For some people high school is a breeze, but for some it’s not. Sleeping Freshman Never Lie is a book about a boy named Scott and his first year of high school. His brother Bobby was never a good kid in school, so he didn’t have any advice to help him. He had no clue what to expect when walking into school the first day. Scott joined a lot of the school clubs including Student Council, the School Paper, and the Stage Crew. He had his two best friends with him all of the time until they started to go their own ways. When they went their separate ways he made different friends. He met Wesley and Lee, but these were people he would’ve never been friends with before. Lee was known to be really weird, and Wesley was scary to Scott. For someone who didn’t know what to expect about high school, he did a pretty good job handling everything. Bobby changed the most in Sleeping Freshman Never Lie because he went from acting tough to opening up about his personal problems, and he went from making bad decisions to switching his life around. …show more content…
Bobby had this huge secret that no one knew, so he acted extremely tough to hide this secret. Bobby hid this huge secret from his teachers by acting up in class. Once Bobby revealed to Scott that he couldn’t read, Bobby and Scott treated each other differently. “‘I learned that if I caused enough trouble, nobody would notice anything else. They never figured out how stupid I am’” (Lubar 225). This quote means with Bobby exposing this huge secret to Scott, Bobby could finally stop acting so tough around Scott. This also allowed him to become a more open person in
In this report, I will be summarizing the book, Lying on the Couch by Irvin D. Yalom. I will also be giving my personal opinions on this book and its ethical implications. In addition, I will be giving examples from National Association of Social Workers code of ethics, National Association for Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors, and National Human Services ethics and how they were violated in this story by the characters. I will also touch on the importance of self-care and creating clear boundaries in the helping profession.
When High School comes around, everyone goes through changes to their life. In Sleeping Freshman Never Lie there is a boy named Scott who is starting high school, and goes through many changes with his friends, family, and life. He meets up with his friends from middle school in the beginning of the year, but soon meets new people and has new friends, in this book many of the characters change and experience some of the same things as Scott. This book is a journey through his high school experience, and all the changes that happen in his life during his freshman year of high school. Wesley changed the most in Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie because he switched from being mean to a nice guy, and
“High school is going to kill me” (Lubar 32) said Scott on his first day of school. In Sleeping Freshman Never Lie, Scott started high school, which was not the only big change. He starts off school trying to win Julia’s heart, doing every activity she does. It doesn't work out too well though. Without knowing them Scott usually judged people on their appearance or how they acted. He also realized that his mom is acting pretty weird, and come to find out she is pregnant. Since Scott is having such a hard time in school he decides to write a journal for his new sibling. His friend group starts to change dramatically. His three best friends he would always thought he would have go off and do other things. Scott changed the most in Sleeping Freshman Never Lie because he became less judgemental, and made new friends.
In the second chapter, Scott during his first day learns he’s going to have a baby brother. While this can go along with the first day being important, this is still an important event on
Mouth changed the most in Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie because he went from talkative and being fearless, to being suicidal by the end. Mouth changed the most because at the starting of the book Mouth was the most talkative person their was. That was originally how they introduced Mouth into the book, as this bubbly talkative kid who loved to say the first thing that had popped into his head. "Hey Scottie, watcha think? High school. It’s the big time. Were in high school man, that's so cool. Man, that is so so so cool. That is soooooo cool"(Lubar 8). This quote supports my answer because it shows how excited Mouth was to start the school year. He was bouncing off of the walls about how excited he was that he was in high school with his friends

Only about 3,546,211 people survived the Holocaust. Adolf Hitler was the main leader of the Holocaust, he did this because of his discrimination of Jews. There were more than just Jews killed, there were gay people, priests, gypsies, people with mental or physical disabilities, communists, trade unionists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, anarchists, Poles and other Slavic peoples, and resistance fighters. The Holocaust happened between 1933 through 1945 in Germany and Poland. Night, is an autobiography written by Elie Wisel who was involved in the Holocaust. Auschwitz Death Camp, it is a video documentary of the death camp including Elie Wisel and Oprah Winfrey. The truth about the Holocaust to me is horrendous, all the torturing they had to go through

Directions: Read the article titled, “To Keep Teenagers Alert, Schools Let Them Sleep In” by Jan Hoffman. Answer the following questions AS THOROUGHLY AS POSSIBLE!
In Sleeping Freshman Never Lie David Lubar uses characterization to show the readers the dangers of stereotyping. Characterization is the a method an author uses to let readers know more about the character and their personal traits. David Lubar uses stereotypes of high school students to characterize his characters. Bobby is a character labeled as the loser older brother in the story. He fits the category because he drops out of college, loses every job he gets, and gets evicted from his apartment. However, Bobby is also seen as a good brother, he gives his younger brother, Scott, good advice on girls, and when he’s not busy he’ll take his little brother out racing cars. Another character David uses to stereotype was Lee. She was labeled

McLean, a philosophy professor, study that: “…young children may use the actions of others to determine what standards should be expected of their behavior…once adopted children will strive to achieve certain goals…” (Knowles, McLean 155). Bobby discovers more about his character after his fight: “Even after I’d swallowed all the blood, I kept licking my hands. I tore at the skin with my teeth. I wanted more.

As soon as i opened the doors of high schools, insecurity swept in like a cold wind. Everywhere I looked, students were achieving, what i thought at the time, was the impossible. Some of these kids had an ensemble of friends, seeming as if every corner they turned, would be someone new to greet them. Others would have scores and classes destined to take them to riches. Struggling my entire life in academics, i knew high school would be no different, but i had no idea that it would stab me much further deep than just a few low grades. The sanguine summer before freshman year, i had aspirations about high school, as if it were even remotely like the beloved hollywood film portrayed them. Nothing could have prepared me for the cesspool of insecurity i walked myself into to. As soon as i opened those doors, i knew i was in trouble.
By the time you are reading this you will be a senior in high school. This summer I read Sleeping Freshman Never Lie. From reading this novel, I’ve learned a lot of lessons to consider for my upcoming years at Pompano Beach High School. I’ve established two goals that I hope you will have accomplished by the time you are reading this.
Alarmingly startled by the amount of adolescents experiencing what could be described as a nightmare, and curious as to how many people close to us have felt it too, a handful of personal interviews, kept anonymous, was conducted to find out more of a general opinion. Seven subjects were interviewed. Some being kids in honors, AP programs, as well as kids who only partake in college prep classes. Kids participating in sports, and even individuals who had dropped out years before. A series of questions were asked such as their age, their high school, and if they plan on graduating, or in some cases have dropped out. Everyone was asked, regardless of high school status, if they have ever been in trouble, and their explanation, how they typically felt in a single school day, their overall opinion of high school, and if they would ever go back to do it again. The quotes gathered were horrific, yet powerful, in their brutal honesty.
