Gabriel J. Iglecias. Known as “Fluffy”, this American comedian has rose in fame and popularity over the past decade, and for good reason. Deemed as a “comedic genius”, Iglecias has left his mark on the comedy world, and continues to add upon it daily. However, behind Iglecias’s rise to fame, is a struggling childhood, and that’s where we’ll begin.
Born to a single mother on July 15th, 1976, in San Diego, California, Gabriel J. Iglecias is the youngest of six children. Originally, Gabriel's last name was to be spelled "Iglesias", however due to his father's failure to arrive at his birth, his mother, out of spite to the father, changed the s in his name to a c, in a successful attempt to annoy him. Throughout Iglecias's childhood, he was constantly on the move. Growing up in Riverside, Corona, Santa Ana, Baldwin Park, and Compton, was was constantly being uprooted before eventually residing in a low-income housing district known as Section 8 in Long Beach. This is where Iglecias spent the majority of his youth.
Before Iglecias's comedic career started, he worked for a cell phone company in Los Angeles. Despite being somewhat financially stable and the urges of his family, Gabriel wanted to pursue his dream in comedy. From appearing in season 6 of the Nickelodeon sketch comedy ‘All That” to voicing an entire Mexican family in “Family Guy” eventually, Iglecias became more and more popular. In 2009, Iglecias made his first deal with Comedy Central. In November of that year, the DVD of his show “Gabriel Iglecias: I’m not Fat… I’m Fluffy” was released. With sudden increases in popularity, Gabriel was offered more opportunities, from guest appearing on the YouTube show “Epic Meal Time” to playing a strip club DJ/drug dealer in the film “Magic
