Overview
There are many ways to define leadership, but perhaps the most laconic as well as accurate definition is presented in Peter G. Northouse's Leadership: Theory and Practice book (Northouse, 2013, p.5): "Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal". Individuals, engaged in leadership, use influence to solve challenges, which the groups under their leadership face, in order to succeed in their common goals.
In Leadership: Theory and Practice Peter G. Northouse examines various leadership styles and also looks at the concept of leadership from different perspectives. As a future leader I used Northouse's book to explore my leadership styles and ways to apply them in …show more content…

This resulted in a rapid drop in quality and customer dissatisfaction in November 2013 (Walters, 2013). These challenges continued throughout the rest of 2013 and in 2014, and currently a much larger challenge is emerging: TRWI might be shut down completely. The project needs better leadership to survive and gain back customer's trust.
My Leadership Styles
A project with challenges as serious as the ones of TRWI needs a leader that would help change and transform the people that are part of it. It also needs a leader who could address these particular situations properly. Therefore, I think, that TRWI needs a transformational leader (Northouse, 2013, p.185) and a situational leader (Northouse, 2013, p.99).
After thoroughly studying the book Leadership: Theory and Practice by Peter G. Northouse, I have come to a conclusion that transformational leadership style is the one that appeals to me the most (Northouse, 2013, p.185). Transformational leadership is about changing and transforming people, it is concerned with all the possible aspects involved in such process: employees' emotions and motives, satisfaction of their needs and explanation of the long-term goals. Transformational leadership handles equally well one-on-one interactions as well as influencing organizations as a whole.
