Malala Yousafzai is the youngest person to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. In the book I am Malala the theme of oppression is recurring. The Taliban has oppressed Malala’s village, and I had felt that even though they were oppressed they stood up for what they believed in, even if it meant they’re life was in danger. The first theme that I thought best represented this book was family/friendship. Even though Malala went through this oppression she came through even a stronger activist for women’s education. While she was advocating for girl’s education her family still had her back and even encouraged her to fight for girl’s right to education. The second theme I picked was survival/healing. Malala was shot when she was campaigning for …show more content…
The few concrete houses had been built by families whose sons or fathers had gone south…” which made me feel like her village was a small cozy, beautiful place, but after the Taliban invaded it, its beauty had been destroyed. The theme of family/friendship is very present in Malala’s biography. Her family always have her back and support her for her fight against the Taliban's oppression and governments incompetence. Her father especially encouraged her to fight for what she believed in. Malala and her father have a special bond the way she puts it is “All children are special to their parents, but to my father I was his universe.” ( Yousafzai 246). This quote really shows how close Malala and her father were to each other. Even with the Taliban’s increasing oppression Malala’s family is there for her and supported her through it all. Malala’s village and friends are basically all family. Even when she was shot her village and friends were praying for her. She says “People prayed to God to spare me,and I was spared for a reason- to use my life to helping people..” ( Yousafzai 301). This quote really shows how much her village really cares about her and her family. While Malala was at the hospital she read Alice in Wonderland, and what she wrote about how she interpreted it was really interesting. She says “She(Alice) had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get to where She was going, and I thought if you want to achieve a goal, there will be hurdles in your way, but you
Malala Yousafzai is a women and children activist born in Mingora, Pakistan on July 12th 1997. While growing up, she began advocating for the right to education among girls . Due to her persistence and determination in her activism, on October 9th 2012 Malala was shot on her way home from school by a gunman. She survived the incident and became more passionate towards her fight for education for young females. This incident gave her popularity and in 2013 Malala became nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which she won in 2014. Malala became the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize (Yousafzai 481). Due to the problems that young females had been facing in Pakistan and worldwide, it was essential to understand her education, the oppression by the Taliban, the devotion towards her religion named Islam and activism on the basis of the novel ‘I Am Malala’.
The Taliban hovers around them everywhere, deciding what they say, wear, and where they go. Malala never wanted to live a life like this; she didn’t want to live a life without purpose. She had dreams and aspirations. She wasn’t alive just to breathe; she didn’t know it yet but she was destined to inspire countless girls. She teaches us that if we were given this life, we should make something out of it. Our actions should be in the betterment of a society. She didn’t take a bullet for just for herself. She took it on behalf of the countless girls in the world who want to study but can’t.
I am Malala is a heroic story about a young woman who stood up for what she wanted. This auto-biography is based on a teenager named Malala Yousafzi who stood up for girls education in her home country Pakistan. She also went against the Taliban because she didn't think it was right of what they were doing to her innocent village. When Malala was born very few people came to congratulate her parents because the birth of a girl is seen as a failure of the parents in her culture. She was born and raised in Sway Valley, Northeastern Pakistan. Swat Valley has beautiful scenery which attracts a lot of tourism until the Taliban took over the valley. Malala’s parents Ziauddin and Toor Pekai were very kind humble people from the mountain villages. Malala’s father was a very well educated man who grew up studying poetry and literature. He also started the Khushal School a three years before Malala was born. ”My father started the school three years before I was born, and he was a teacher, accountant, and principal—as well as a janitor, handyman, and chief mechanic.” (Chapter 1, Page 20) In Malala’s culture, girls are refused an education or even simply knowing how to read and write. Her father helped girls by starting the school and making a big influence on girls. Malala is truly a hero throughout this paper you will see how she changed everything.
Malala Yousafzai was a talented and brave young woman who had one goal in life: to get an education and encourage others to do the same. Born in Pakistan, Malala did not grow up with many resources, but she was lucky enough to have a father that shared the same goal as her. At the young age of fifteen, she was shot in the face by the Taliban for standing up for girls’ rights to an education. Although the recovery time was long and hard, the Taliban did not silence her as she continued her campaign. This eventually led her to opening her own school in Yemen and writing the novel I Am Malala. As someone who highly values education and bravery, her story made me interested in learning more about her culture, family, and experiences.
In the article, Malala the Powerful by Kristen Lewis, she described how Malala and other people ruled by the Taliban around 2007, had to follow many harsh rules ordered from the Taliban. Many people perished because of not following the religious rules. Malala stood up to the Taliban while they ruled. She did not listen to the Taliban when they said that school was banned. She courageously stood up to the Taliban but yet still got shot. She crazily survived the shooting and is still alive and going to college today. Though the Taliban created huge challenges for Malala, she survived because she stood up to the Taliban with her great courage, and is getting a better education today.
