In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, power is something that everyone craves, but, for Macbeth, power makes him woeful. Macbeth shows how terrible he is when more opportunities of power are introduced to him. Several bad reflections are, Macbeth kills his king Duncan to become the king of Scotland, appointing people to kill his best friend Banquo and his son Fleance to shatter their prophecy and executing Macduff’s family because Macduff fled to England to liberate Scotland from Macbeth.

It began when Macbeth obtains news that he will eventually become king after Duncan and goes to extremes to make sure this occurs. Following the discussion between Macbeth along with the three witches, Macbeth starts to ponder with the idea of doing awful acts to reach the goals for his prophecy. For instance, “…may I pour my spirits in thine ear…Which fate and metaphysical aid doth seem To have thee crowned withal” (Act l, Scene v, Page 339, Line 26-30) and, “I go, and it is done. The bell invites me… That summons thee to heaven, or to hell” (Act ll, Scene i, Page 350, Lines 62-64). These quotes reveal that with a little persuasion, Macbeth murdered his king for higher authority and lifestyle. After killing Duncan, Macbeth continued to benefit from murder to obtain what he aspires. As Macbeth thinks about Banquo, he continues to get more bitter and cruel for the sake of concluding Banquo’s son's prophecy of becoming kings. For example, “Fleance his son, that keeps him company, Whose absence is no less material to me Than his father’s, must embrace the fate Of that dark hour…” (Act lll, Scene i, Lines 134-137).
