Pierre Pithou (1539–1596)

Pithou, Pierre (pē-tö’). A notable French jurisconsult and historical writer; born at Troyes, Nov. 1, 1539; died at Nogent-sur-Seine, Nov. 1, 1596. Among his writings are: ‘Memoirs of the Counts of Champagne’ (1572); ‘Reasons why the Bishops of France were able to give absolution to Henry of Bourbon, King of France’ (1593); ‘Comparison of Mosaic and Roman Laws.’
