The migration crisis has reached a level where Europe must take a stand and must present a viable plan, expressing the future goals the European government believes will help solves this crisis. The International Organization for Migration said, between January and November 2015 more than 750,000 migrants are predicted to arrive in Europe from across the Mediterranean. As a union, Europe is showing the world that they are not a cohesive organization prepared to face the future with respects to the mass migration. The policy concerning migration at the European Union level states that each nation has the right to their own migration policies, while adhering to the European migration institutions, which are not fully established. So far, many of the migrants coming to Europe are settling in Italy and Greece; many hope to be able to reach Germany as their final destination. The important underlining problem is the fact that these migrants are arriving and staying in Italy and Greece. Both Italy and Greece are going through an economic crisis that cannot sustain the migrants that are landing within their borders; they are asking the European Union to give them relief, by imposing quotas to redistribute the migrants to other European nations that are a part of the migration policy. The migrant crisis also brings insecurity to nations such as Italy and Greece because of they are not prepared to deal with the amount of people entering in their borders. Not all European countries
Shawn Pogatchnik shows how important the fact that so many migrants are trying to flee to Germany and other EU countries by using statistics. Pogatchnik states that the EU countries “...has seen more than 332,000 migrants enter so far this year.” He also says that Germany “...is expecting to take in 800,000 migrants in this year.” When people read the article, they realize that what is going on must be bad enough for hundreds of thousands of people to want to flee their own country to enter another European country.
Since spring of 2015, more than one million people have immigrated into Europe causing an immigration crisis. The conflicts in Syria Afghanistan, and Iraq, being the main reason immigrants are fleeing into the European countries. The majority of the immigrants have been arriving in Germany, Greece, Italy and Hungary because they are easily accessible. This influx of immigration into Europe has caused overpopulation.Tensions in the European Union have been rising because of this, in September, the ministers of the European Union voted to relocate 160,000 immigrants that had come into Italy and Greece More than 386,000 immigrants came into Hungary last year, Hungary reacted by closing its border to all. Hungary also relocated 54,000 immigrants to deal with the influx of people. Each country has dealt with the immigration crisis in their own way, as people continue to cross the borders into European countries the lawmakers there pass laws limiting their access. Concern about the sudden, rash and unpredictable changes with the migrants. Shared opinion that EU was not ready and was not adequately prepared for them – the arrival of migrants in Europe should be accepted with a higher degree of tolerance.
The difficult conclusion must be that neither burden-sharing nor diplomacy will end this crisis, that migrants will continue to come in very substantial numbers, and Europe will continue to blunder along, torn between concern about their suffering and fears about a future different from the one we had until now imagined. overcrowded refugee centers and local authorities and police stretched to their
The immigration is not a new concept in the 21th century. Throughout history, people would travel into new places to establish better lives. Immigration involves the movement of people from their home country to a host country, which they are not native, to settle and live. People migrate for many reasons; some of which include economic or political reasons, family reunification, natural disasters, or the desire to change one 's surroundings. Today, the influx of migration became a dilemma in European nations, which ultimately brought so many people from other nations to get settled, especially from war countries. Leaving your country into a new place might be the hardest decision in your life you make, since you have no knowledge about it your new place. For the last few years, thousands of immigrants from the Middle East, South Asia, and Asia are crossing the borders of Europe illegally to look for new places and live in better. They take so much risks in their lives and some even cannot make it through due to the brutality of borders and waters of the seas and oceans. Immigrants get drowned in the sea. A friend of mine who left Afghanistan last year with his two children and wife, his older son sunk in the Mediterranean Sea and died. Is it worth it? However, those even who make to their final destinations have also have so much difficulties to get settled. For example, some European nations do not accept the flow of immigrants because they argue that immigrants will
Women, men, and children from West Africa are migrating to Europe because of the instability and violence that is taking place in Syria, Iraq, and Eritrea. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), “About 710,000 people” are crossing the european border. The vast migration is causing an increase on human trafficking, since traffickers and smugglers are taking advantage of the refugees. The IOM is reaching out to European countries “to spend more resources against sex trafficking,” in order to relocate and reduce the amount of refugees that are being victimize. A plan to resettle 10,000 Syrian refugees in the United States has being criticize because people are concern about the national security of the nation. The GOP presidential candidates are against the resettlement program. According to them the Syrian refugees post a threat to the national security of the United States. While, the Democratic presidential candidates want to increase the number of refugees that are going to be admitted. The refugees crisis has become the worst humanitarian Crisis in the world today. As citizens we have to sympathize with them and provide a
Many African and middle eastern countries try to escape to Europe, In hopes of having a bright future, living in a peaceful environment and working hard in hopes of getting a reasonable amount of income. These Migrants take a very difficult path, so that they can escape the threats in their own countries and hope to have a better chance of survival in different countries and brighter future for themselves and their family. Many of these migrants come
Europe is in a state of turmoil. Immigrants have arrived in Europe by the millions, which has caused this nation to think about their old immigration policies. After World War II, Europe decided to have an open door policy for incoming immigrants from Africa and the Middle East. As time progressed and wars started in the Middle East and Africa, Europe started to take in refugees. One of the qualifications to live as a refugee in an Europe nation is one must apply for asylum. This application process just shows that the people that are escaping from their country, really do need to escape because they are being prosecuted in their own country. However, many people fake the information and are being let into countries that they have the ability
Italy’s requests for assistance with Mare Nostrum have got nowhere. Greece spent €63m in 2013 to prevent illegal immigration; just €3m came from Europe’s border agencies. The Schengen agreement enshrines the responsibility of the littoral states. The Dublin regulation, a building block of Schengen, says that the first EU state where a migrant arrives, his finger prints are stored or an asylum claim is made is responsible for the asylum claim. If a migrant is processed in Greece, then he is Greece’s problem.
