It takes a big act of courage in a lot of sticky situations. In “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry” by Mildred D. Taylor I believe Stacey Logan followed his convictions the most out of any character when he made the plan to stop the bus, helped TJ after he was beat up and framed by the Simms boys, and taking the blame when TJ cheated on the test. Stacey was a 12-year-old boy who is loyal throughout the entire book. Stacey knew that there would be many consequences for the things he did. Would you want revenge on someone who soaked you in mud while you were walking to school? In chapter 1 the Logan children wore their nicest clothes to for the first day of school. While the Logan kids were walking to school Little Man states ,”Ya’ll go ahead and …show more content…
Stacey was tired of being splashed ,so he was going to protect himself and his siblings.(Taylor page 45-51) Cassie Logan says ,” But Ma it just isn’t fair.” Then later (Taylor page 45-51)Cassie now says ,” If that bus driver would just slow down Ma.” In Cassie quotes it explains that they are still getting splashed by the bus in chapter 3. Stacey comes up with a plan to stop the bus driver and get revenge. The Logan kids started digging a hole on the side of the road. The kids also were getting revenge on the bus driver because one of the days ,the bus driver had pushed the kids into a ditch that was filled with cold and muddy water, which they were not happy about it. The next day the bus did hit the hole which caused the bus to brake down on the side of the road. The white kids did end up having to walk to school for …show more content…
Well, TJ was framed by two white children named RW and Melvin Simms. TJ had his eyes on a pearl-handled pistol. RW, Melvin, and TJ broke into the mercantile and stole the pearl-handled pistol and then RW killed Mr.Barnett.Then they framed TJ and beat him up.He came straight to Stacey’s house because he knew that Stacey was loyal to him ,and because he was scared of getting beat up again by the Simms brothers. The quote shows that Stacey offered to go get big Ma to help TJ. TJ denied the the help though.Cassie and Stacey woke up to the sound thunk thunk and they looked and TJ was beating on the door to be let inside. (Taylor page 249)¨Cassie you can go.¨ Cassie and the other kids woke up and Stacey says that Cassie and the other children can not go.TJ made it inside and laid down on the bed and told Stacey what had happened.Stacey says ,¨Let me go get Big Ma, she’ll know what to do.¨(Taylor page 248). TJ and Cassie then took TJ over to his house. Cassie and Stacey were hiding behind some bushes at TJ’s house ,and soon the Wallace’s and the Simms boys showed up and broke in the Avery’s windows ,and started beating the Avery’s. Stacey and Cassie were still behind the bushes. Two more cars then showed up and TJ’s dad was through against the window and they were going to kill TJ ,but his mom told them to kill her. Luckily, no one was killed. All the kids were with Cassie and Stacey ,and Stacey told all of them to run
The students at some point have to show courage, if someone is being bullied, mistreated, or just sad. Courage is showing bravery and just doing what's right. In Mildred Taylorś book, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry. Stacey has to show courage, when he took the blame for T.J. cheating.. Stacey also had to show courage by, coming up with the idea of digging the trench, and Stacey got everyone involved with the idea of digging the trench, for the bus to fall in.
Figurative language is used to emphasize Cassie and her emotions in her experiences and interactions and how she learns from that. Epiphany is used to convey how both Cassie and Stacey learned from their mistakes and simultaneously grew from said mistakes. Many other characters in this book go through an experience they could learn from, but don’t learn from it (e.g. T.J.). But, Stacey and Cassie, thanks to their parents they learn from their mistakes and experiences and get a life lesson along with it. Taylor's book displays a variety of themes but the most prominent theme is that making mistakes is part of life, and is okay, but it is important that you learn from those mistakes and grow from
TJ gets himself in trouble with R.W. and Melvin Simms, two white brothers. The boys only want TJ around so they have someone to put the blame on and make fun of him. When TJ wants a very nice handgun at the Barnett Mercantile, the Simms brothers fool him into thinking that his dream is about to come true. RW and Melvin convinced TJ to try to steal the gun. They were caught in the act and the brothers punished TJ horribly. TJ tapped on the Logans door in the middle of the night. Stacey and Cassie answered the door. They knew they had to help him despite the negative acts against their family. “Stacey? I whispered afraid of what he might do. As far back as I could remember, Stacey had felt a responsibility for TJ I had never really understood why. Perhaps he felt that even a person as despicable as TJ needed someone he could call “friend”, or perhaps he sensed TJ’s vulnerability better than TJ did himself. Stacey, you ain’t goin’ are you?... You go on back to bed Cassie. I’ll be alright.” (pg. 249) This quote is a prime example of Stacey’s courage. Stacey knows that helping TJ could get him in trouble or even killed. Stacey is a true friend, and a brave one too.
