Spring 2015
April 24, 2015 Over the past semester there have been so many great things I have learned in this class. Since the start of my education at Southwestern Assemblies of God, I have looked forward to taking this course more than any other. I am glad I had the opportunity to take it with a knowledgeable and wise professor. Throughout my life, the concepts of management and leadership have always been intriguing. Prior to my time here at SAGU I attended a leadership school called Masters Commission USA in Lewisville, Texas. There I learned the basic principles of how to become an effective leader. Although I have had a small amount of training in the past, it has been amazing to learn under your teaching. Being an effective manager is a daunting task to say the least because of the weight it carries. I definitely feel more equipped after taking your course. The concepts I am going to discuss in this paper have been reiterated over the course of the semester and have changed the way I view management. These principles that have changed my perspective are: the idea that Jesus is the center of our success, the core of management is servant leadership, and finding the balance in being a goose, an eagle, and a turkey. These principles are the key to becoming a successful
Good management and leadership are essential for organizations to operate and additionally for the businesses to prosper. When businesses are well administered, they can function successfully and they can function effectively. Managers have exceptionally effective and strong plans, mangers have systematized structures, organizations, and they also assess effects. When businesses are appropriately directed, they acclimate to modifications in the situation and cultivate cultures that encourage obligation and improvement. Mutually good management and good leadership are essential to maintain organizational performance.

Throughout the book readers will be captivated by Maxwell’s extensive and influential experience in leadership. His ethically-centered foundational approach on developing leaders from a vast pool of professions is testament to his commitment to providing helpful information for personal and professional growth to everyone. Moreover, the book clearly denotes Maxwell has a thorough understanding of leadership as it relates to scripture and his simplifying the concept that religion can interact and agree with a defined definition, is masterful. The Bible makes it clear that human beings are endowed with both natural and spiritual gifts, and the distribution of those gifts differs in kind and degree and, perhaps, configuration as well. However, evidence abounds recipients who were given leadership gifts must dedicate themselves to growing their proficiency.

Within this assignment I will describe my understanding of the links between management and leadership, the skills and styles of management and leadership, the application of management and leadership theories in an organisational context and planning for the development of management and leadership skills.
It means maintaining core values, tackling each challenge calmly, and looking after your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual welfare. It means being fully present when handling difficult situations but not being fully absorbed in the day-to-day pressures” (Shaw, 2012, pg.64). This significant maintenance of Christian core values and beliefs will unquestionably enable a leader’s Christian faith to give him a sheltered perspective about what is important when addressing changing and complicated issues. I want to explain to AMC leaders that there are many significant biblical and strategic principles that make leadership a success in any marketplace. I will only list seven of them. They are: spirituality, resilience, communications, universal heart, transforming risks into opportunities, due diligence process, and working hard with
Henderson State University was known as “Henderson-Brown College” in the 1920’s. Originally founded as the Arkadelphia Methodist College in 1890, Henderson’s official name was then for the second time in its history changed to Henderson-Brown to honor Walter William Brown in 1911. Brown was Henderson’s friend and business partner. Looking through the yearbooks of this time period one could see a college filled with arts and ambitions. At the beginning of the decade Henderson-Brown had only eighteen students in its senior class, reaching a peak of only forty five seniors throughout the decade. Many buildings were featured at the beginning pages of the yearbooks, though a girl’s dormitory was never pictured. This subtle sexist attitude towards
Robert Banks and Bernice M. Ledbetter believe the subject of leadership to be one worth exploring, and they do so in their book much to our profit. In this short book, Banks and Ledbetter begin by presenting the overall question they want to answer: Do Christians' core convictions shape their views and practices of leadership or are they affected by wider cultural assumptions? [1]The book begins by exploring the many reasons for the increased interest in leadership today. The authors offer a plethora
The book of Galatians was written for the simple reason to clear up the truth of the gospel. Shortly after Paul left the church of Galatia, an unknown person or ‘people’ came to the church and led them to believe otherwise. The church of Galatia, being brand new was thrown off by the idea that they were living an immoral life, and immediately changed what they were doing to fit what the people or persons taught this. The thought of having the
I see a tremendous need for leadership development in both of my ministry contexts, even though they are culturally very different. I consider several key concepts from the previous MC506 class to be
Leadership is important in every industry. Leaders must have cognitive abilities, skills and values to lead their followers. An organization must have strong leaders in order to be successful within industry. According to Clawson (2012) “Leadership includes defining a task, setting a strategy, the quality of relationships with followers, designing organizations, and managing change within the organization and in relationships with followers in order to achieve the desired outcomes of the task/ strategy.” Leaders need to be strategic thinkers, able to manage change and ethically grounded to be effective leaders. If leaders are unable to handle these duties, there is a need for a Leadership Development Plan. This paper will discuss the need for a Leadership Development Plan at AT&T Customer Service call center, in addition to providing a Biblical perspective to the development plan.
The book also states the fact that to become successful in the organization, one should have management and leadership skills in balance. As the imbalance between these two can be harmful for the person and for the organization he is working for. Book has also given the way you can analyze your own skills and if you are leader or manager which can be very helpful for anyone to examine by their own.
One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.
I believe you learn about leadership by acting as an example. You should be prepared to do the things you are asking others to do by getting on your hands and knees, if need be, and get your hands dirty. This engraves a picture into the mind of an employee or subordinate to what type of a manager you are. In this paper, I will cover the role a manager plays in an organization describing four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. I will then describe three traits: conceptual, human, and technical, which an individual must possess to become a successful manager within an organization and how they fit in with the four functions.
The relation between leadership and management has for a longtime influenced how organizations are perceived. It has also contributed to maintain some type of confusion in education and within the organization itself.
