1. INTRODUCTION
Video games made their first appearance in the early 1970s. For the past 30 years, video games have had a major impact on how people spend their leisure time. The first generation of video games were nothing more than simple geometric shapes, one or more of which could be controlled by the game player. Each generation of games always uses the newest technologies available,

Violent video games influence behavior by promoting aggressive beliefs and attitudes, thus creating aggressive schema, aggressive behavioral scripts, and aggressive expectations. Children ages 8 to 17 who played a lot of violent video games showed an increase in aggressive behavior — such as hitting, shoving and pushing — three years later, compared to their behavior at the study start. The reason for the increase in aggressive behavior was that children who played a lot of violent video games had an increase in aggressive thoughts: for instance, they were more likely to interpret an ambiguous act, like someone bumping into them, as hostile.Children and adolescents who play a lot of violent games change over time, they start to see aggressive solutions as being more reasonable," ways to respond to conflict or frustration. it has an additive effect.violent games directly reward violent behavior, such as by awarding points or by allowing players to advance to the next game level. In some games, players are rewarded through verbal praise, such as hearing the words "Nice shot!" after killing an enemy. It is well known that rewarding behavior increases its frequency. (Would you go to work tomorrow if your boss said you would no longer be paid?) In TV programs, reward is not directly tied to the viewer's
Hundreds of studies have been done to determine whether violent video games will really make juveniles more violent. Randomized experiments were used in several studies to examine the short-term effect of violent video games (Anderson and Berkowitz et al. 90). In these studies, children were randomly assigned to play violent or nonviolent video games and then were observed when given an opportunity to be aggressive. The result was that children who played violent video games usually behaved aggressively.
One of the biggest controversial cases among parents and children is, whether to allow them to play violent video games. Many people often assume that these intense games have a direct correlation to becoming a violent person. While many people agree with this, the research is not 100% accurate. This makes it very hard to find proof that a violent video game is one of the leading causes of a violent person. We are often blaming these games for a more internal complex problem.
Video games have become very influential on children and adults (Stafford, 1999). With violent video games humans are more prone to act aggressively, to have aggressive thoughts and become numb towards violence (Harding, 2009). Apart from these they are
Another experiment to study the effects of playing violent video games on aggressive behavior was created by Craig Anderson and Karen Dill. In this experiment there were two games chosen, Wolfenstein 3D, a violent video game in which your goal
This article is a very useful source. Is useful because it answers the question, “Do violent video games cause an increase in aggression.” The question is answered thoroughly by the author because they cited recent studies, examples, and peer reviewed or scholarly sources that all concluded that violent video games cause an increase in aggression. The author is objective because they countered their argument by stating that

According to Hollingdale and Greitemeyer (2014), Video games that are violent are identified as very popular games that are played by the consumers. There is a concern that violent video games may pose a public health risk due to the levels of aggression due to the effects of the video games. In a cross sectional studies it has been found that there is a positive correlations with real life and video game aggression. Also in longitudinal studies shows that playing violent video games constantly it can predict that there may be later aggression even after controlling for initial levels of aggression. Experimental studies have showed that playing the video game is a factor of an increase level of
The purpose of this paper is to provide a critical review of a recent study examining the effects of violent video games on aggressive behavior in young children. Let me first provide a brief summary of the study. (a) The hypothesis is that violent video games cause aggression in young children. (b) The target population is young children. (c) The samples are young school age children and the sample sizes are sixty children separated into two groups with 30 children being in the experimental group and 30 children being in the control group. (d) The independent variable is violent video games and the dependent variable is aggression. (e) The result of the experiment were
The question: Does playing violent video games increase aggressive behavior in children? The answer: No clue. So how do we discover the answer? The best two methods of study for accurate and more conclusive results are naturalistic observation and (insert other form of study).
Video games have been around for over 60 years and are still evolving over time. But just how did these video games advance over these 60 plus years? According to our research, video games started out in the 1950’s-1960’s with basic technology such as low quality graphics, basic controls, and third person play. But from the 2000’s on, video games evolved from basic technology to more advanced technology such as high quality graphics, more advanced controls, and first person play.
“Recent contents analyses of video games show that many as 89% of games contain some violent contents” (Gentile, Lynch, Linder, Walsh 3). More than half of video games being sold around the world contain some form of violence. All of the violence involved in the video games being played by children is a pattern leading to aggression. Aggression can be caused by many things; however, violent video games are the main cause of aggression in young adults. “If a child began playing violent video games at a young age, then he might think that violence in real life is the same as the game violence and that it doesn’t have a real impact on others” (Gilad, Alto 1). Thinking that violence in the virtual world is the same as in the real world is the first step to showing aggression. Aggression in children caused by video games is the biggest effect parents and researchers worry about. Violent video games teach children that shooting and killing people are
The effect of violent video games on children’s behavior has been the major concern of numerous researchers over the last several decades. Indeed, a great number of researches conducted by psychologists show that regular exposure to violent video games has both long-term and short-term negative effects on a player’s behavior. Aggressiveness and lack of empathy are considered to be two main outcomes of constant playing games with violent content. However, it should be noted that the content is not the only criteria that should be taken into account when measuring games’ effects on behavior. Indeed, much attention should be paid to the difficulty of games and time spent on playing. Thus, a brief overview of studies concerning the violent video games effect and those disproving this idea along with the analysis of other factors affecting children’s behavior such as moral standards and family environment will show that violent video games are not principal factors that affect children’s behavior and cause child violence.
The results from the above-mentioned experiment found that after participants played a violent video game, the behavior was perceived as a nonaggressive behavior and not an aggressive behavior. In contrast, playing the violent video games in the study led to negative scores over playing the neutral game. The experiment suggested that playing violent video games may alter the perception of a participant’s daily life aggressive behavior, which may influence real aggressive behavior (Greitemeyer, 2013).
There has been a lot of factors linked to child aggression. One of biggest factors is children playing violent video games. Although video games are commonly used by children there can be negative effects when introduced to violent video games. Recent studies have shown a correlation between violent video games and the behavior of young children. Violent video games influence children's behavior because their attitudes become more aggressive, the availability of violent games has become very easy for children , and with the help of technology the graphics of the video games make the game look identical to real life.
Psychologists of Iowa State University have conducted a study, where the study shows that "brief exposure to violent video games can cause a reduction in normal physiological reactivity to images of real violence." One of the researches Dr. C. Anderson has said that children play very “playful, fun, cartoonish forms of violence” and what is important to know is that, most of the violent games do not show what consequences can it lead to when kids while playing kill an animal, beat and kill people, use and abuse of alcohol or drugs, disrespect the law. Gentile & Anderson (2003) state that playing video games may increase aggressive behavior because violent acts are continually repeated throughout the video game. This process of repeating in huge amounts is considered as an effective teaching method. (Add)
