Over the past two years since I started working as a dental assistant at Kidwell and Albus Dentistry, watching and learning from the doctors, hygienists and assistants as well as helping them. I have realized that there is a lot of joy, and satisfaction when I help the patients improve their dental hygiene and provide the best service possible along with my coworkers. I have gained a lot of experience about what the job entails, the benefits, drawbacks, and ultimately concluded that dental hygienist is the career path that I want to pursuit at this moment in my life, mainly because of three reasons which are professional fulfillment, financial stability, and time flexibility. Before explaining each of my reasons for my decision, I want to …show more content…
As I explained before very few career paths allow you to have a person you have never met before entrust you with their health and their well being. It doesn't stop there though, seeing them come back and thanking you just makes you want to become better and keep improving your skills. 97% of the patients we treat in our office are adults with a very active lifestyle that keeps them from taking a break during the day but once they get in our chairs they feel comfortable enough to take a moment and relax. And I know that most of the people out here hate going to the dentist but the environment that I work in is so friendly and welcoming that patients sit in our chairs with a smile on their face, ready to start their dental cleaning. I’ve got to meet a lot of great people in the office and it has given me such a satisfaction seeing them leaving and coming back with a ton of new stories and it’s lovely the way patients have showed us their appreciation. This is a feeling I had never felt before working at any other place in my life, and I very well want to keep helping people and pushing myself to become better not just at my job but as a person in
It is evident that it is truly where my head, heart and hands, become one. Being a dental hygienist and working in close proximity with the dentist has served to strengthen my desire to take my education and service to the next level. I want to increase my knowledge about the science behind dentistry and learn everything I need to know to be a great dentist and apply it into practice. Improve constantly and strive to provide the highest quality of oral health care available to patients by delivering meticulous, gentle, thorough, reassuring dentistry and exceeding patient satisfaction. Dentistry without a doubt, is the profession for me. I believe I have the qualities that are essential to making a great dentist along with the academic motivation in order to replace my interest for dentistry with the expertise that will help me provide quality oral care. If my greatest aspirations are to provide pain relief, to develop patient rapport, and utilize creativity in working with my hands, then dentistry is, indeed, my
Being a dental hygienist was not the career I grew up believing I would pursue. At a young age, up to my Junior year in high school, I had my goals set on being a veterinarian. Going into high school I widened that plan into any job dealing with animal science. However, taking classes like zoology, botany, equine science, veterinary technology and advanced animal science, made me realize that I would not have as much direct contact or personal connections with the animals as I had hoped. However I found that being a dental hygienist gives me the opportunity to have that direct contact and personal connections with my patients.
Choosing a carrier has been a difficult task. The endless options use to overwhelm me. I feared choosing a carrier in which I was not going to be happy with. This kept me paralyze for many years, unsure and unwilling, to make a decision. Today, I’m working on not letting that fear consume my essence and take the best of me. Something I know for sure, I love working with my hands, it helps me stay calm and relax. I have always been interested in helping other and in working in the health field. Additionally, working on this assignment was very rewarding. I interviewed Karina Perez, a Registered Dental Hygienist. Becoming a Dental Hygienist is my aim, it has become my long-term goal. Therefore, being able to interview someone in the field not only brought me confidence to continue my path, I also met a Hygienist that graduated from the same college I’m interested in applying.
To start, I have always had an interest in the health field and knew it was where I saw my future. I came across dental hygiene and quickly became fascinated. I learned just how important it can be and how many tend to overlook it. Given the opportunity, I would like to make sure my patients understand the importance of dental hygiene and share my knowledge. I feel because I have been given an opportunity that others weren’t so fortunate to receive; it is my responsibility to give back. I come from a small community in Northern New Mexico in which I plan to return and offer my knowledge and skills. I also have plans of doing missionary work for those who are unable to afford dental care. To be accepted into the prestigious Division of Dental
I choose Dental Hygienist as a career for a variety of reasons such as education, interest, salary, schedule, and social interaction. Caring for others and their personals needs is something I am good at. I enjoy interacting with people of different ages and backgrounds, and with this career I am given the opportunity to do this every day. I have always been interested in teeth, and how oral care impacts the overall health, self-esteem, and confidence. A few years ago I got braces on my top and bottom teeth. Throughout the four years I was having my teeth treated I became even more fascinated with teeth. I met Cecile Nguyen who was the Dental Hygienist at the dental office I was going to at the time, she was always so kind, educative and very
Dental hygiene has had a significant impact on my life since I was a child. While most children would absolutely dread going to have their teeth cleaned, I was the kid always eager and ready to get to the dentist office. Throughout my journey of traveling through life, I have had several experiences that just called to me saying dental hygiene is definitely the career for me. Shadowing my own dental hygienists and having the privilege to be hands on and work with them was amazing. I enjoyed every minute from simply going over X-Rays to getting to know the patients personally.