There was a time in the 1990s when immigrants flooded to Europe, and European countries relied on these people to help boost their workforce and promote economic growth. As low economic growth rates persisted and recessions occurred and recurred, anti-immigrant notions began to emerge because natural citizens could not find jobs. Today, migrants are flooding to Europe, not so much to find better jobs, but to escape wars and persecution within their home countries. Europe as of late has seen a massive influx of refugees from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, and the Middle East. With the growing number of terror cells and civil unrest in Syria, Syrians, which account for almost 40% of all migrants to Europe in 2015, are seeking refuge in European countries in overwhelming numbers. This influx of people has resulted
This, however, is not only strictly a European problem. Some of the causes of immigration from developing countries have been very different and not just about bankruptcy and the economy. The war in Syria has made over 4 million people flee the country and 7.6 million are internally displaced, living in refugee camps. A lot of those who fled haven’t attempted the very
The immigration crisis reaches hundreds of thousands of people which has revealed that the European Union had not given due regard to the unleashed process, and emergency not just close your eyes, but also resorts to close the borders. The first relates to the initial conditions in their Nations of origin, prompting the displacement. The second crisis is reflected in the insecure media using the victims for the transfer.
The European refugee crisis encompasses the flight of millions of refugees escaping violence in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asian countries. The surging tide of refugees has created a predicament among countries where the movement of people is unrestricted. Seeking asylum, they risk their lives on arduous journeys through Turkey and across the Mediterranean to Greece, from where they enter other countries, the most popular destinations being Germany, Sweden, France, and Italy. As countries receiving these immigrants scramble to provide basic necessities, European governments still struggle to propose a suitable solution for resettlement.
In southern Europe this year alone 103,000 refugees have crossed over the Mediterranean Sea and into Europe. That evens out to about roughly 600 refugees a day. Blowing last year’s total out of the park with a seemly tiny total of 34,000. The dramatic increases of refugees entering Europe have none the less added a very large burden on Europe’s migration troubles. Those 103,000 have risked their lives to be free from their home countries mainly on stolen, flimsy, and makeshift boats. In Greece alone 48,000 refugees have on the shores, the UNHCR is stepping up in Greece and southern Italy as a response to the population increase and the refugees arriving illegally. In late May in one weekend over 6,000 sub-Saharan Africans arrived on Italian shores from fishing boats and rubber dinghies from Libya, bringing the total refugees arriving in Italy to a large sum of 54,000.
Since 2011, Syria has been engaged in a Civil War with protestors against the government and members of the extremist group ISIS, and approximately 7.6 million people have been displaced from their homes (usnews.com 2015). As the conflict destroys more homes and livelihoods each year, an increasing number of civilians have been forced to leave Syria and try to find safety elsewhere. Already a contentious issue, the Syrian refugee crisis has awakened tensions, both economic and social as debate erupts over what to do with the refugees. In response to the crisis, while some countries like Germany have pledged to help the refugees, (New Statesman 2015 1) only 2,340 have been admitted. Clearly, more needs to be done in order to help the refugees. Although there are economic and population concerns to be considered, the humanitarian conflict that faces the refugees and solutions already available are reason enough for Europe to increase the numbers of Syrian refugees allowed in.
