Baltasar del Alcázar (1530–1606)

Alcázar, Baltasar de (äl-kä’thär). A Spanish poet; born at Seville in 1530; died at Ronda, Jan. 15, 1606. His light poems, not very numerous, received flattering notice from Cervantes and others. He had, in his time, many imitators, but few equals. His best-known poem is ‘The Jovial Supper.’ (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