The article , “Malala the Powerful”, By Kristin Lewis, describes a girl who got hurt for what she stood up to in the world, so her and other went through lots of courage and challenges. That are still happening in this world today. But a lot of what she and others went through is still going on today in Taliban. Malala was a girl who fought for others girls to be in school that affect the world because if the taliban knew the would kill them or hurt them are something like that. when the Taliban came around and stroll the streets she still went to school, but she hid herself and the other children as well. As she was getting on a bus one, day two men walked up and asked for Malala and she got up they shot her. She recovered,
Malala Yousafzai is the youngest person to have ever won the Nobel Peace Prize, one of only 16 women to have won the prize, and the only woman from Pakistan to have won the prize. Malala won that prize for standing up for the social issues of Pakistan and almost getting killed for standing up for what’s right. There are several issues going on in Pakistan but more specifically in the valley of Swat. The social issues going on in Pakistan are gender discrimination, education rights, and extremism.
The article, “Malala the Powerful” by Kristin Lewis, describes the roughness of Malala, a Jewish girl, who like many girl Jews, crumbled in the hands of Taliban. Malala was alive when the Taliban took over Pakistan. She and many other girl jews were kicked out of school and forced to follow all these stitched rules. In 2009, Malala took action and started a blog. She talked on T.V shows about how hard life was like and was standing up to the Taliban. In 2010, the Taliban shot Malala in the face but she and many other Jews still survived. Though she lived in rough and tough challenges, Malala show lots of courage trying to stand up to the Taliban and their powerful government.
The book “I am Malala” tells the story of eleven year old girl that campaigned and fought for woman’s rights and for the Taliban to allow them to go to school. Malala had an extremely tight nit family bond along with very supportive parents. She always had their support especially from her father Ziauddin. I believe that if I had a daughter so young that wanted to make such a big difference in her country I would stand by her one-hundred percent and push her to set out her dreams. That is exactly what her parents did, they always encouraged her to do whatever she put her mind to even now in present day.
The article, “Malala The Powerful”, by Kristen Lewis, describes the hardships of Malala Yousafzai, and her family, who like many other people, stood up to the Taliban and worked hard against them. Malala Yousafzai lived and still lives during the Taliban war. She and her family managed to fight against the Taliban, by going to school when she wasn't supposed to and becoming a blogger that was against the Taliban. On October 9th of 2012, the taliban went after Malala and attempted to assassinate her, for Malala, she held onto life, and she came through and survived. Though she was shot Malala, lived through unspeakable and unimaginable challenges, Malala, her family and their friends showed a tremendous amount of courage trying to take down the Taliban in blogging, protesting and just going to school.
Malala mentions many women in her book those who have been targeted wounded or even killed because they chose to speak out against the corrupt. Malala mentions Malalai the person who she named after, who was killed but inspired troops to fight and Benazir Bhutto who was the first democratically elected leader of Pakistan who inspired women to speak out. Malala are like these icons in many different ways but how are they different? How do the lives of these women parallel each other? How do the fates of Malalai of Maiwand and Benazir Bhutto foreshadow Malala’s fate? These are the questions I will be answering in this essay.
Throughout her experience, Malala has written a novel about everything she’s been through. Also, she has been on many news shows, and given many speeches. Additionally, she started to write a blog to share everything that the Taliban was putting women through with the world. In 2013, Malala became the youngest person to win a nobel peace prize. Near the beginning of her blogging and fighting, the Taliban had heard about her and didn’t like the idea of someone fighting against them. They found her on a school bus one day, and shot her. Malala survived the attack and decided she was going to keep fighting. Malala is currently only 19 years old, so she doesn’t have any children or spouses. Along with being the youngest person to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize, in 2011, she was nominated for the Children’s Peace Prize, but unfortunately lost. Again, because Malala is still so young, she isn’t retired yet, and is still fighting for rights by blogging and telling her story. Finally, for safety reasons, Malala is currently living in England and might never be able to go back home. Because Malala is so young, it is amazing how much she has
Education rights. Black rights. Equality. Those are just a few of the problems we face in America today. There were many themes found throughout I am Malala. One theme I believe was most present in I am Malala is stand up for what you believe in and never give up. There are many ways the book portrayed this. Standing up for one’s rights is a main theme because Malala and her father defended girls’ rights to get an education, pursued with their religion, and protected their rights from the Taliban.
Education might not be the cure of the world’s problem but it’s important to be knowledgeable. It’s important to have an education because without it, it makes a person vulnerable to be guided in the wrong direction. Not everyone believes education is important in life and especially for a woman. Malala Yousafzai tells us her story and her fight for education in her book I am Malala. She tells us about her families struggle for the right of education and not just education in general but education for woman. She was raised in Pakistan and its one the counties in which some people believe a woman should not go to school or have freedom. Education was not as easy for her as other girls around the world. Sometimes people don’t take education as a privileged but as a right, but unfortunately it’s not this case everywhere and it wasn’t the case for Malala. She was also able to see by firsthand how illiteracy can be a danger to a person and how others can take advantage of it.
“The next day he went on a live show on the voice of America and angrily condemned the attacks.” It is very frightening to speak up against something so powerful and evil, example: The Taliban. However, if the whole world were to realize that the power of these hate groups comes from the creation of fear, maybe everyone would be a bit more like Malala’s dad, and not have the fear to speak up for what is right. The author is trying to show us that no matter our circumstances we can all find the courage to fight for what we know is right. Malala is a prime example of courage because her life was put on the line. However, she walked the tightrope over the hate of the Taliban. She reached the tallest building and was able to achieve the greatest of accomplishments. Including being the youngest person ever nominated for the Nobel
