During the 16th century, Protestantism spread across France leading to a number of religious and civil wars. The wars between the Protestants and the Roman Catholics resulted in the massacre of some 3,000 Protestants in Paris on the eve of St. Bartholomew’s Day in 1572. The statecraft of such royal advisers as the cardinals Richelieu and Mazarin helped France in becoming the greatest power in Europe during the 17th century. Unfortunately, defeats in a series of costly foreign wars during the 18th century caused France to loose many of their overseas territories, and brought the country near bankruptcy. In 1789 revolution toppled the King, Louis XVI, and proclaimed the rights of man. The French Revolution took a bloody turn and ended in a weak government of five directors. France soon fell into the hands of Napoleon Bonaparte, who ruled from 1799-1814, first as consul, then as emperor. Napoleon’s far fetched military ventures ended in 1815 with his downfall. A limited monarchy was restored and, with the exception of a brief republican period (1848-52), brought about the creation of the Third Republic.
After WWI, a resistance movement known as Free France was organized in Britain under the leadership of General Charles de Gaulle. Allied and Free French forces liberated France in 1944. Parliamentary democracy was restored to France under the Fourth Republic. Another costly war against
Germany, so France’s struggle with autonomy and responsibility began long before World War II did.
The French Republic is a sovereign state comprising territory in western Europe and several overseas regions and territories. As a member of G7 France ranked as the world’s seventh largest economy. It also has the mixed economy which combines private enterprise and government intervention. France’s economics are unstable, but it is still very competitive in the world. The reason why its economics is denounced is because its high unemployment rate and its extremely unstable CPI.
Just about any country that one can name has some history of civil unrest, class issues, rioting in the streets, and outright warfare. These patterns of behavior are common denominators for most civilization in the world. The names, faces, and places may change, but the motivations are generally the same, because of the need for change and the willingness to do whatever is necessary to achieve it. In contrast to the United States, which was in the process of freeing itself from British colonial rule, France was working to free itself from royal absolutism. This period is historically known as the French Revolution. Many scholars do not agree on the chronology of the French Revolution; some scholars suggest that the Revolution took place between 1789 to 1799 while others feel that it did not end until Napoleon lost power in 1815. To better understand the history of the French Revolution it is necessary to discuss the causes, major events, significant figures, and the outcomes associated with these political developments. Without this uprising, that changed the face of the entire country and influenced local political life in many countries in Europe, in all likelihood the France we know today would never have existed.
The French Revolution began in 1789 as an attempt, by the revolutionaries, to form a new government that would give the people more liberty, equality and value people’s rights. Between 1793 and 1794 the government used extreme ways to achieve their goals. This period of time, led by Robespierre, was called the reign of Terror because between 20,000-40,000 french people were killed by the government forces. The Reign of Terror was not justified for three reasons:The external and internal threat did not deserve it, they denied natural rights against people who opposed them and the methods of the Terror were too extreme.
Throughout history, symbols have had an overwhelming presence among citizens. The French Revolution had many symbols that represented power. Did the events leading up to the storming of the Bastille persuade the French citizens to believe that it was a symbol of power? There are many reasons why the French citizens would believe the Bastille to be a symbol of power. It was a very overwhelming stone structure, which stood robust, surrounded by small villages along with farmland. The architecture and placement of this fortress gave itself a reputation of strength and impregnation. It stood by itself, being the most intimidating structure of its time.
The French Revolution was a period of social and political turmoil in France from 1789 to 1799 that greatly affected modern and French history. It marked the decline of powerful monarchies and the rise of democracy, individual rights and nationalism. This revolution came with many consequences because of the strive for power and wealth, but also had many influential leaders attempting to initiate change in the French government and the economy. In 1789 the people of France dismissed King Louis XVI of his title, took apart his monarchy and executed him, his wife Marie Antoinette and thousands of nobles. The French set up a new system of government with specific revolutionary ideals, including liberty, equality and fraternity. This was a
The French revolution first starting in modern European history at 1789 and ending a year later in 1790, it was a important event in Frances history as well as modern European history, it started with France fighting many wars such as the war against Prussia, great Britain and helping fight in the American revolution these wars took a heavy price on Frances
During 1780s to 1790s France was in total chaos. France was ruled by the Bourbon family King Louis XVI from 1754 to 1793, it was an absolute monarch and they had absolute power and did not share it with a legislature. The situation was already bad before Louis XVI began his reign, but situation got worse. In the end, there was a revolution in France and a vast amount changes to the society and the government of France. Louis XVI himself was executed and killed; while France was established as a democratic country. There were different reasons for Louis's downfall: social, economic, political conditions. Also reasons such as the Age of Enlightenment when some philosophers had new ideas of how the country should be ruled, the inequalities

France conducted nearly 200 nuclear tests in French Polynesia between 1966 and 1996. The French Government has admitted in the past it's possible the Mururoa atoll could cave in because it has been sapped by the underground tests. The territory is set to embark on a four-year renovation of infrastructure and facilities on former test sites. The Joint Commander of Armed Forces in French Polynesia, Rear Admiral “Anne Cullere”, has recently toured around the area. She has dismissed the risks of Moruroa atoll collapsing and downplayed concerns of radioactivity levels and the health problems of former test site workers. Rear Admiral Cullere has also been quoted in local media as saying French Polynesian veterans should be proud of their contribution

The French should have realized from their own history that having your own priorities disregarded by another is something that many people will not stand for. Even the settlers noted the emergence of the rebels and were worried about what would happen to them if there was a revolt. “The progress of nationalist militancy among North African coloniaux raised deep concern among European settlers in Algeria and in political and official circles in France” which shows that there was enough upheaval for change to occur.” The French were too comfortable and happy ruling over another group. They felt secure through their harsh restrictions and violence that until the natives seemed strong enough, they were not worried about a revolt. However, they
The country of France was originally an absolute monarchy led by a king who had total power over the government and the people, and the people felt that that needed to change. The king, King Louis XVI led France into a civil war, also known as the French Revolution. There are various reasons why King Louis XVI needed to abdicate, and his violation of human rights was one of them. He raised taxes to cover his spendings and the price of the war, sending the Third Estate into extreme poverty. The french society was divided into 3 groups, the First Estate, Second Estate and Third Estate.
France is a nation focused on culture. It is in many ways the "cultural capital of the world". France has always been an inspiration for many artists. Due to its strong culture and other moral factors, France is a country afraid of change and its education system is subject to this fear. In France today, the education system is very similar to what it has been in the past. As other nations take steps to reform and improve their educational facilities France must be willing to follow or they will be left behind.
I do not think that ethical concerns of half a century ago are things of the past. The social-welfare states of Western Europe were founded with specific ethical concerns in mind that cannot be ignored during a time of economic change. Reducing social and economic inequality, improving the living standards of the poor, and providing nearly free health care to all are goals that are good for the society as a whole; therefore, they will continue to hold importance no matter how much time has passed. France is committed to protecting workers rights, and that priority should always exist. I believe that market reform will not be able to protect these priorities and it will re-create conditions seen before these priorities were established, such
