Credibility has become an expanding issue in our modern life; many people fake different stories about random stuff in order to get financial benefits not caring about the harms of these lies on the community in general. People, especially students, have the passion to look up information about our world from political issues, economics, disasters and many more things. Students are also required to do many researches during their educational journey. We look up information using internet and searching engines; for this reason, we should be careful about what we are reading, and if what had been written is credible or not. There are many criteria that we can use to determine if the website is credible or not. The first and the most important …show more content…
The “.org” is suspected not to be credible since those websites are related to organizations which are often biased. The “.com” websites are not always trusted website since they are financial sites, and anybody can create one. The third criterion is the evidence like statistics, interviews with specialized people, quotes. Those evidences should be cited also in the article from its credible source. When I put “Dr. Jack Cohen, a reproductive biologist” in the Google search engine, and “Michael Persinger, neurologist and geologist” in another tab, many websites pop out. While taking a look on the websites, many looked pretty credible to me. For example “http://oldwebsite.laurentian.ca” seems very credible to me since this website is related to an educational property which is Laurentian University. Also the author of the article, which was like a biography to Dr. M. Persinger, was the Dr. himself. Another website that was credible is “www.drjackcohen.com”; this website gives a complete description about Dr. Cohen, but the most important thing is that the author gave the reader the chance to contact Dr. Cohen by phone, mail, fax, email. There are also some websites that seem biased to me. For example, the website
Although most of the information available may be true, there are other indicators that the website may not have the most reliable information. There are no footnotes contained on any of the webpages, nor are there links to reliable sources of information. In fact, nearly all of the links on the site will redirect you to another page under the same domain. This, to me, is a good indicator that there are no other sources to justify that the information contained are from a quality source.
That last bit is the author of the webpage’s opinion. ( I did a quick search on this fellows page to see if I could find out his accreditations, not surprisingly there are none. Also not surprising is his unwillingness to respond to his emails that he gets generated from his site. Oh but you can
Medicare and Medicaid information can be overwhelming and confusing to both the consumer and the healthcare professional. The information highway known as the World Wide Web (WWW) can provide the answers to questions about these government benefits, but getting clear, informative and accurate knowledge can be overwhelming. O’Sullivan (2011) identified the WWW as “a primary repository for health information for the medically naïve yet technically savvy healthcare consumer.” One internet website that provides information about Medicare and Medicaid is CMS.gov ("Cms.gov centers for”). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is the United States agency that administers Medicare,
I asked if the website had included any authors and if there was a possibility that you could contact them. I also asked if there were any credible sources that were cited on the website. The date when it was last updated and what the website looked like when it was first created are other questions I have. Lastly, I questioned the writing style and grammar of the site.
(3).The reader believes the credibility of the sources is very much strong, because both articles gave many resources and data in which you may go find for yourself to see if indeed the facts are the facts, they also have cited were they got their information. They got books to further your reader too.
In general most articles found in the library database are reliable, the only thing that is good to look for is if there is any biases in the article or reasons why the author may become bias, in the case of the author of this article Rebecca Turner is graduated it from the Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Essex, UK, which in this case helps to her credibility as an author.

This website is reliable. We looked at the website evaluator tool and we realized that our article fulfilled the requirements. We found the author, there were no broken links, and there is a lot of contact information for all of the authors and publishers of the website. Also you can not change the information on the website.
Advancements in technology have led people to be affected by an overflow of information. Many websites contain information that is unmonitored making it difficult for nurses to obtain accurate, credible information. It is essential for people such as health care professionals to know how to determine the credibility of a website in order to ensure that the information being provided to the patients is accurate. Nurses guide their practice by the use of evidence based practice and provide their patients with information on a routine basis. Thus, it is important for them to ensure a website is credible before providing the patient with any type of information. By the use of the criteria authority, information, objectivity, ease of navigation, and privacy/security policies, nurses can more effectively and efficiently determine website credibility. The criteria was applied to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website in order to determine the credibility of this website with satisfactory results.
In today’s world of medicine when developing a patient care plan nurses should use evidence-based practice that has been peer-reviewed by subject matter experts (Miller, Jones, Graves, & Sievert 2010). The internet is frequently used by nurses to gather more information, expand their knowledge base, and provide patient education. The website http://kidshealth.org was found using the Google search engine, and chosen because of my work with the pediatric population. The purpose of KidsHealth is to provide parents, teens, and kids with a resource to consult regarding the health,
When beginning to research for this project, it seemed that a lot of credible sources were from universities or other educational establishments. The best website is sponsored by Vanderbilt University and has awesome information and was very eye-catching. There was also another site sponsored by The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and it gave good information but not as much as the best one. Lastly, I chose a site that was not very good at all to discuss what makes it not credible. Knowing the difference between a credible source and a non-credible source is crucial to the research process. Each site chosen for this project has several pros and cons of why it is either credible or non-credible.
In the book of Lamentations 3:40 it reads “let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.”1 It is essential that when bombarded with an excessive amount of information that each document is closely examine. When new information is released it is important the results be corroborated or the information may not be deemed to be true. The bible often warns God`s children about being watchful, sober-minded and careful because the world is made up of false prophets. The same false prophecies also occur in all different types of media outlets such as the internet and the news, however it is the job research to evaluate to deem research relevant. Therefore the Credibility Accuracy Reasonableness Support (CARS) method was to created to assist student, teachers and researchers in determining is valuable.
