Leadership style
Hello, my name is Ann-Marie Cameron. Like most of us we attend college and we do not have the luxury of choosing our course, so the reason I am taking this course is because my advisor said it was a requirement for my degree program.
I have never had a leadership position, and for me, that is wonderful, because the world is not ready for a thinker or person like me, you see I tend to always think outside the box and voice my opinion no matter what, and I also tend to speak my mind in a very professional way to my superiors. Most of the organizations that I have been fortunate to work for have

196-197). Here is an example, let’s say for this style I might want to conduct an investigation as to issues or concerns of our organization. I might, from time to time not just ask my staff members, but I might also ask stakeholders, or other government agencies that we acquired resources from to get their feedback on how we are doing, responding, what areas we have problems with, or how we are functioning before I make any changes on my own. The feedback will be helpful, because after all these are residents of the community that we service, and they will have valuable information that can help with any improvement of my …show more content…
17), and allow negotiation with other agencies effectively and quickly in regards disaster or crisis by focusing and completing the task or goals at hand.
In conclusion, I would prefer the Participative style since it would help us to meet the goals for our organization by having everyone’s involvement. This way we can improve our personal development, which will help us to create an organization that will withstand positive changes, because with numerous people deciding what to do together it just helps to make better decisions than just having one person doing it
Leadership comes with great responsibility, I personally have never experience being a leader. However, I believe that I don’t need to be a leader to be successful, instead I am always willing to work hard with other people and achieve any goal as a whole(team). Although, I consider myself as a great problem solver, and also very responsible according to the effort I put in every little thing that I do. In the past, I have helped the leaders organize and help them to achieve a goal. I gave my hundred percent in anything I do.
A time I held a leadership position was this year for DECA. I was an involved member of DECA as a freshman, and I had been thinking of running for the vice president position as a sophomore. What really solidified my reservations was when the DECA teacher, Mrs. McGhee, asked me to run for an office. She told me that she noticed I was an invested member and that I would be a good asset to the board. I was so thankful she made this comment because that position in DECA was one of the things that really sparked my interest in leadership, and it helped me to learn more about how I lead. I was stressed at first because I was the first underclassman to ever be in a DECA officer position. When I showed up to the first officer meeting the next year,
Throughout the entire course of this class, I have been asked to fill out different self-assessments related to whatever topic or approach to leadership Peter Northouse (2013) was discussing in his book Leadership Theory and Practice. Each one of these self-assessments were intended to help me in discovering who I was as a person and a leader. Some of the leadership self-assessments included the Least Preferred Coworker Measure from the Contingency Theory chapter, the Leader-Member Exchange Questionnaire from the Leader-Member Exchange Theory chapter, and the Servant Leadership Questionnaire from the chapter that discussed Servant Leadership. Many of these questionnaires I found to be very effective in helping me discover more about my personality traits and leadership style.

Being a leader comes easily to myself, I have held various leadership positions throughout high school and middle school. I was honored to lead and be captain for every team I was a part of. I was captain of my middle school soccer team when I was younger, and captain of my premier soccer team as well. I was also the first lone captain ever named to my high school soccer team, which I held with great pride and honor. I find myself very comfortable leading groups because of the amount of experience I have with being a leader.

The leadership positions that I hold include being a captain of the football team, a co-chair of the National Honor Society, and a co-chair for the Black Awareness Society for Education. Holding these positions has been both a honor and a struggle. Having so many responsibilities at the same time was a daunting task at first, but as the years progressed, I became more and more accustomed to the task.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned about the theoretical foundation of leadership and management. From various leadership styles to numerous learning tools have all aided in shaping me to become an effective leader not only in the health care profession, but everyday life as well. Through utilizing these tools, I have managed to put them into actions through working individually and in teams which has helped me to learn more about myself and the type of leader I am. Throughout this action plan I will reflect on my definition of leadership, what I’ve learned about myself in the capacity to demonstrate leadership, my leadership strengths and weaknesses and three action steps that will help me to develop my leadership in the future.
I have held numerous leadership roles, such as being captain of the volleyball team all four years of high school. I believe that having this experience demonstrates my ability to be a leader in a group of my peers. I also was an orientation leader for three years where I was showing new students the ins and outs of our school. This experience will help me when I would be training new employees.
Prior to read all the articles and the book, I did not regard myself as having any leadership position because I believed that to be a leader you need to have a title. Moreover, in my opinion leaders were people that exerted power over someone else. However, after reading the book You Don’t Need a Title to be a Leader, by Mark Sanborn my definition of leadership changed. According to Mark Sanborn (..), “leaders are people that inspire and influence others, coordinate efforts and work with others to achieve goals, affect the quality of others experiences, and shape their life and carriers (p.).” Through this point of view, I can consider myself as being a leader in many aspect of my life. I am a leader as a nurse when a coordinate care
A large part of this position is speaking with absolute strangers which intimidated me initially, but I quickly realized that if I want to become a better leader that I would have work with all types of people whether they are my friends or total strangers. From taking on this responsibility I became extremely skilled at talking to parents, and public speaking. When I spoke to parents I had to make sure what I was saying was clear and succinct. Furthermore, from this position I learned how to troubleshoot problems and instead of reaching out for help from my elders I wanted to figure out problems on my own and be more self sufficient so I can take my skills such as being decisive, but also having humility which are very important to have as a leader. Before this experience, I always just thought of leaders as camp counselors who have different colored shirts than everyone else, but in fact that is not true. As a leader you have to have the same colored shirt as your peers because you have to work with them, and if you put yourself on a pedestal then the people you are leading will not want to cooperate with you, but if you are humble you are listening to others ideas, and admit you do not know all the
Choose one of the following two assignments to complete this week. Do not do both assignments. Identify your assignment choice in the title of your submission.
As for leadership positions I have held I believe among student body president, being a representative of my youth group to the church, and being a high school soccer captain has taught me the most. Last year as a co captain for our team I helped lead us to the state finals. This had been a dream we had been working on for two years now. I help construct training sessions during the summer in hope of preparing us for that big day. Unfortunately we lost the final, but all was not lost.
As we know that, leadership is nothing. But the influencing flowers. Leadership includes three fundamental clusters of skills creating vision, garnering commitment to that vision, an managing progress toward the realization of that vision. powerful and effective leaders plays very vital role to reach the maximum production for any organization.
Chapter sixteen discusses various leadership theories which can implemented by leaders to achieve success. The choice of leadership theory differs from leader to leader as they possess different vision and way of managing. A theory isn 't always perfect in itself, it is the endless effort of the leaders which makes the theory a perfect one. Two approaches of leadership that I prefer are Situational Leadership Theory and Servant Leadership Theory. Among many theories I prefer these two because I tend to practice those principles most of the time and I assume these are theories that I truly tend to continue in a long run.