sayed some very negative things about Mama (On a accident). T.J. got mama fired because he went yappen his joules to the wrong people the Wallaces. Mama got fired because the school board and Mr.Granger came and saw that Mama was not teaching from the book and the book pasted over with paper. Stacey did not want to talk to T.J. because of what he did to Mama because Mama found T.J. cheating with cheat note on a test and Mama failed him. “Mama, her back straight and her eyes fixed on the men, answered, ‘Because all that’s in that book isn’t true.” (p.g 184) This quote means that Mama shows courage because she wasn’t afraid to talk back to the white men. Stacey could showed courage for Mama by he stop being friends with T.J., and Stacey could have stayed friends with T.J. but he would be taking T.J. side in stead of
Mildred D. Taylor's Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry is set during the Great Depression, in the rural areas of Mississippi. The majority of the people in this community are sharecroppers, who are greatly dependent on plantation farming. The Logan family is fortunate because they have a piece of land of their own, so unlike other black sharecroppers they do not have to be dependent on the whites. However, due to the sharp decrease in the price of the cotton crop the family have to work hard to keep it in their hands, whilst also providing food in order for them to survive. The situation is further worsened because of the severity of racism and segregation in the society. The Logans are one of the few families
Courage is when you are willing to do something above your comfort zone to show what you’re made of. In a novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred D. Taylor uses an example of a young girl named Cassie Logan , who is colored, that must stand up for her convictions despite many injustices against her and her family. Cassie proves her courage by protecting her little brother Little Man from getting in big trouble, facing her white enemy Lillian Jean Simms, and being helpful to T.J despite his actions against her family. Cassie made many choices that proved her sassiness and how outspoken she was. She loved her family and had deep respect for the land they lived on. During a time period when the word “equality” meant nothing to those who surrounded her, Cassie shows those who see her actions that she is willing to face the many consequences that lie before her with standing up for her beliefs.
Well Stacey Logan has, in this incident Stacey Logan had gotten very sick and tired of the white children bus that they take to school to stop splashing him and the other Logan children. The splashing's were an everyday thing and that just made him very aggravated. One day he decided to have all of the Logan children dig a trench across the road and they made it look like it was just washed away because it was raining that day so looked like it was just happen. When Stacey made the choice to go and get Cassie Logan (sister of Stacey Logan) he came to her school and said “Come on Cassie let's go get that bus back” Taylor on page 91. With what he just said he was trying to pursue Cassie to come with Stacey and the other Logan. After, they had gotten done road they had to run back to their school and Stacey then said “We got to get out of here before there (meaning white children) bus comes” Taylor this was from chapter 3 page 95. After they got done with their sacred duty that went back to school like nothing happen and they had went nowhere. This shows how Stacey courage is very strong and how he has a strong love for his
Did you know that you have been lied to? Time and time again, people in and out of fiction have told you things that aren’t exactly true, but you both knew it was a lie (a rather sarcastic one at that). This is an example of what is called irony— what results when the actual outcome differs from what was expected— and irony is something that is heavily featured in Mildred Taylor’s historical fiction novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. In this book Mildred Taylor’s use of irony helps to accomplish three main tasks: characterize the monochromatic cast of characters, elucidate and illuminate the main theme of the passage, creating, setting, and modifying the ambiance and mood of the various chapters.
Contrast and compare the ways in which the characters of David and Hammer Logan deal with the issue of prejudice in “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”
Stacey is a better friend because he is smarter than T.J which could prove useful against the JIm Crow era that they live in. Jeremy was brave for even hanging out with the Logans because his dad beat him. The author wrote,”C-cause I like yall”(page 49). This quote
Would you ever do something considered really bad when it was really just you bringing the justice? Well, Stacey did when he dug a hole in the rode. Now I know that doesn’t seem like such a bad thing to do, but it was a big hole and it’s purpose even bigger; get the white’s bus stuck. A quote to
“When the land was up for sell again, Grandpa had bought two hundred acres of it, and in 19I8, after the first two hundred acres had been paid off, he had bought another two hundred, It was goodrich land, much of it still virgin forest, and there was no debt on half of it. But there was a mortgage on the two hundred acres bought in 1918 and there were taxes on the full four hundred, and for the past three years there had not been enough money from the cotton to pay both and live on too.” In the novel Roll of thunder, Hear my cry is about a family of black people, They own 200 acres of land from a long time ago When their grandpa bought it. This is more than most black families have. This land is causing the logan family problems because Mr.
Courage to me means that you can get up and do something without being scared to do it. My courageous character in the book Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry is Cassie because she has showed lots of courage throughout the book. Cassie is a very courageous so 3 things she has done that was courageous is, When she stood up for Little Man, When she faced the rival with Lillian Jean Simms and when she helped T.J. out. Cassie is a very nice and caring person but she is also very brave and has lots of courage. All throughout the book she has showed courage.
“The real hero is the man who fights even though he is scared” (George S Patton). This quote can go with Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry what Papa did for the land, his family, and friends. If Papa did not get to these tasks then he probably would not be a big hero in the novel. Throughout the book I think that Papa could be considered a true hero in this novel for all the things he did. Papa was very generous, kind, and helpful to the family and he made the right decisions to be a true hero.
Everyone undergoes unpleasant experiences, but did you know that these experiences help you grow as a person? The historical drama novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, portrays the Logan family, and the hardships they must experience as a black family in the segregated South. There are four children in the Logan family: Little Man, Christopher-John, Cassie, and Stacey. One of Stacey’s friends is T.J. Avery, but T.J. later goes on to be “friends” with two older white boys, R.W. and Melvin Simms. R.W. and Melvin Simms also have a younger sister, Lillian Jean, a prideful and persnickety girl. One theme in this book is coming of age through pain and experience. The characters mature at school, the market, and when T.J. is caught
