Hernando de Soto was a Spanish explorer and conquistador who led the first European expedition deep into the territory of the modern-day United States. He is the first European documented as having crossed the Mississippi River. Wikipedia

De Soto's North American expedition was a vast undertaking. It ranged throughout the southeastern United States, both searching for gold, reported by various Indian tribes and earlier explorers, and a passage to China or the Pacific coast. De Soto died in 1542 on the banks of the Mississippi River[5] in what is now Guachoya, Arkansas or Ferriday, Louisiana.
Hernando de Soto was born c. 1500 in Jerez de los Caballeros, Spain. In the early 1530s, while on Francisco Pizarro's expedition, de Soto helped conquer Peru. In 1539 he set out for North America, where he discovered the Mississippi River. De Soto died of fever on May 21, 1542, in Ferriday, Louisiana. In his will, de Soto named Luis de Moscoso Alvarado the new leader of the expedition.

Both Juan Ponce de Leon’s birthplace and birthdate are not known for sure. Based on their research, historians believe Ponce de Leon was born in either 1460 or 1474. He is thought to be born in Tierra de Campos. Tierra de Campos is a village in northwestern Spain. He was likely born into a noble family. Noble families sons’ were sent to work for famous nobleman. Working for a nobleman would help further his education to become a knight. First, Ponce de Leon became a page to Pedro Nunez de Guzman. As a page, Juan served meals and went to several events with Guzman and his wife. As a teenager, Juan’s position required more work. Juan became a squire. As a squire, Ponce de Leon cared for Guzman’s armor, and assisted him in battle against the muslims.

Francisco Pizarro was a conquistador born in Trujillo, Spain in about 1471. His father, Gonzalo Pizarro, was an infantry captain and he taught Francisco how to fight at an early age. Francisco Pizarro never learned to read and write but he was full of adventure.
When they returned to Mexico, they had to publicly announce the failure of the expedition. Mendoza was the one to announce about the expedition. There were some large consequences to this failure of an expedition that affected them permanently. Coronado was the main one to face punishments and he faced very large punishments. They were actually charged for their failure to find the “Seven Golden Cities”, but luckily all charges were largely dropped. Coronado was actually removed from his governorship as governor of Nueva Galicia, as one of his punishments. This causing him to move to Mexico City, and he became a city council member for Mexico City in the last decade of his life. Coronado died on September 2, 1554 in Mexico City, Mexico. Even though Francisco Vasquez de Coronado failed to find the Seven Golden Cities of Cibola, he was still very largely known for being one of the first European Travelers to explore the American West. Once it became known that there were gold and other precious metals on this continent, people from Spain began to journey to America in hopes of gaining immense wealth. The Spanish claimed Panama, Mexico, parts of South America, and southern areas of what is now North America and these expeditions were typically led by military figures. As a young man hernan cortes studied law, but decided to seek a fortune in the recently found New World that Christopher Columbus had recently stumbled upon. Cortes ended up first in the island of Santo Domingo the Dominican Republic in 1504 when Cortes was only 19 years of age. Hernan stayed for 11 years but then he took part in the conquest of Cuba, the year was 1511. Cortes was appointed mayor of Santiago de Cuba up until 1518. Hernan Cortes had a taste of power and enjoyed it greatly and because of this his appetite for more conquests was immense. Juan Seguin was born on October 27, 1806 in San Antonio. His parents were Juan Jose Maria Erasmo Seguin (who started one of the first schools) and Maria Josefa Becerra. Although he had little formal schooling, he was encouraged by his father to read and write At a young age Juan started to help his mother run his father's post office. This little bit of caring for his mother and father helped turn him into the person everyone knows today. When he was about 12, Juan got his first horse that he named Reina or princess. Three years later at age 15 he went on his first mission. Then at age 17 he was a congressman for 2 years. This gave him the political help that he needed in the future to become the the Mayor of San Antonio.
In 1497, John Cabot sailed to the Florida peninsula. Sixteen years later, Juan Ponce de Leon of Spain traveled to North America and more specifically, Florida’s east coast. He claimed the land for Spain and named it “La Florida.” Panfilo de Narvaez and Hernando de Soto went on a mission to acquire riches such as silver and gold. Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish conquistador who went on many expeditions to Florida around the late 15th century and early 16th century. Ponce de Leon started his exploration in joining Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas in 1493. They landed in Hispaniola and found a settlement to be destroyed and the sailors to be murdered. Columbus enforced a forced-labor policy and made the Natives rebuild the settlement and look for gold. In this voyage, Ponce de Leon learned many skills and tactics in which he would use in later voyages. In 1508, Ponce de Leon was sent to explore Puerto Rico and look for gold. He settled with 50 other soldiers in what is now San Juan and became the first governor of the eastern part of the country in 1509.
