Smith, Sarah [“Hesba Stretton”]. An English novelist; born at Wellington, Shropshire; died in 1911. She wrote many novels and stories; including: ‘Jessica’s First Prayer’ (1866); ‘The Clives of Burcot’ (1867); ‘Paul’s Courtship’ (1867); ‘Hester Morely’s Promise’ (1868); and ‘Bede’s Charity’ (1882).
