The American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics provides many professional traits that can be incorporated to an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals such as compassion and respect, advocacy, accountability for nursing practice and participation in advancement of the nursing career (Cherry, 2011). Compassion is a very important aspect of the nursing profession. It would be very difficult to be a nurse without being compassionate. Nurses demonstrate compassion and respect daily in their work by actively listening to patients’ and family members’ problems and concerns and by empathy when appropriate. Advocacy is a nursing trait constantly used by the entire interdisciplinary team. Nurses advocate for patients’ right of autonomy for decision making in regards to their care, treatments and procedures. Also, nurses are in the best position to serve as a bridge between the patient and the interdisciplinary team. Accountability is so essential in the nursing profession. Nurses are accountable for their own nursing practices and for our patients.
Nurses follow the morals of acting honestly, fairly, and ethically while caring for the needy. They must hold colleagues to the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism. Additionally, nurses must show accountability in providing quality, safe care towards their patients. This is the core value of integrity, which nurses should uphold at all times. Registered Nurses are regulated across the United States by organizations such as the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses Association. Driving through town, it is noted how healthcare is changing. New chiropractic clinics are opening up throughout the different sections of town, but there are assumptions what each does and how the clinics are related to other healthcare facilities. An opportunity arose where an interview with a chiropractor became possible. Information that was similar and different when comparing to a Registered Nurse (RN), came into the picture. Areas that will be covered during the interview include; education and training, professional responsibilities needed to upkeep license, roles and or responsibilities when working with other healthcare professionals, human values that the individuals believed should be part of a patient interaction, values and or ethics that is expected from the other members of the team, problems that cause a team to crumble, ethical dilemma regarding a member of the team and the patient, and finally prevention of health inequalities.

The title of my article is Exploring the moral distress of registered nurses. In today’s healthcare system nurses experience moral distress on a regular basis. This study is considered quantitative because the researcher used survey methods to identify types and frequencies of patient care situations that provokes moral distress. Data was collected over 4 months, surveys were returned to principle investigator and clinical managers. The data was collected by using an instrument called Moral Distress Scale (MDS). An instrument that has established reliability and validity. MDS measures two components of moral distress; intensity and frequency related to clinical practice. Open ended questions were asked to gain more detailed data. The researcher reduced data to numerical findings that are expressed in charts. I chose this article because nurses face moral distress on a daily basis. Unable to recognize and manage moral distress can lead to nurses being burned out, high turnover rate and finally leaving the nursing profession all together. This article was written because there is a gap of communication between organizations and staff members. Organizations need to provide basic training to staff members to recognize and manage moral distress. Another purpose of this article is to have nurses take responsibility for their education. Nurses need to be proactive and seek their manager’s help to build strong emotional
