Under the clear skies of Alabama, hundreds of chickens freely roam the several acres of grassy plains. Such an image would suggest a natural way of raising an ideal chicken for human consumption. But undercover investigations bring out the dark truth of factory farming. Mercy for Animals, a nonprofit organization, exposes companies such as, Tyson, who advertise their products in the naturalist form but fail to acknowledge the reality. Discoveries from undercover investigations reveal the, “abusive handling,” the, “physical alterations like teeth clipping,” the, “misuse of antibiotics to compensate for unsanitary conditions”(“Factory Farms”), and many more cruel and secretive procedures. Several consumers perceive factory farms as advertised, but few are aware of the suffering endured by farm animals. The fact that, “99% of farm animals in the U.S. are raised in factory farms,” proposes the question: Do consumers have a clear understanding of what goes on behind the walls of large industrial farms? Animal welfare has more than often been a debatable topic. The lack of a clear definition has caused disagreement on what can be categorized as good welfare and what constitutes as bad welfare. Between the disagreements and several definitions of animal welfare three notable concerns that are usually looked over include, “those that involve the biological functioning of the animal, those that involve how the animal is feeling,” and, “those that involve the ability of the animal
Ever since a young age, I have been a passionate animal enthusiast. I cannot image a life without a dog by my side. Animals are not just pets, or food, or part of the environment. They are intelligent creatures and deserve to be treated as such. Animals have evolved just as we have. The evolution theory even says humans evolved from primates. So why do animals not have rights? They have a brain and can learn and grow, just as we can. It can also be argued that animals have a soul. I believe animals not only have dignity, but they also have rights.
Her name was Snow White, beautiful eyes with a smile so bright, perked up ears that rose to the sky and beautiful black and white fur that made you feel safe when needed someone to talk to or even a hug. Since birth she was loyal, since birth she was faithful, but the reality of it all is that, not every owner knew how to take care of her. An animal is known to be more than a companion and our savior of the night, which is why we should understand the reality behind animal welfare, but in actuality, we don’t. But, they’re some habits to create a positive impact on animal welfare. From taking your pet to the veterinarian every six months to making sure your animal feels loved and appreciated by giving them attention, they are a lot more ways
Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today’s society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it.
Animal testing has been one of the issues that people are fighting overtime because of its moral. Even though some results of tests are successful on people, many people are still fighting for the animal’s rights. They believe that animals should have their own rights to live a free life where they belong, just like their species. In scientists point of view, animals have been one of the main subjects to test on, but a lot of them are currently looking forward to use and develop alternatives for the cruel act of animal testing.
The deeper I dig into animal abuse , the more I want to become a vegetarian. But it is not easy as it seems. The things that I have seen and read makes me sick to my stomach. To watch a hopeless cow, get whipped , is sickening. Watching baby Chicklets die in a big machine , brings tears to my eyes. Millions of animals every day die cruel deaths , and I no longer want to be an accomplice to the crimes. While it may be hard to retrain myself , I should and intend to just stop eating meat.
Why would anyone abuse an animal? Animal abuse is rather common, you could be doing it even if you don’t think you are. There are many animals that deal with abuse or neglect, about 1,423 animals a year. That’s in the U.S. alone. Animals are living creatures, just like you, and they’re not cheap. Neglect is another version of abuse, and it can come in many forms. Neglect could be starving them, not giving them medical care, not paying attention to them, etc, etc. Animals are just like humans, I mean, sure they can’t make their own meals, and they can’t drive a car, but that doesn’t mean they have fewer rights than you do. If an animal is abused or neglected the animal will be taken and the owner should be charged. If someone abuses an
Animal rights is a very complicated issue. It’s not fair that they get tortured in a very inhumane way. Believe it or not that animals feel pain just like humans because we’re just a different species of animals. “Human demand for meat has led to a quicker production for demand, which means the meat industry production line doesn’t stop for anything, especially sick, disabled and not effectively stunned animals.” (Animal Rights) There are many cases of animals being mistreated and countless videos of them being tortured, getting kicked also bleeding to death. “Animals that are not stunned correctly are still butchered even when they are still conscious.” (Animal Rights) When eating meat, you’re “kidneys work 3x times hard than the kidneys of a vegetarian. There are some cases of retailers rejecting the meat because of the condition when delivered.” (Animal Rights)
A social issue impacting our community and many others around the world, is the epidemic of homeless pets. According to ASPCA, “Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.” This statistic only seems to be accounting for dogs and cats, which make up a large number of animals entering shelters, but definitely not all of them. Livestock, reptiles, birds, small mammals, and even fish should not be forgotten. I have personally seen all of these animals end up in shelters. Care for the animals that end up in county animal shelters comes out of our taxes, so everyone paying taxes is affected. Because shelters are receiving so many animals, finding one with the promise of rehoming rather than euthanasia and willing take more animals can be hard. Sometimes people simply cannot keep their pets and must find another place for them to go. A death sentence for a beloved pet is not an opinion most families, or individuals, want to choose. The ones who are most affected by this are the animals. Animals are often put in crowded shelters, euthanized due to lack of room or funds in shelters, left to live on the streets, etc. This problem is furthered by animal breeders, people accidently allowing their animal to breed, and people purchasing animals on a whim without doing proper research on the care required, and later having to surrender the animal.
