1. Introduction ‘‘Alton Towers Resort the UK’s No. 1 Theme Park’’ (Merlin Groups, 2015) has closed after the incident on the £18 million Smiler rollercoaster, which was launched in 2013. The horrific crash occurred on Tuesday 2nd July 2015 where 16 people were hit by an empty carriage, with 4 people being seriously injured (Simpson and Barnes, 2015). Due to the incident at Alton Towers the Resort was closed for 6 days, which left a massive impact on sales, shares and other businesses. The aim of this essay is to discuss how the recent incident at Alton Towers has affected their sales, shares and the overall microeconomics of other businesses. Firstly I will look at how the incident has affected the business in a range of ways and …show more content…
A business plan needs to consider all the long term and short term aspects which will impact on a business, such as customer trust as this cannot be brought by money. This incident also affected Alton Tower’s business plan as due to the theme park closing for a few days meant that there would be no visitors at the theme park resulting in a fall of sales for the theme park. This means that Alton Towers will need to reconsider their business plan according to the situation that they are in to be able to find new strategies and methods to attract more customers to come and visit the theme park so they are able to increase their sales again. When reconsidering their business plan, Alton Towers will need to go through specific stages such as, taking into consideration the aims and objectives of the business, identifying and evaluating the options available to them and then developing short term plans (Atrill, 2012). However finding …show more content…
The company possesses 99 attractions in 22 countries (Thomas and Armstrong, 2013), ranging from Legoland to Sea Life Centre and many more. Merlin Entertainments being such a large multinational company would not be affected by the Alton Towers incident as of 2012 they generated revenue of £1.1billon (Thomas and Armstrong, 2013). Henceforward the recent incident would not affect the business as they own multiple attractions worldwide, which they could promote to compensate and overcome sales lost from Alton Towers closure due to the

The construction of the theme park has started and it is going well. When they finish the park there is trash cans everywhere, just as Walt Disney had wished. In all of the theme parks he had robots so that every body would get the same exact experience. This was a life changing experience for all of the theme parks. Disney land was a huge success, and will be forever and when Disney passed away his legacy was carried on forever and they are still behold I gnnew parks to this
SeaWorld slowly decreasing attendance percent is a positive thing because that shows the company that they need to create new things to attract back their customers. The idea they have of creating new roller-coaster rides will do the
Something that I didn’t realize was that when you walk on tracks for train you are actually trespassing. Not only are you incredibly unsafe, you are actually breaking a law, and there could be serious consequences for doing that. Not only are the tracks dangerous, but not being smart on platform, and around the cars. Around the train cars is not a place to mess around. It is dangerous, and you should follow all of the rules that are posted. They aren’t posted to make our lives harder, they are posted to help us out, keep us safe, and make sure that no one gets hurt. I think that if we all just follow the rules that are posted, we use common sense, put our phones away, and are cautious, we can help each other out, and be safe in these situations. That is what I got out of the sources that I read, and listen to. In the video, “it's your choice,” there are many different stories about tragedies and other sad stories. I didn’t realize how serious these injuries, and accidents can be. I thought it was very interesting that when a train hits a car, it’s like a car running over a soda can. I also thought it was very sad all the stories that the people told about their loved
Since the ocean affected by the spill, the cockroaches from the sea became unhealthy/ill and the number of fishes decreased each day. Many businesses started to go down which made employees lose their job.
By recommending, as averred above, a very aggressive price discrimination strategy for Merlin’s as part of its pricing strategy for this project, and as a means to differentiate the theme park’s offerings from those of rivals, Camelot and Alton Towers. But this will be accompanied by other marketing changes. Rival Camelot currently charges £24 for adults’ entry to its theme park, the same price for children over a meter tall, and £15 for senior citizens. Alton Towers charges £31.68 for an adult ticket, £24.48 for a child, and does not offer a senior
Busineses from car dealers to retail outlets were being hurt, according to state and federal officials. The spill was having a ‘multiplier effect’ on charter boats, vacation property owners, and tugboat ownrs among others, who were seeing customers cancel contracts. Used car sales were off twenty percent because potential customers were holding off on spending out of fear of the spill’s impact,
It is 9:30pm and an unscheduled fright train makes its way down some train tracks at a speedy pace, unaware of the circus currently boarding it’s train only several feet ahead. The circus crew panics, as they become aware of the locomotive heading directly towards their most famous and enormous attraction, that stood 12 ft high, 14 ft long, 18 ft around and was a total seven tonnes in weight. A crew member blows an emergency whistle in hopes of stoping the fright train before anything bad could happen but sadly it was too late. BANG. Amongst the screeching sound of the train, a thud is heard and the circus’s smaller attraction is knocked and thrown several feet to the side. Following the screams of on lookers the train comes to an immediate halt as it
While Demographics do not play a huge role the economy does. The economy has been far from stellar in the last few years and with a poor economy businesses suffer. Consumers cut back on their spending and cut back on vacations. So, with the turn in the economy for the worst what impact did this have on Disney, the most successful theme park in the United States?
Amusement parks are appealing not only for the food, lights, and opportunities to win prizes, they also provide something that many of us crave at a very basic level: the adrenaline rush that accompanies a good scare. Amusement parks are a perfect place for this odd desire. They have any number of rides that can give you a scary experience, make you think that you are in real danger, and then let you place your feet back on the ground after it’s all over and you are no worse-for-wear after the experience. The vast majority of rides at local and travelling amusement parks and fairs are indeed safe enough to provide thrills with no danger, but there are exceptions.
Altogether there are four theme parks are Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, the parks are filled with rides, restaurants, fun activities and interactive music-themed shows. The shows include fireworks, parades with the famous Disney characters, where Magic Kingdom’s reenacts children stories, Epcot Park is where all
Four years later, the theme park finally saw a record-breaking year where 11.7 million guests visited (Guyot, 2001). In more recent years, the number of guests visiting the theme park seems to be dropping. In 2015, park attendance at the theme park dropped 4.5% according to a Global Attractions Attendance report (Lockett, 2015). In its 2016 annual report, the Walt Disney Company stated that Disneyland Paris saw park attendance decrease in 2016 (p.26). Low attendances numbers for the theme park has led to a lot of financial issues over the years for the theme park in Paris.
I know for sure that everyone has at least been to a Disney World Theme Park or knows someone else who has been. The industry of theme parks has also been quite profitable for the Walt Disney Company. The slogan of it being the happiest place in the world really draws people from all over the world to experience it! I can say from personal experience, it really is a very magical place! The Walt Disney Theme Parks have been a successful industry for the Walt Disney Company and continue to draw over 17 million people each year.
This report examines the current state of the theme park industry and how TRC, Inc. can expand into the state of Florida. Florida already has theme parks that range from Disney World to Busch Gardens, zoos and aquariums. Vega Consulting group will analyze and investigate future possibilities for TRC, Inc.
