Torquato Tasso

As if their lives were on his words depending.

His threatening eyes
Like flaming torches burned.

Faithful, from day to day,
As Hesperus, that leads the sun his way.

Fierce as flaming fire.

Rage … like boiling liquor in a seething pot.

Reels like a falling cedar.

As winds tall cedars toss on mountains hoar.

Slain and lost,
Like a sweet flower nipp’d with untimely frost.

Her rich locks spread like sunbeams on the wind.

As swift as fiery lightning kindled new.

Unstaid as rolling waves in ocean flood.
