Throughout the world, many contemporary issues occur in the world of Politics. Democracy is also involved with several contemporary issues. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary (2014), the word democracy is defined as a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections (Page 215). Like in many political parties, democracy faces several political issues throughout time. Political issues are issues that involves with the government or politics. This includes issues related to party politics, political system, or social, environmental or other issues as determined by the voting public. In Eric Liu …show more content…

The reason why I am talking about abortion is because abortion is an ongoing political issue that is discussed many times and the Democratic Party supports abortion. The Democratic Party strongly and fully supports the Roe v. Wade case and a woman 's right to make their decisions about pregnancy, which includes a safe and legal abortion. Abortion is an exceedingly personal decision between a woman’s family and friends. This makes no place for politicians or government to get in the way. Democracy also recognizes that health care and educational support reduces the number of unexpected pregnancies and thereby, it also reduces the needs for abortions.
However, there are also debates against abortions in the United States of America. Recently, there was a debate about abortion which was led by Scott Walker and Mary Burke. Mary Burke is a democratic candidate for the governor of Wisconsin and she pledged to work to withdraw a law signed by Walker in July 2013 where women must get an ultrasound in order to get an abortion (Jason Stein and Bill Glauber 2014). Burke also said women should be allowed to make health-care decisions by theirselves. In John Geer, Wendy Schiller, and Jeffery Segal’s textbook Gateways to Democracy (2012), it is written that abortion remains a conspicuous issue in national politics with the Supreme Court’s role front and center, and senators had asked many questions
