Propertius (c. 50–c. 16 B.C.)

Propertius, Sextus (prō-per’shius). The great Roman elegiac poet; born at Assisium, about 50 B.C.; died about 16 B.C. His poems consist of four “books”; the subjects are either amatory, or political and social, or historical and antiquarian. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
