To Kill a Mockingbird It is difficult to define what makes a good father, but Atticus’s unconditional love for his children is admirable. In Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus is portrayed as a good father with many good qualities. However, like any human, he is not perfect. He does has some flaws. Atticus was portrayed as an amazing father, however, he did possess few bad qualities as well. Unlike some fathers, Atticus is very loving and caring towards his kids. He teaches his kids by doing by example. More than any parent in Maycomb County. When asked why Atticus was defending Tom Robinson he said “I couldn't hold up my head in town........ I couldn’t even tell you (Scout) or Jem not to do something again.” (78) Atticus cares very much about being a role model to his children so much, he took up a case because he wants to be a good role model and lead by a good example. While Atticus is a great father some good qualities, he is not some all power, perfect being. Atticus does have some flaws like any human As any father should, Atticus should spend more time with his kids. Especially without a mother in their lives. As we can see there is no mother in their lives except Calpurnia, but how much can one maid do to control both kids do? The kids get bored and do not have much to do and a result of this kids do some dumb stuff. Such as, messing with Boo Radley and other stuff. They need someone to guide them and tell what not to do. Atticus spending time with his children would easily solve this. Atticus is clearly shown in the book as a good father but he does have some flaws like any
Throughout Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, it seems as if Atticus Finch is a failure as both a parent and a lawyer. However, somebody with a good understanding of the novel will realise that Atticus is in fact a terrific lawyer and a superb father. However, like all people, Atticus has his flaws.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee presents Atticus Finch as a principled lawyer, committed but single father to Scout and Jem, and a law-abiding citizen. Atticus is a respectable gentleman in society and a role model for his children. Throughout the book we see evidence of his honorable intentions, though he doesn’t seem to reap the rewards. He is morally upstanding, even-keeled, and daring. Because of these things, Atticus is a man who deserves great respect and admiration.
Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird depicts Atticus Finch as a good father to his children due to his sense of fairness, his teaching, and his honesty. Atticus depicts fairness by treating his children and all others with respect and understanding. He teaches his children important life lessons and prepares them for when they go out into the world, and he sets a good example by always being honest. To be a good father, these are three very important qualities to possess.
Atticus is one of the major characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, and he appears in almost every chapter. Atticus is the father of Jem and Scout and appears in every chapter. While some might think Atticus is not a proper role model, he is a good role model because he treats everybody with respect, he sees other races as equal, and he fights for equality.
I believe Atticus is a good father because he saved scout from a rabid dog. He is providing a good stable foundation for his children, at least he's trying to. He disciplines them and tries to keep them out of trouble.
As a single father, he faced more problems compared with other normal families. However, because of his faith in Christ, he did not feel tired or frustrated when household affairs came before him. Atticus Finch as an icon for a great father, his parenting style should be admired and followed by all parents. He does not restrict his children from doing or joining any activities, however, he does teach his children to become mature and should put Christ as their examples. Atticus Finch used himself to become an example for his children to follow. According to the Bible, Atticus Finch is a qualified parent in God’s eye. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs
Atticus can’t do anything, according to Jem Finch. In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus is feeble, nearly blind, and too old to play tackle football. Atticus differs from most fathers in Maycomb, he never plays poker or goes fishing, doesn’t drink or smoke, and likes to read alone. Although Atticus might seem quite boring compared to other fathers in Maycomb, he is considered one of the most extraordinary father and human being in modern day literature. In a time where racism and unjust biased plagued the United States and the minds of it’s citizens, Atticus sees through society 's opinions, and listens to his core values. It is this reason that Atticus is role model not only for society but his children as well. Atticus Finch 's wisdom and insightful mindset about empathy, courage and race has left a truly positive impact on Jem and Scout.
Atticus Finch is head of the throne over Joe Gargery of Great Expectations and Chlomo Wiesel of Night. I believe that Atticus Finch is an astoundingly well adjusted father for many reasons. First of all, he was a single parent that managed to make time for Jem and Scout, his two children. He is also a courageous, generous, forgiving, and honest man. Atticus Finch is a single parent working an exceptionally hard job to bring in enough income to pay his maid and supply the needs for his children. He is away most of the day at the courthouse defending his clients. Although his job sometimes required long hours, he still made time to read to his daughter at bedtime and pass a ball with his son. Therefore, Atticus Finch of To Kill a Mockingbird is the better father over Joe Gargery of Great Expectations and Chlomo Wiesel of Night because of his courageousness, generosity, forgiveness, and honesty.
Mrs. Alexandra, from my understanding, a good parent is one who creates a safe nurturing environment for a child to grow up in, displays characteristics of a positive role model, and is an active part of a child’s life. (Atticus, look at Scout and Jem affectionately ) Good parents provide moral guidance, sets limitations, and implements consequences for a child’s behavior. (Atticus, use a ruler and slap it in your hand looking at Scout and Jem symbolizing a Spanking as punishment) Atticus is a very effective parent to Scout and Jem. I know he is constantly working; but rest assured, his children are his primary concern and he loves them very much. (Atticus, hug Scout and Jem or do something showing your love <3) Atticus finds time for his
“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” -Abraham Lincoln Throughout the book, Atticus Finch has proven to be a great father on multiple occasions, treating both white and black, child and adult, equally. He treats everyone, even his enemies with deep respect, as to why everyone does not hesitate to defend him, such as his children or blacks after he defended Tom Robinson, an innocent negro.
While Atticus may make some mistakes as a parent, overall he is an admirable father. This can be seen from the moment he shot the dog, and when he defended a black person in trial.
Atticus has integrity, because being judged would usually cause a person to give up. He even has a black maid! Cooking with grace, Calpurnia has to block out all of the people judging her. Atticus demonstrates heroic qualities that have inspired others to be moral humans, and even some become lawyers. He shows a trait many others don’t have.
Atticus is a very laid back parent which I think is really cool. My parents are very strict on what I can and can’t do. So Atticus’s parenting style looks like a very good way of parenting. I like how he lets his children learn from their mistakes on their own, even though he knows what they’ve done and could’ve easily punished them. He doesn’t make it awkward for them to have to own up to their mistakes, he doesn’t even bring it up unless it is something very serious that needs to be dealt with right away. For example, when Jem tore up Mrs. Dubose’s flower bed, Atticus punished him by making him read to her every day for almost two months. With my family it’s the opposite. If
In the past century, there have been many great novels written. One of which is Harper Lee's, 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. In the novel it introduces a prominent character who not only was a good father but also a well respected, and compassionate man. This person is Atticus Finch. Through all the struggles and pressures, he stands strong as a very positive father figure, making sure to educate his children with important values including equality, bravery, and knowledge.
Atticus is a great parent. He does many things that make him a great parent such as, being respectful, giving great advice, and he is very caring. To begin with, Atticus does not expect the respect of his children but earns it, this is shown many times, but the best example is when he tells Scout “We’ll go on reading as we always have.” (pg.41) he is showing he respects Scout because he believes she is smart enough to read and agrees more with Scout than her teacher. Secondly, he gives them great advice, when Scout is upset about her teacher telling her not to read, Atticus tells her that she will get along with people better if she can climb into their skin and walk around in it. He makes her understand what is happening in her life and resolves her issue. Lastly, Atticus is very caring.
