Garay, János (gor’oi). A Hungarian dramatist and poet; born in Szegszard, Oct. 10, 1812; died at Budapest, Nov. 5, 1853. His work was inspired by the German drama; as shown in ‘Arbocz,’ his best-known historical composition. The poems ‘The Skirmisher,’ ‘Bosnyák Zsofia,’ and ‘Arpádok,’ and a volume of historical ballads, have received warm praise from the best European critics.
