“I Believe I Can Fly” emphasizes the transcendentalist belief that people should be completely free and break away from society. Throughout the song, Kelly talks about being free. The first stanza of the song says, “I used to think I could not go on. And life was nothing but an awful song. But now I know the meaning of true love” and “I’m leaning on the everlasting arms”. When the singer is living life by reason she says she felt hopeless, however, when she finds the meaning of true love, an emotion, she feels extreme relief from all the pressure he used to have.
