Is abortion immoral?
In my opinion, abortion is not immoral.
Whether a mother wants to get an abortion or not, is up to the individual. Everyone is entitled to the rights of their own body, therefore it is wrong to tell someone what they can and can’t do with it. Pregnancy has a huge effect on the mother’s body alone; it changes every aspect of her life forever. Having a child, especially if it is unplanned, could potentially disrupt her career, social life and many other important parts of everyday life.
If the mother was not prepared or was incapable of raising a child, then that could be harmful to the baby’s upbringing. If the mother was a person who enjoyed taking drugs, drinking or smoking and wouldn’t show any signs of quitting even if they knew they were pregnant and chose to go through the pregnancy, then the baby could be born with serious health problems, or worse. The child could even grow up already addicted to drugs or cigarettes, which could make already existing problems worse or create new problems entirely.
Having access to legal abortions, done by people who are trained specifically to do as such, reduces the risk of complications and injury. 98% of unsafe abortions are performed in developing countries and countries where abortion is illegal; this fact alone increases the mortality rate of mothers.
The main opposing arguments against abortion were that “Life begins at conception”, “foetuses have a right to a future” and “foetuses
We all are created equal, there are certain rights given by God that you and I are not free to ignore. Therefore, the first and most basic right is the right of life. The exercise of our right to liberty and our right to the pursuit of happiness is secondary to respecting the right to life. Our pursuit of happiness must not compromise any other person's right to live. So, the right to life is not some modern anti-abortion slogan. It is the most fundamental assertion of the document upon which this nation was founded.
From 1973 to 2003 around 1 million abortions have been performed in the U.S alone and after the Roe vs. Wade case was found in favor in Roe which has led to a large controversy over whether or not an abortion kills a person. Today I will not argue over which side is right or wrong, but show you the facts and ethics of an abortion, and leave you the listener to choose whether or not to believe and act upon these truths. First the argument over abortion is not about women's right. Many people associate abortion with women's right but this is not the case. The argument for or against abortion lies in whether or not an abortion murders a person. Now with that context set we must now look to see first whether something is being killed and the answer is yes. Any Biomedical scientist will tell you that a unborn babies cell is different from that of her mother and if an unborn baby were part of her mother the cells of the baby would match that of her mother but it has been scientifically proven as a fact that a unborn baby is composed of entirely different cells than her mother. This meaning that the baby is an entirely different organism. Also we know something is being killed because the unborn baby has different cells meaning a entirely different organism is killed during the abortion process. Now we know that a unborn baby is not part of the mother and that something in the least is being killed. Now that it is settled that something is being killed with each
- The overwhelming majority of abortion clinic—88%—experienced at least one form of harassment in 2008. 87% reported picketing, 42% were picketing with patient blocking, and 21% cited incidents of vandalism. And more shockingly, nearly one-fifth of all of the largest abortion facilities reported a bomb threat. (Jones, 2011)
Specific Purpose: I want to argue that abortions is wrong and as humans it is our duty to stop it.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.
Abortion: the controversy-packed topic that can provoke the most vicious altercations between the two opposing sides. The views of abortion divide into two main categories: pro-choice and pro-life. These groups can go at eachother’s throats with no end, constantly throwing new arguments at each other. Many people feel very strongly one way on the topic, and are some individuals too stubborn to consider anything other opinion. The two opposite views seem to boil down to many as either the undeveloped fetus is innocent or the mother has the right to chose what to do with her own body.

The topic of abortion is one of the most controversial topics in and out of politics. There are two main sides that have the most dominant opinions. There is the pro-abortion side that believes that all women should have the right to get an abortion and that the procedure and the pill should be covered by basic medical insurance. Of course there are different variations of this opinion, and some of them are they may believe in abortion but they only believe they should be allowed to get it for a certain amount of time, that it shouldn’t use it as a form of birth
Anti-abortion arguments rely strongly on religious beliefs. These religion-based arguments threaten the vital separation of church and state that we should have in this country. One pro-life argument states that abortion directly contradicts our founding father’s intention for an unalienable right to life, but the fact is that banning abortion contradicts a woman’s right to the pursuit of happiness, and in some cases, even her right to life. In many people’s eyes, the fetus is not yet a human being, but no one can deny that the mother is. It is wrong to take away her rights for the “rights” of an unborn fetus.
The termination of a pregnancy has remained a topic of debate throughout the country for the last few decades. All women must have the access to abortion in order to reach their full potential of freedom and equality and to avoid other medical conflicts. The conception of a child is not always planned and may have occurred from rape or incest in some cases. In that situation the women would want to abort the child because it is a product of a traumatizing experience and can create psychological torment on the mother. In some cases women are not fit for motherhood. They may be too young and not educated which will lead to limited job opportunities, and having a child causes disruption to their lives. Many young women, who become sexually active and become pregnant, are not ready for the responsibility of a child. They may still have their education left or in need of a job. In that case, having the responsibility of a child is unrealistic and difficult. If abortion is not legal, that does not mean that the act of terminating a pregnancy will end. In many cases, there have been women and doctors illegally committing abortion procedures. Many women attempt to terminate the pregnancy on their own when not allowed to due to their own reasons. It is very necessary to give women these rights and it is vital for gender equality. By allowing women to have control over their own body, the women can reach their full potential. Society must be reminded constantly that women are human with the right to freedom and the conscience to make informed decisions, and not just a body carrying a fetus. Its must be the woman's choice to decide what to do with her pregnancy.
Abortion is a huge concern for the women of the United States. But, if one sees the right to a woman's body by the restriction of abortion, the torment to the unwanted child, and the anguish effect it has to a woman, then the concern would be educated to where they know the side effects of abortion.
The squeak of the aged hospital doors getting pushed open as they wheel you into room 10. You’re screaming in pain, you don’t understand what’s going on. The nurses start flooding into the room and the doctor soon arrives and puts on his gloves. He smiles at you and says everything is going to be okay. A few minutes go by and the pain is gone. You ask if you can hold it. The doctor hands you a blanket. As you look down where the baby's face should be, there is nothing.
She’s pregnant, is what I thought as I replayed the conversation that changed everything back in my head. “Sammie are you pregnant?’’ I asked, while we were upstairs in my room, away from the family BBQ. I knew the answer before she could even say it. “Yes, I am.” She whispered as tears streamed down her face. I walked over to her on the bed and wrapped my arms around her. After a minute of her crying, we released each other. “What are you going to do?” I asked her, because in my family, getting pregnant while in high school was and still is the biggest disappointment you could bring to the family. She looked me square in the eye and said, “I will hide it and see to an abortion.”

Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to chose life Abortion is when a mother decides to terminate her pregnancy. Many people have different opinions about this ethical and moral issue. Some people think that abortion is okay, while others believe that it is inhumane and against their moral and/or religious beliefs. (Advance Slide)
