Kaspar Butz (1825–1885)

Butz, Kaspar (böts). A German-American versifier; born in Hagen, Westphalia, Oct. 23, 1825; died at Des Moines, IA, Oct. 17, 1885. He was a prominent political journalist in his native land in the stirring days of 1848, but was forced to flee to this country. Here he became a noted (Chicago) newspaper man, and produced pleasing verse, collected in ‘A German-American’s Poems’ (1879) and ‘Grandfather Songs’ (1887).
