Decision-making in the workforce is a process of responsibilities used by upper management to implement, enforce rules, regulations, and maintain a successful environment. Decision-making implemented more effectively by making a plan, thinking it through, accepting more than one opinion and determining what is best. However, decision-making often utilized more effectively by opening doors of opportunities for a suggestion, question, discussion, and feedback. Although, more involvement helps improve understanding, utilize behavior skills and present opportunities for better communication. Everyday life consists of decision-making, the right decision may not always be applied, but ensure room for improvement and opportunity. Individuals approached decision-making in many different ways. As stated by (Jones, Graham, & Bateman, 2006) decision making is a procedure used to recognize a problem, weigh the alternatives and evaluate a solution in which, certain situations will require different approaches to become effective.

Throughout the course of Health Information 371, we have looked at various tools that are used or could be used in the field to help design, build, and implement systems. These tools explored concepts that were mostly related to the medical standpoint on how to diagnose patient’s through decision-making techniques. This helps the health professional make an accurate diagnosis based off of evidence and not speculation. Within the Health Information field, as informatics specialists we need to consider all of these techniques when designing the systems, creating policies, and updating the servers. Having knowledge on these tools will assist us when creating technologies, which will give health professionals all the necessary techniques to give the patient the best possible care available. CPOE along with CDS would not only have these limited benefits but could also help improve hospital’s workflow, rapid and accurate plan of care, quality of care, reduce the cost of care along with being compliant on department of health regulations and guidelines. CPOE has reach not only to inpatient but ancillary environment as well making it more efficient for hospital use. Since both the system CDS and CPOE work alongside it make the process of orders rapid, accurate, decreases order confirmation time to zero and better turnaround time for outcome results.

Clinical Decision Support can be defined as “providing clinicians, patients or individuals with knowledge and person-specific or population information, intelligently filtered or presented at appropriate times, to foster better health processes, better individual patient care, and better population health” (Wright, 2008). Like many different aspects of healthcare, clinical decision support has evolved with the creation of new technology. This evolution of clinical decision support in itself has and will continue to impact each aspect of Triple Aim.
