Saxo Grammaticus (d. c. 1204)
Saxo Grammaticus. A Danish historian; date of birth not known; died about 1204. His ‘Gesta Danorum’ or ‘Historia Danica’ consists of 16 books, and extends to the year 1185. Much valuable historical material is to be found in the last six books. His surname was given him on account of the correctness and elegance of his Latin, which excited the admiration of Erasmus.
