Child of the Bodom once said, “I got the one, the dream of horror! Dreams of blood, dreams of war! Rudest eyes have seen the fright, welcome to the eternal night!” Throughout history, there has been many horrific wars and tragic events that have happened. Most of them have been life changing to the world. The rapid and advance changes of technology and the positive workforce changes for women have caused this world to be a better place. War has greatly affected the human being’s individual itself. The reality and truth of war causes individuals to commit acts of cruelty towards each other, to struggle to keep their faith, and to die emotionally.
During wartime, people develop a sense of cruelty that eventually leads them to be savage, brutal, and commit cruel acts towards each other. A German officer who was in charge of killing Jewish people explained to the server on the train, “They assembled them all, men, women, and children. We murdered them all, all of them” (Eliach 136). People who were apart of the Nazi Party had to kill millions of Jews during World War II. Not only did the soldiers kill Jews, but

Individuals are most affected by war and as time progresses, war influences many cruel acts to occur. This causes others who are innocence to also act in cruelty. Life can never get better during a war so faith and hope begins to slip away and disintegrate. People’s faith starts to turn to the enemy. So many violent events and actions are going on that emotions are no longer present. It is hard to feel sympathy for someone when miserable events happens all the time, such as killing and torture. Seeing someone murder and killed during war does not play an affect on an individual as much anymore. Instead it is like seeing someone die in everyday life. Individuals are no longer the same during war because one’s morals and dignity are no longer there. They can never return to the person they were before
The war brings enormous damages to humanity. People who survive war suffer from psychological problems. In the excerpt from, A Long Way Gone, a boy who managed to stay alive through war suffers from the past memories that are even in his dreams, “I was afraid to fall asleep, but staying awake also brought back painful memories. Memories I sometimes wish I could wash away” (Beah). This quote makes it clear that people who went through war suffer mentally from unwillingly dreaming of war and memories that suddenly come to their heads. The image “In Times of War” also shows that humanity suffers from war. In the cartoon picture, there are people lying
Throughout the latter 1930s and early 1940s, many individuals experienced persecution. As Goldhagen mentioned in his novel, “Social death is a formal status...It is at once a culturally shared concept of the socially dead people and a set of practices towards them” (Goldhagen, 168). In Germany specifically, individuals part of a specific race were deemed to no longer be a human being in the eyes of the “superior race”. The social death of individuals such as Jewish people was obtained through the use of blame for problems faced and then the dehumanization of these individuals. Once the status of social death is reached, it is much easier for people to treat others in a degrading and violent manner. Those facing persecution, such as the Jewish, during World War II, faced immense atrocities. For individuals who were not killed themselves, the vast majority saw their friends and family killed, were stripped away from their homes and identity, were faced with torture, meager living conditions, and immense amounts of labor. On the opposite side, many individuals who took part in performing these atrocities against humanity were cognizant on some level to what they were doing, but were also obstructed
War leads to oppression and leaves negative implications on all people and societies by impacting the poor, women, children, and nations as a whole. "War is a state of violent conflict between one or more groups" (Rasenberger 3). Rasenberger defines war as a state of conflict between one group within itself or several groups in combat with each other, what is not mentioned are the after-effects of war. War itself leads to many civilian and military deaths, an estimated 1.5-3.8 million people died during the Vietnam War and an approximate 500,000 people died in the Iraq war. The biggest tragedy of War is that it always results in fatality, but another key, negative, factor to understand is that after the War many adverse implications arise. Post-war ramifications in the nation fall upon the poor, women, and children, making them weaker and less motivated leading to the downfall of a society. Regardless if a nation wins or is defeated in war they have to deal with consequences of war and find solutions to the impacted people and society. It is essential to understand that there is never a true victor in war because regardless of the outcome, fatality and a fall of morale within society on both sides are inevitable. War has often been the solution to situations that required force or violence, but in recent times this has
A recent study by the Institute for economics and peace found that only 11 out of 162 countries in the world are free from conflict (Independent Digital News and Media, 2016). In “The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong” by Tim O’Brien the impact of war is displayed through the life alternating changes in a young woman named Mary Anne. Over the course of the story Mary Anne goes from innocent, enthusiastic, kind individual to a compulsive, aggressive, and apathetic one. A central theme of “The Song of the Tra Bong” is the powerful physical and mental altering effects of war. My story further demonstrates the theme of how war completely consumes people through changes in their personalities, values, and
In the camps Germans used violence and death threats to keep the Jewish prisoners frightened and submissive. “The night was pitch-black. From time to time, a shot exploded in the darkness. They had orders to shoot anyone who could not sustain the pace. Their fingers on the triggers, and they did not deprive themselves of the pleasure. If one of us stopped for a second, quick shot eliminated the filthy dog.”(Night, 87), the officers didn’t see the Jews as nothing more than inferior. They were viewed to be less and treated like a smelly homeless dog. The prisoners themselves began to act similar to the Germans when they began to view violence as entertainment, a coping mechanism, and pleasure. The inhumane aggression and senseless, cruel violence they were given forced them to be just as inhumane towards their fellow prisoners.
