Public interest lobbies form a linkage element between citizens and governmental elites. In lobbying they articulate what they perceive to be the issue positions of certain sectors of society. Public interest groups also play an important role in facilitating the political participation of their members and related attentive publics. By helping to bring new issues to the table, interest groups influence the shape of political agendas. There are three basic reasons why government officials and their staffers will take the first step in contacting an interest group. First, interest groups may be the target of efforts to enlist them as supporters of a particular policy position. A member of Congress or an agency head may feel that a policy he is pushing is not receiving the backing it should from the private sector. He may try to persuade representatives of interest groups to become more active on behalf of the cause. Second, interest groups are valuable sources of political intelligence. They can provide information concerning the lobbying activities of all other interest groups, pros and cons, on the issue at hand. They can also act as eyes and ears for their friends in government. Third, people in government may come to interest groups for the purpose of obtaining substantive data with regard to an issue. Congressional and agency staffs rarely have time to gather all the information they need on their own. Interest groups can be useful in

In a pluralist democracy like in the United States, interest groups have played a major role throughout the history through highly organized factions and are aimed at different levels of government. Lobbying is one of the tactics of the interest groups to aid their agenda through implementing new laws and regulations. "If you want to have your face in the light, you should have your back in the dark". Similarly, the influences of the interests groups and lobbyists have good and bad effects on the people and the society.
Interest groups connect business and the government because they lobby to congress for the businesses interest. They lobbyist do not work for any party only for the interest of different organizations.
Interest groups have a lot of influence over decision that the government makes and has made. These groups, when formed right, are highly organized and have a definite agenda they are trying to push that is important to them. Interest groups will lobby in congress as well as other levels of government to get new laws and regulations passed.
Interest groups are structured groups which try to influence government to adopt certain policies or measures. The responsibilities of an interest group can be never-ending. One of the main responsibilities of an interest group is giving the underrepresented a chance to speak out on issues they are passionate about. The Rainbow/Push Coalition is an interest group I believed I would be passionate about.

The purpose of an interest group lobbying an executive agency is to attempt to get the agency to see their stance and decide to back up that stance on their behalf. This allows for their positions to be heard more and by a wider audience. In most cases lobbying is used at hearings, while filing friend of the court briefs or when interest groups get in touch with legislators. Interest groups also contribute to campaigns by forming PACs or Super PACs. This allows for interest groups to financially support candidates who are promoting and pushing for policies the group wishes to be enforced. Disruption is the idea that interest groups step in and physically disrupt political activities and policies from being put forth or taken back. This can be through riots, strikes, sit-ins or other forms of public protest. These actions will possibly have a big influence on what policies are seen as important, changed, or put in place. Litigation is the action of courts aiding when an interest group falls or filing amicus curiae. This allows for the court to hear the side of the interest group and possibly make a change in the courts decision that will be in favor of the policies of that interest group.

In my opinion, I think that interest groups have both a positive and negative role in the American political system. Interest groups, as defined in the textbook, are “any non-party organization that engages in political activity”. That is to say, the group does not have to be associated to any political party to be considered an interest group; people who like to go bird watching could be considered an interest group if they go after the Republican party to promote bird rights. The positive side of interest groups is that they aid in the Democratic process by giving those without a voice a chance to speak up about issues that pertain to them. For example, the interest group that caters to Florida’s LGBT Community can give a Transgender person
Interest groups are formed to influence policy within the levels of government by lobbying elected officials to vote for policies favored by the groups. The basic definition of an interest group is a “group of citizens who are organized and attempt to influence legislation so that it reflects their interest or policy goals” (Marion & Oliver, p. 281. 2012). Some groups focus only on a single issue, while others focus on larger areas of public policy. Some interest groups are created and dissolve over a period of a single election, while others have a long standing of influencing elections and public policy choices. Some choose to focus not only on government, but on persuading the public or other non-governmental organizations to support
