Fernão Álvares do Oriente (1540–1599)

Oriente, Fernão Álvares do (äl’vä-res dö ö-rē-en-te). A Portuguese poet (1540–99), of the school of Camões. His life-work, ‘Lusitania Transformed,’ is a pastoral romance in the manner of Sannazaro’s ‘Arcadia,’ composed of prose and poetry and containing elegies, sonnets, and idyls of such beauty as to have caused some of them to be ascribed to Camões.
