A personal ethical code is something everyone has. People may be aware of it to different degrees, or have differing levels of definition, but no one is entirely unprincipled. Ethical codes may be based off different factors such as religion, society, and family. My personal ethical code is derived from simply one source, the writings of Immanuel Kant. I find that the code described by him is the only one that is truly justified, and therefore the only one I would be able to follow without cognitive dissonance or feeling I was doing the wrong thing. However, as this is my personal code, and I don’t want to merely rephrase Kant, I interpret the rules much differently than he did, and in some places make modifications or draw radically different conclusions. Otherwise, My ethical code is based on following The Categorical Imperative whenever possible. The Categorical Imperative is the foundation of my metaethics. In making actions there are many “Hypothetical imperatives” we could take. These are straight out of kant and were statements like: “In order to do X, I must do Y.” A moral imperative is different in that it is merely “Do Y.” A moral imperative can tell us which hypothetical imperative to pick. To have a real moral imperative it must be independent of context or situation. It has to be something that can always be followed. As a social work undergraduate, we have several queries regarding why it is so important to follow the NASW code of Ethics and values that relate to human diversity, with regard for the worth and dignity of all persons, as applied to a specific case where we are delivering social work. It is very essential to recognize the five core values of social work, service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, and integrity and competence on our occupation of social work. Today, we have chosen two areas and situations of how we are going to deal with our biases and our challenges while working as social workers, by employing the NASW code of Ethics and values that relate to human diversity, with regard for the worth and dignity of all persons.

Ethical Codes provides a framework and guidance for maintaining obligations to different stakeholders (Follari, 81).NAEYC and NEA both created a code of ethics. The national education association (NEA) code of ethics has two main principles: commitment to the student and commitment to the profession. NAEYC also developed a code of ethics with the intent to “give practitioners a research-based framework for making sound decisions in their work, especially when faced with ethical dilemmas” (Follari , 72). NAEYC code set a framework of professional responsibilities in four sections that address professional relationships that include: children, families, colleagues, and community and society; and in which each section is divided into ideal and principles. I understand that people get emotional when things like divorce and custody arises and things can get out of hand, but in this case, I feel he went a little overboard only thinking about himself and not considering the consequences this all had on his ex wife and minor child. He was definitely unprofessional and even one of the judges said “ if someone asks me what vexatious litigation looks like, the former husband's various filings in this divorce case, especially his antics in these post judgment proceedings, are an excellent example” (Judge Farmer, 1997). Judges and lawyers have a higher standard to go by, if this type of action is not tolerated when representing a client, then it definitely should not be tolerated by a lawyer in his own case.
Immanuel Kant explains different concepts in Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals; one includes “The Categorical Imperative” that I agree with. Kant states “I ought never to act except in such a way that I can also will that my maxim should become a universal law” (Kant, 113), which describes Categorical Imperative. The reason a person acts should be based on reason and if it were something they wanted to become universalized or not.
My personal code of ethics has helped me achieve my goals in life and do well in school. Whenever I have to do something that is important to me, I make sure to keep my code of ethics in mind. My code of ethics comes from the values my parents have imposed on me and the lessons they have taught me throughout my life. Whenever I make a mistake or get in trouble, they make sure I understand what I did wrong and make sure I understand the consequences that I will endure if something like that happens again. The mistakes I have made helped me realize that I need to take responsibility for my actions. My principles have developed with my experiences as well. For example, during a tennis tournament that I played in last year, I had to compete against a girl that was very good athlete and won many more tournaments that I have participated in. The purpose of my personal ethics code is to inspire success and promote prosperity. For me, this is very important because of all the hurdles I've had to overcome throughout my academic career. My idea for developing a personal code is to promote a successful lifestyle. However, it is not only limited to my future career, but also encourages success within personal relationships, as well as assigned tasks and duties that are expected of me. It is tailored in a way that allows me to think outside the box.
I developed my personal code of ethics by reviewing my life and reflecting on the values I have been taught and what I performed the most. I also remembered the ethics that other people I respect have offered so I adopted them and incorporated those into my daily life. Most of these I have learned to perform because I was educated with a Biblical worldview all my life so the Bible is my foundation for most of these. All of these ethics are utilized in keeping me on the righteous path of life and making sure I am pointed in the right direction.

The code of ethics and conduct is also be backed up by suitable disciplinary actions. A code of ethics and conducts helps employees deal with ethical issues and other gray areas that they face as they execute their daily activities. An effective code of ethics and conduct is required for an organization to run smoothly and maintain a positive image. Having an ineffective code of ethics and conduct is almost like having none.
