Abstract An essential component of leadership is to articulate and exemplify the organization's core values. These values must be clear, compelling, and repeated. The leader must both "walk the talk" and inspire his/her colleagues within the organization to also live these values. Values are at the core of individual, group or organizational identity. Values are relatively enduring conceptions or judgments about what is considered to be important to an organization. Identifying these values that drive the cultural arena put clarity in what an organization is attempting to achieve, and in recognizing this can make the necessary changes within to align the values properly. By not being clear on strategic initiatives will ultimately place major gaps in the bridge that is trying to be built in the first place. Authentic leaders create healthy enterprises for the long term and almost without exception, emerging leaders have solid values and a sense of purpose. We are looking to make a difference, to contribute to a worthwhile cause through our work and to find a reasonable balance between our work and home lives. In addition, to work where we trust the leaders and share a common set of values is essential to the chemistry involved in organizational leadership. “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully” (Romans 12:6-8, 1984, NIV). Leaders are defined by their values and character. The values
Leadership is, and always has been, a vital aspect of social and economic constructs. It is essential to the survival of societies, industries, organizations, and virtually any group of individuals that come together for a common purpose. However, leadership is difficult to define in a single, definitive sense. As such, theories of leadership, what constitutes a great leader, and how leaders are made have evolved constantly throughout history, and still continue to change today in hopes of improving upon our understanding of leadership, its importance, and how it can be most effective in modern organizational cultures.
Values and ethics are essential in the workplace. It establishes how a company is run and remains profitable. Leaders are the key to demonstrating and creating the organization’s culture, ethics and values. It has to start at the top of the organization including the Chief Executive officer, board and owners. Leaders’ internalization and manifestation of the values in how they operate have a great influence on the employees. Every organization must start with a foundation, a code of conduct, code of ethics and a statement of values ( Ferrell, O.C., John Fraedrich, and Linda Ferrell).
The values of the organization express its culture and act as guiding tenets for influencing thoughts and behaviors. Values define the character of the team. As a growing debate, the question at hand is whether great leaders are born with specific leadership traits, or if one can be taught certain traits over time. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking, intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess. Within this paper, I will examine the overall concept of leadership traits, while observing the traits that were, or can be associated with successful leaders.
Values are significant because they subconsciously shape our behavior on a day to day basis. A good leader value his family as much as his organization. I care about all the people in my organization peers and subordinates alike. The atmosphere in my work environment should feel like a family. It is vital to laugh and have fun while you doing your job. This is how you boost your Soldiers moral and motivation in your organization. As longest I have this value in my life I know I can better serve my organization.
A large amount of work has gone into studying, researching, and developing models of leadership. There have been numerous models put forth, examined, applied, and either used or discarded. However, after all this work, there is still not one 'perfect' model or method of leading. Every situation and group is different, therefore a good leader must be flexible. A good model of leadership is one that incorporates different models into one that understands that the only constant is change. Therefore, my model of leadership will be based primarily upon flexibility.
They take the necessary actions to help individuals reach objects. Finally, trust is a big one. Showing trust to employees helps develop credibility. It helps build confidence in your ability to manage a team (Economy, 2015). Team members are watching leaders and they watch their character and see if their behavior reflects their work. With that being said, core values are a must with an effective leader to establish credibility. Some questions that help clarify one's professional values are, how am I at my best and worst, What do I want for my life, What do I think is the best way to work with others (Griffith & Dunham, 2015).