What is animal cruelty? Not everyone fully understands. It is the cruel action when a person inflicts pain or does not care for an animal responsibly. It can also be for killing animals for food or for their fur. The viewpoints are held by jurisdictions throughout the world.’ (Anonymous). Therefore, in an ideal world, animal cruelty would not exist. However, this is not a perfect world, and animals, domesticated and wild, are abuse and beaten every single day. For example, dog fighting described as “The act of baiting two dogs against one another for entertainment or gain” (Evans et al., 1998 Dog fighting; A nasty work). It is just a horrific and devastating experience that no dog should never go through and it is all just because they were not receive love but where train to fight.
In the United States, animals are abandoned, beaten, and fighting for their survival every day. Forced to live in unhygienic conditions with no water or food, they don't have very much hope as they live out their days lacking the empathy or consideration that they deserve. Some are discovered and rescued, given the opportunity to experience how magnificent their lives can be; others aren't so fortunate. In order to change as country, we must stick up for these mistreated animal's rights and seriously correct the mistakes of cold-hearted people who abuse them. It is up to us to stand up for these creatures who lack a voice, because who will if we do not?
Imagine a white fluffy puppy with one blind eye, now imagine him being killed because no one adopted him. Imagine a small calf that was just born, killed for veal for a restaurant down the street. A furry black fox, killed and skinned for a small fur coat. A lion at the zoo, killed because he ran into the glass and cracked it, just because humans got scared. Humans will put them in fights. We kill them for food. We put wild animals on display. However they do so much more for mankind than we give them credit too, they are used in therapy, they rescue us and help in drugs exploitation. Do over 2,750 trillion deaths really justify the need for humans? Do people really stand above the moral laws and are able to do these horrible things to
Rain falling loudly through the holes of the tin roof splashing on Shadow’s face, while the animals were sleeping. Locked up to a chain, can hardly move, along with another dog named, Benji. They are in an extremely small space. Moving the wrong way could cause a serious injury due to the nails drilled in from the outside. In this small, dangerous cage there is no water as the bowl is overturned. These animals have matted fur, even through the coat, spine and ribs could easily be felt. Shadow’s chain has become embedded in his neck. These animals are victims of animal cruelty. Animal cruelty, also known as animal abuse or animal neglect is the intentional infliction by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal,

Animal cruelty is defined as a crime of inflicting pain, suffering, or death on an animal beyond necessary means for normal discipline. This crime comes in many different forms; it is not only limited to neglect and domestic animal abuse, but it can also be seen in today’s “entertainment” industry. Although it is frequently overlooked, animals are being mistreated in various famous places that attract large crowds: SeaWorld, zoos, and the circus. The use of animals for entertainment purposes should unequivocally constitute animal cruelty.
Many companies, like McDonalds, lie about what actually goes on at their farms. “Free range” “Cruelty free” “Killed in a humane way” Those are just some the things that consumers are told and believe everyday. Saying thank you to the animal before munching on its flesh and bones doesn’t excuse what happens to them. The abuse and torture animals go through at factory farms isn’t fair and needs to be stopped immediately.