Deciding what you want to do for the rest of your life is never easy; in part because you never know what the future has in store. Furthermore, there are endless possibilities to take into consideration. A desire to help others has always been a passion of mine and I envision myself in a service oriented career path. With a great deal of time, soul searching, research and careful consideration, I have come to realize that pursuing a degree in dental hygiene will help me reach my goals and fulfill my dreams. Dental Hygienists are patient, understanding, detail-oriented and passionate about oral hygiene. They possess leadership skills and enjoy daily interaction with patients. I embody these character traits and look forward to educating
My passion is to care for the health of a smile. Although my ideas towards Dental Hygiene have changed in the last two years, I still adore the profession I have chosen. Though I love hygiene, I was unaware how physically demanding it was upon the whole body. I have significantly more respect for experienced hygienists, as it is a skill that truly improves with time. The areas I’m more interested in specializing in would be pediatrics and periodontics. I enjoy interacting with children, but also feel that maybe it wouldn’t challenge the application of my clinical skills enough. However I would not mind working part time in a pediatric office. Whereas with periodontics, I love the challenge, the biochemical interaction and physiological response of the human body involved in treatment, with each
When I finish the dental cleanliness program at Cape Fear, I need to utilize the contacts I'm making in the dental field to discover a position with a neighborhood private practice. I am likewise open to filling in as a floater in different workplaces until I can secure a perpetual position in a practice that is a solid match for me. Since dental hygienists are among the quickest developing occupations, I feel certain that I will discover an occupation after I complete school and acquire my
Towards the end of my high school year, an incident happened that costed two of my front teeth. There I was, sitting in the dental office feeling despair and helpless. But all the horrible feelings vanished after I saw the dental hygienist. The dental hygienist told me he had lost his teeth during his high school times also, and there is nothing to worry about. To make the situation better, he even showed me a picture of him smiling without his teeth. There are numerous ways to show and provide your care for other people, and that is the moment when I decided to choose dental hygienist as a major. Moving on to the year of 2015, my brother was hospitalized for his nearly-ruptured appendix. During that time, me and my parents were not able to stay in the hospital at all time due to our family business. Thanks to the nurses, they
At the age of thirteen, I decided that I wanted to become a dentist. I have since read countless dental textbooks explaining everything from anatomy to treatment of oral diseases. My junior year of high school, I entered the Dental Assistant program at the Clark County Skills Center. Through the program I gained the knowledge needed to become a dental assistant. The Skills Center further strengthened my decision to become a dentist by teaching me how the dental world truly functions. In December of 2105, at the age of 16, I became a Certified Dental Assistant and began working at Design Dentistry. Working at Design Dentistry with Dr. Wenzinger has inspired me to continue my education, and I plan to further my education to become a dentist.
During this semester I had the opportunity to work along the side with many dentists, hygienists, assistants, treatment coordinators, and also financial coordinators at Dental Associates of Manchester. Dental Associates of Manchester is located at 120 E Fayette Street, Manchester, Ia 52057. While I was on the work site at Dental Associates my job duties were to watch how the dentist and hygienists work and clean inside a patient's mouth and their full routine of what they do before a patient comes in and after a patient comes in. While I was working up front my job duties were to watch and see how they interact with customers and how they go about signing in patients checking them out and also scheduling them for their next appointment if necessary.
To be honest, I don't like History classes at all because these have so many things (names, dates, places, ect) to reading and remembering. I'm actually not a person that have a good memory, this is why I spend most of my time on this class. Nevertheless, I have to admit that history is still relevant today because people can get inspiration from the great men of the past throught history. I want to be a Dental Hygienist, from this class I have learned so many new things. I'm not sure this class can be helpful to me in my field, but at least it teaches me what our forefathers experienced and suffered in the past in order to make our country what it is today.
Now, in Laura Joseph article “What Makes a Person Successful and Happy Being a Dental Hygienist”, she gives us the statement, “It is through them that I have realized that being a dental hygienist is more than having a special skill or a getting a paycheck. It is being a part of a profession and making a difference” (3). Know that I am capable of caring for people is my enjoyable hobby I have plus it’s very rewarding knowing you have made someone
Coming from a family that struggles financially, my parents were frequently absent for work, and often left me in charge to take care of my sister and brother. From my siblings’ birth in January 2006 and May 2008 respectively, I was tasked with feeding, teaching, and caring for them while my parents were working, on top of managing my own schoolwork. However, I am fulfilled by the sense of gratitude I receive when I began caring for those who could not care for themselves. In addition to teaching me patience, this also impels me towards a nursing career where I can fully utilize my strengths. Furthermore, I gained exposure in healthcare through my internship at Chapa-De as a dental assistant that began in early November 2016. By working clinically for over 12 hours a week, I gain invaluable exposure and experience by working with a variety of patients each day. The skills I develop, such as time management, infection control, and patient comfort are beneficial tools I will wield into my nursing education and career. Although my internship is focused on the dental aspect of healthcare, I desire to transfer my skills and experience into nursing because of the higher variety and more holistic aspects of patient care that enthralls me and my neverending curiosity. Nonetheless, the opportunity to learn each day in this field of healthcare is fascinating, and only further motivates me
