who was dating Hae Min Lee off and on in high school. Hae and Adnan both had strict parents that don't believe in dating forcing them both to keep many secret from their families. When they broke up and Hae started dating a new guy some people say Adnan went crazy and others say he was hurt but he got over it. So when Hae went missing right after school wednesday some people thought it could've been him who killed her. The problem with Adnan's story is he doesn't remember that day, everyone was questions 6 weeks after the day Hae went missing he says he had track practice but they don't take attendance there so no proof, he said he could of been in the library but no one saw him, he also said the his friend Jay had his car and his cell phone when the murder was said to be happening. All together he had no alibi which makes him a suspect but also making jay a suspect. On February 28 1999 Adnan Syed was arrested and charged with first degree murder.
Maybe we will never know who killed Hae but I think Adnan is where he belongs. If Adnan did do it, he is being punished for killing Hae because he is in prison. We are imprisoned in our own mind, Adnan’s prison is one of guilt or pure boredom ; a prison of his
Saying someone is guilty without enough evidence is so absurd. There was once a guy who is proclaimed a guilty by the court without enough evidence or proof. His name is Adnan Syed the fact that the murder case of Hae Min Lee has full of holes and facts don't match up, he was still charged of guilty. There is more evidence that makes sense proving he is innocent than guilty. One big piece of evidence that proves Adnan is innocent is Jay’s story of how events went that day. The woman who narrated the podcast, Sarah Koenig, and one of her fellow producers reenacted the events of that day, except for the murder, according to Jay’s story. They realized that the first part of the day could have happened, such as going to the mall and looking for
I think Syed is innocent. Firstly, there was not enough evidence to put Syed in prison in the first place. Secondly, Syed said that after they broke up, he never hated her, he was OK and did really care. Lastly, with the evidence that Sarah discovered it is obvious that he did not commit the crime, Ashia’s letters could have easily pleaded him innocent. However, Asia then calls one of the prosecutors saying that she was pressured to write the letters. But she could have easily gotten out of it, and called the police on them. Thus, I think Asia must have something to do with the
