Sumner, Charles. A distinguished American statesman; born in Boston, Jan. 6, 1811; died in Washington, DC, March 11, 1874. His collected works, including speeches, orations, etc., have been published in a fifteen-volume edition (1870–83). (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
