Barrière, Jean François (bä-rē-ãr’). A French historical writer; born in Paris, May 12, 1786; died there, Aug. 22, 1868. His energies were first directed to periodical literature; but he subsequently produced ‘The Court and the City under Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI,’ besides editing a numerous series of memoirs of personages connected with the Grand Monarch.