The war had changed people in so many ways, as their former character of being sincere, at peace, and loving was slowly changed to chaotic, indecisive and unhopeful lives. People began to forget who they really were all due to the war, “It
Going along with Inhumanity, people were not treated as humans during WWII. The Nazis felt that the Jewish population was responsible for how bad their country was so they tried to eliminate all of them to make them pay for what they did. “They took off all our hair with clippers, and shaved all the hair off our bodies”(Wiesel 33). The Nazis took away the Jews humanity, and made them not even feel like they were humans beings. It was all the Nazis choice to kill or save a Jew. “eight simple short
The way war can affect something is the division in families. In My Brother Sam Is Dead, Father kicks out Sam because he would want him to go to school than go to war with a chance of death. “Go, Sam. Go.
Several conditions in the Nazi concentration camps and work camps made it very hard for children to survive. The camps were tremendously ruthless. The epidemics that broke out in the camps, including the awful living conditions were very diverse mainly during the years that the camps operated. They were also uniquely contrasting in each different camp. Whereas many other conditions such as, executions, hard labor, etc. had a great effect of death of the children, some conditions were worse than others causing the children to pass away real quick. Medical experiments and living conditions had the greatest effect of death of children in the Nazi work camps during WWII. Not only were the children involuntarily used for medical experiments they were also forced to live in brutal living conditions.
War is cruel. The Vietnam War, which lasted for 21 years from 1954 to 1975, was a horrific and tragic event in human history. The Second World War was as frightening and tragic even though it lasted for only 6 years from 1939 to 1945 comparing with the longer-lasting war in Vietnam. During both wars, thousands of millions of soldiers and civilians had been killed. Especially during the Second World War, numerous innocent people were sent into concentration camps, or some places as internment camps for no specific reasons told. Some of these people came out sound after the war, but others were never heard of again. After both wars, people that were alive experienced not only the physical damages, but also the psychic trauma by seeing the
The Germans were extremely cruel to everyone, in WW2, not just Jews. Simone Palmer was caught up in WW2. The Germans were so cruel that they killed. They bombed Simone’s school, while she was staring at it. They abused and raped, women. They killed children, and just bombed everything.
In the year of World War two, the Nazis were taking over Denmark. Both Pavel and Kristina were Jewish and had to hide from the Nazi, who wanted to take away a Jewish Danish people in Denmark. The Nazis did not like the Jews, so they planned to take them away. They had both wanted freedom from the German Nazi, taking over Denmark. Kristina, a young 11 year girl and Pavel, a young adult were going to be put into a Ghetto with other Jewish citizens. Fortunately they both escaped. Kristina and her family had managed to escaped before the Nazi got them and had escaped to the sewer. Her family had planned to stay there until the War was over. Fortunately, 20 other survivors had come with them. They stayed there for 14 months with little civilization. By the time the War was done, 9 had died from living in the sewer and 11 survived. Pavel had stayed close to the Ghetto in a neighborhood instead, he planned to stay there until the War was over ,too. Eventually he had been caught and was put in a camp, where they worked him to the bone. Kristina and Pavel both want freedom and they both want to escape.
When one thinks of war, the image that comes to mind is of blood and death. Usually at the front of our minds are the soldiers fighting for their country, however we tend to push to the back of our minds the other civilians who suffer. The truth is, both sides suffer from war, especially from wars such as World War II. WWII lasted from 1939-1945 and was a global war. It was marked by the mass murder of many civilians by events such as the Holocaust. The Holocaust occurred when the Nazis, a German force, launched a genocide to kill all Jews, forcing them into death camps where over six million of the innocent civilians were killed in many brutal ways. Yet it was not only the civilians who suffered, many soldiers fighting against the Nazis were killed or tortured for working against them.
Not only is the war gruesome but when the soldiers are not fighting to stay alive they are living in the trenches. The trenches were the locations the soldiers called “home’, the only place they could catch up on sleep and eat. The trench lifestyle wasn’t the best living conditions. Each day the Second Company had to deal with lice, rats, dirt, scarce of food and water. The novel describes exactly what each soldier faced, during the war, telling only the truth. The living conditions were not the only bad aspects of the war. The young men of Second Company did not envision a life after the war. Muller asked the question “What would you do if it were peacetime” to his friends of the Second Company and the only ones with valid answers were the
However with all the destruction and atrocities war brings to the people, sometimes conflict can change the life of individuals to both for better and worse.
